Notes | Thoreau MacDonald (1901-1989), son of J.E.H. Macdonald, was a Canadian illustrator, painter, and designer. He worked primarily in black and white, due to colour blindness, and subjects often included nature or vistas of Canada. MacDonald also established the Woodchuck Press in the late 1930s. Some of his illustrations in various publications are available from UBC Library. This plate, without the originator's name, is featured on the back cover of Robert Stacey's 1997 publication entitled, Canadian Bookplates. References: 1) Murray, Joan.
