NotesClaude Ernest Dolman was an author and editor of many scientific texts. UBC Library has 20 items by Claude Dolman, including the Claude Dolman fonds. From the fonds description: "Born in Porthleven, England, Claude Dolman received his medical education at St. Mary's Medical School and graduated with a Ph.D. from the University of London. He came to Canada in 1931 as a Research Assistant and Clinical Associate with Connaught Laboratories at the University of Toronto. In 1935, he moved to Vancouver to become Director of the Division of Laboratories. Dolman became head of the University of British Columbia's Department of Bacteriology and Preventive Medicine (1936-1951) and then the Department of Bacteriology and Immunology (1951-1965). He also served as acting head of the Department of Nursing and Health (1933-1943) and later as head of the department. Dolman played a significant role in the history of medicine at UBC, beginning with his attempts to establish an Institute of Preventive Medicine in 1936. Following the war, the UBC Board of Governors asked Dolman to conduct a survey of North American medical schools to determine a suitable pattern for development. Dolman was also an active member of the Royal Society of Canada from 1947, and he served as President of Section III from 1965 to 1966 and later as Society President (1969-1970). Inventory available.
