NotesThis bookplate is found in H.W. Fitcham, "Artist and Engravers of British and American Bookplates, " 1897 under "P.I.P. Sherburne". No information can be found on P.I.P. Sherburne, however, taking into account the difficulty of identifying the middle initial due to the font, a search for "P.J.P. Sherburne" uncovers an 1831 obituary in "The Gentleman's Magazine" which notes under deaths in the West Indies in April of that year: "At Berbice, P. J. P. Sherburne, esq. late of the Royals, only son of Joseph S. esq. of Bengal Civil Service." Berbice is a region of Guyana.
