NotesThe Reverend Francis Fortesque Knottesford (1778-1859) was lord of the manor of Alveston. It is said that he was originally christened Francis Fortesque and took the name Knottesford from his relative and predecessor, John Knottesford, as a condition of his inheritance of the estate. The estate included the manor house at Bridgetown, where he lived until his death in 1859.
