NotesKener E. Bond is the father of David E. Bond's (of whom two other bookplates are contained in this collection), and he graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1922. Kener E. Bond served on the battleship USS Texas as chief engineer, and retired as a rear admiral. Though it is not known for how long Bond served on the USS Texas, the USS Texas (BB-35) primarily served the Atlantic Fleet, but also served in the Pacific ; in 1931 she served as the flagship of the United States Fleet and was stationed in San Diego until 1937, when she returned to the east coast as the flagship of the Training Detachment, then flagship of the Atlantic Squadron. The USS Texas also operated during WWII, first as 'neutrality patrol' in 1939, but also became involved in combat operations including Operation Torch (invasion of North Africa), the Normandy landings of June 1944, and later at Iwo Jima starting in February of 1945. The USS Texas was decommissioned April 1948. His son, Dr. David E. Bond is a respected authority on economics and business. Dr. David E. Bond has bookplates associated with his name, at under records: BP MUR CAN P B663a and BP MUR CAN P B663b.
