NotesThe identity of G.H. O. Mayer is unknown, although his bookplate mimics the heraldic style characteristic of many early ex-libris in its depiction of two lions. Interestingly, the artist signature at the bottom appears to have a copyright symbol and initials 'S. Co.' suggesting that the bookplate may be attributed to a particular company rather than an individual.
