NotesGrace Svenningson (born Grace Lamb Freeman) was the daughter of James Cook Freeman, of Chicago. In 1913, she married Sven Svenningson, a noted engineer from Oslo, Norway, who had moved to the United States of America in 1909 and spent a few years living in Pennsylvania and Michigan. The same year in which they were wed, the Svenningsons moved to Montreal, Québec, where Sven eventually became chief engineer of both the Shawinigan Water and Power Company and the Shawinigan Engineering Company, and vice president and chief engineer of the Power Engineering Company. In 1934, during a vacation to the state of Maine with Grace and their older son, Sven unexpectedly passed away. By this time, the family had spent twenty-one years in Montreal. It is unknown why the remains were not brought back to Montreal as expected: Sven was buried at Bailey Island Cemetery in Maine, where Grace's remains were also buried following her death in 1941.
