NotesChapman's Book Store was a Montreal-based booksellers and stationers operating between at least 1897 and 1924, though the exact dates are unknown. The book store appears to have originally operated out of premises at 2407 St. Catherine Street, moving to 513 St. Catherine Street West, near Peel Street, by 1906. Chapman's maintained this location until at least 1910, but by 1913 had moved to 190 Peel Street where it remained until at least 1924. Chapman's appears to have had a robust advertising campaign, placing numerous ads in the 'Montreal Gazette' and the publications of local organizations or groups. In an advertisement in the 1910 'Catalogue of the Chateau de Ramezay Museum and Portrait Gallery, ' Chapman's is said to carry 'Souvenirs, Illustrated Post Cards. Colored Cartoons and Posters. Fine Stationery.' In addition to being a bookseller, proprietor A.T. Chapman was a book printer and publisher, publishing a number of books between 1900 and 1924, including the English language version of 'Maria Chapdelaine: A Romance of French Canada.'
