[Bookplate for Steve Borden by Larry Reynolds] This pictorial bookplate, created using black ink on white paper, portrays two thieves in front of a bookshelf. Above the bookshelf is a pendant reading "Kent" and in the right hand corner is the artist's signature. 22. [Bookplate by Eiichi Hirose] A picture with a red frame of a golden Buddha with halo and numerous arms all outreached. 23. [Bookplate for K. H. Ingalls by Ralph Fletcher Seymour] A portrait bookplate with a multiple black fillet border surrounding the central images used in the bookplate. The bookplate has all 12 images of the zodiac held in small circles surrounding the periphery of the central image. At the top and bottom left and right hand corners of the image are images of vines. Central to the bookplate is the image of a wicker chair held in the bottom left hand corner next to several books sitting on a reading table. The chair is facing a brick fireplace against the far wall above which are the word "BIDE-A-WHILE". In front of the fireplace is a bear skin rug. A highbacked wooden bench with three books on it sits off on the adjacent wall to the left of the image. A similar bench sits to the right of the fireplace. A clock and several other knickknacks sit on the mantelpiece above the fireplace. 24. [Bookplate for B. L. Mitchell by L. S.] Pictorial bookplate illustrating a Scottie dog and a cat sitting on a table at an open window. Below the table is text. 25. [Bookplate for British Columbia Library and Archives] Black ink on white paper. All text in scrolls above and below coat of arms of British Columbia. 26. [Bookplate for Christ Church S.S. Library] Black ink on white paper. Text surrounded by thin border. 27. [Bookplate for Maurie Barrett] Printed in black ink on beige paper, with a glued back. The image is a version of the crest of the Arms of Canada. It shows a crowned lion atop a larger crown, with mouth open and tongue extended. The lion stands firm with his rear right leg forward as if indicating an intent to pounce. This position, with all four paws on the ground and head turned to face the viewer, is known as statant guardant. The lion's tail is flamboyant and resembles the mantling often found on heraldic bookplates. 28. [Bookplate for Vancouver Medical Association] Black ink on cream paper. Simple double border surrounds text and image of a serpent coiled around a staff with laurels at its base. 29. [Bookplate for Winifred Baker] This bookplate, black ink on ivory paper, consists of a number of books standing up right on a flat surface. In front of the standing books is a book left open, and a candle stick with candle alight. From the candle's flame, light radiates out in all directions. Running along the left border are a series of vertical lines of varying widths, and along the right border are a series of ten small symbols. 30. [Bookplate for Caldwell] In black ink. This bookplate consists of an or (gold) escutcheon, containing three sable (black) piles arranged in chief, and four alternating wavy bars of gules (red) and vert (green). Each pile contains a roundlet. Each roundlet has wavy barry of seven pieces, plate (silver roundlet) and hurts (blue roundlet). The crest is a demi-lion rampant grasping a broken scimetar, all proper on a wreath. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the latin motto. 31. [Bookplate for Lionel Damer] In black ink, this bookplate consists of an escutcheon, divided barry of six pieces, nebule, argent (silver) and gules (red), and a bend, engrailed, azure (blue). At the precise middle chief is a crescent, the symbol of the second son. The escutcheon also contains an inescutcheon, divided per cross. The first quadrant, argent, contains an unknown symbol, possibly a garbe, sable (black). The fourth quadrant, also argent, contains two of the same symbol. The second quadrant, divided per fess, or (gold) and azure (blue), contains two swans with wings displayed. The third quadrant is the same, except it contains only a single swan. The crest is an oval frame containing a talbot's head in a crown. Above the crest is floral mantling which extends down both sides of the escutcheon. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the Latin motto. 32. [Bookplate for Maria Anna Grimaldi] This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon, or (gold), charged with three esquire helmets, sable (black), en profile at fess, and a lion passant below. Above the escutcheon is an esquire helmet, above which is a crest of an armoured arm embowed clutching a curtana, or a pointless sword of mercy. The escutcheon is surrounded by elaborate mantling, and the entire crest by a stylized border. Below the heraldic image is the Latin text. 33. [Bookplate for Loren Griswold DuBois] In black ink. Per blazon sinister, or (gold) and argent (silver). A lion rampant, sable (black), queue fourche, grasping a scimetar, azure (blue). A tower turreted, with banners sinister on either side, azure. Upon a straight crest wreath is a demi-lion, sable with queue fourche, grasping a scimetar, azure. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the French motto. 34. [Bookplate for Godfrey G. Roundell Greene by W. and A. Mussett - The Heraldic Studio] In brown ink, escutcheon divided quarterly. The first and fourth quadrants divided per pale, or (gold) and azure (blue), three stags trippant, two over one, all counter changed. The second and third quadrants, or, with a fess, gules (red) between three olive branches, two over one. Atop the escutcheon is a helmet with mantling, below a demi-dragon crest, azure, gorged, argent (silver). 35. [Bookplate for James Maitland Hunt] In black ink, this bookplate contains an escutcheon, argent (silver), charged with two dogs courant, and a chief, argent, with fox cabossed, between two hunting horns. Above, a helmet with mantling, and a crest of a lion's head erased, gorged. All set within a floral architectural border. 36. [Bookplate for James Hatch] In black ink, an escutcheon, gules (red), charged with two lions passant guardant, with their hind legs couped. Over the lions at the fess point is an inescutcheon parted per pale, ermine (white powdered fur with black tufts) and ermines (field sable fur, powdering argent), a chevron sable (black) and argent (silver) with four lozenges ermine and ermines, between three fleur-de-lis argent, two over one. The crest is a lion cabossed on a straight wreath. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the Latin motto. 37. [Bookplate for George T. Turner by H. L. Peckmore] This philatelic bookplate consists of images of eight stamps. Six of the stamps (one elongated stamp in brown ink, two stamps in blue ink, and 3 in red ink) encircle a large circular stamp printed in black ink. At the lower right corner of the bookplate is the eighth stamp, printed in brown ink. Those stamps which are identifiable include: The stamp containing a hand of cards represents a stamp from the New York Consolidated Card Co., in use from 1876 to 1883 ; the stamp of a healthy man assualting a skeleton represents Sc. RS56, from 1880 for William E. Clarke - Hunt's Remedy ; the stamp containing a battleship represents a an issue from the Battleship Series of1898 ; and the stamp containing a bi-plane in the lower right corner represents the 1918 First Airmail Series - 6 Cents Curtiss Jenny. The remaining stamps have not been exactly identified. A circular seal at the lower left corner of the bookplate contains the originator's name and date ; and at the middle base is a rectangular box containing an identification of the library and an image of a set of books between book-ends. To the right can be found the artist's mark, "H. L. Peckmore". H. L. Peckmore & Son is a US printer of philatelic materials. 38. [Bookplate for Garnet Joseph Wolseley by Charles William Sherborn] This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon, argent (silver), charged with a talbot passant, gules (red), and a mullet above at centre chief. The escutcheon is supported by a wolf, rampant clutching swords at dexter and sinister. The escutcheon is set within a garter-like setting, from which various military medals hang. Above the escutcheon is a viscount coronet, sans the cap, with a grated helmet at three-quarters, further delineating the rank of viscount. Upon the helmet rests a ducal coronet, which is charged with a wolf's head. Behind the wolf is a small banner with first Latin motto within (the family motto of Wolseley of Wolseley, Co. Stafford, Barts.), and below the supporters and escutcheon is a second banner, with second Latin motto within (the family motto of Wolseley of Mount Wolseley, Co. Carlow, Barts.), along with a larger banner with bookplate owner's name and title. Elaborate mantling radiates from the helmet, and the entire bookplate is encased in a ribbed border. 39. [Bookplate for Vincent Stuckey] In black in, this bookplate consists of and escutcheon divided per pale. The dexter half is divided per bend sinister, or (gold), azure (blue) and dove-tailed, and charged with a lion, rampant and ermine with a tail queue fourché. At the dexter chief of the half is an azure canton charged with a mascle, or. The sinister half of the escutcheon is identical to the dexter, except that at it also contains a crescent at middle chief. The escutcheon is crested by a straight crest wreath and a demi-lion with tail queue fourché, ermine and charged with a mascle, azure. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the Latin motto. 40. [Bookplate for Philip Southcote] In black ink, this bookplate consists of an elaborately bordered escutcheon, argent (silver), charged with a chevron, argent, three ducks, two over one and dexter, and an annulet at the precise middle chief. The annulet symbolizes the fifth son. The escutcheon is crested by a dexter closed helmet. Atop the helmet is a curved wreath and another duck, dexter.
