[Bookplate for Annie M. Angus by Lionel Haweis] A combination of textual and pictorial bookplate created with black ink on ivory paper. Image consists of a stained glass background framed (from inside out) in a thin light frame, dark medium frame, and a light ribbon frame. A candlestick with a large lit candle is overlaid with a large stylised letter A. Midway on the candlestick rests an open book, which overlays the monogrammed A. On the left page of the book is a stylised letter A and on the right page of the book is the letter M. At the bottom of the image is a shelf of books. 62. [Bookplate for Antony F. C. Tétrault] Printed in black ink on white paper, the bookplate shows an open book in front of a lit, winged torch. Below the book appear the words 'EX LIBRIS' below which sits a black dividing line approximately 1.2 CM long. Below the line appears the word 'DATE:' below which appears a dotted line for the addition of a hand-written date. Below the dotted line appears the name of the owner, 'Antony F. C. Tétrault.'. 63. [Bookplate for Arnold William Thomas] In black ink on white paper. Shield: Or (gold), on a fesse dancette sable (black), coticed gules (red), between three birds sable perched, addorsed and elevated. Crest: a bird sable perched, addorsed and elevated, atop an open book argent (silver) and a crest wreath, argent and vert (green) with mantling. 64. [Bookplate for Arthur Coburn by L. J. R.] The image is of a man standing between two deciduous trees. The man has black hair and is wearing antique garments from the Italian Renaissance and white tights. He is also reading a large black book and has a small black leather belt and pouch. The whole image is surrounded by a double filleted black border. 65. [Bookplate for Arthur Lowndes] Black ink on white paper. The bookplate features an oval shape with a thin, pale black border. At the top of the bookplate is a rounded section with a base that goes down a point towards the middle of the bookplate. The image depicts a procession of men entering what appears to be a brick church. The man at the front of the procession is carrying a cross. There is foliage growing on the church exterior. The men are entering an arched doorway and there are windows above and to the right of the doorway. To the right of a procession is a small metal fence with a brick pillar, behind which is a tall, leafy tree. Other trees are silhouetted in black on the far horizon. The base of the image is decorated with leaves and flowers with many petals. Below, the background is a speckled grey wall and there are two crests, one of the left and one on the right. On the left, the crest features a tall leafy tree on a crest-wreath. To the right of the tree is an argent shield charged with three sable fleurs-de-lis, two over one. At the base of the tree trunk, a ribbon billows out to the right with text printed in capitalized, black, sans serif font. The shield is argent with a bend. The bend has a border of two thin sable lines and is charged with three argent leaves. Below the shield, the mottos is printed on a curling ribbon in capitalized, black, sans serif font. On the right, the crest features a sable erased dragon’s head floating above a crest-wreath. The shield is all argent with a lozengy field. There is an argent canton in the upper left corner of the shield charged with a smaller version of the sable erased dragon’s head from the crest. Below the shield, the motto is printed on a curling ribbon in capitalized, black, sans serif font. Below the crests is a large fireplace. The mantle is covered with books. There is a lamp on the left side of the mantle and a vase filled with plants on the right side of the mantle. Alongside the fireplace, books are stacked on shelves on the left and right-hand side. The mantle itself is decorated with simple vertical black lines. There is a simple iron grate in front of a roaring wood fire. On the left and right hand side of the fireplace itself are square shaped decorative features. There are also fireplace implements on either side of the fireplace. On the floor in front of the fire are a dog and cat. The dog is black and white and is lying down on the left side of the bookplate. The cat is also black and white and is sitting on the right side of the bookplate. Below the cat and dog, the bottom portion of the bookplate features a dense floral decoration. On top of the decoration is a banner with curling ends upon which the bookplate owner’s name is printed in capitalized, serif, black font. 66. [Bookplate for Arthur Phelips Hoskyns] In black ink, this bookplate contains a crest with dexter rooster's head, erased or (gold), comb and wattle gules (red), and three roundlets pellet (black) on neck. 67. [Bookplate for Arthur Richard Springett] In black ink on white paper, this bookplate consists of a shield or escutcheon Gules (red) party per fess wavy with three crescents, two over one, Argent (silver). The closed, barred helm in profile toward the dexter half bears a crest of a displayed eagle upon a nowed snake in a figure eight and a straight wreath. The helm is surrounded by mantling. Below the escutcheon, a banner bears the motto 'MEMOR ET FIDELIS' [Latin: Mindful and Faithful]. 68. [Bookplate for Augustus Langdon] This heraldic bookplate is printed on medium weight green paper and consists of a straight wreath charged with a cubit arm of a beast clutching a battle axe. Around the crest is a garter, with latin motto within. 69. [Bookplate for Aylwin Library] In blue ink. An oval containing the text with an outer scalloped edge. 70. [Bookplate for B. E. Hutchinson] Black ink on white paper. The bookplate has two sections. The first section has thick borders on the left and right with white outlines. The top border is like a shelf with a slightly shorter, darker section below a longer, paler section. Within the frame is a picture of a house built on the shore of a river. The river is foregrounded at the bottom of the frame. The cliff is rocky with a few trees on it. The house is large and has a brick chimney on the right side. Behind the house are several taller trees. Below that image is a shelf-like structure. The top and bottom shelves are supported by Grecian-style columns. A row of books is shelved in between the two columns. The bookplate owner’s name is printed in black, capitalized, serif font. Each letter is printed on a spine of a book so the name is off kilter when the books are slanted. In front of the shelved books is an open book propped up on a closed book. 71. [Bookplate for B. Hallé by L. P.] Black ink on white paper. Thin, double-lined black border with rounded corners surrounds the bookplate. The background is filled in with vertical thin black stripes. At the top of the bookplate is printed capitalized sans-serif block text filled with horizontal black stripes. Some of the text is obscured by the top of a feather quill, which extends from the top right corner down to the bottom left corner. On top of the center of the quill is an open scroll with the top and bottom ends still rolled. The bookplate creator’s initials are printed in black sans-serif font on the curl of the paper at the top of the scroll. Cursive sentence case black font is printed on the scroll. The bottom of the scroll just grazes the bookplate author’s name, which is printed in the same large sans-serif block font with the horizontal stripes that is used for the text at the top of the bookplate. 72. [Bookplate for Barbara Joyce Chandler] In dark blue ink on light blue paper. Primary bookplate design consists of a ship crested upon waves, with three figures within. The figures are young girls, two reading books and the other holding a book. Beneath the waves is bookplate text, with small illustrations of a castle, knight and fish. 73. [Bookplate for Baron de Hirsch Institute and Hebrew Benevolent Society] All printed markings in blue ink, all manuscript notes in black ink. Thin lines form a vertical rectangle with three vertically-stacked cells. The top cell contains the name of the library. The middle cell contains the seal of the institute: two concentric rings with the name and dates of the institute surrounding the inner circle, which contains a Star of David surrounding some Hebrew text. The seal has been inverted, so that it appears as white markings in a blue square. The bottom cell contains a space for presentation notes. In the last cell and above the outermost frame are manuscript notes. 74. [Bookplate for Baron de Hirsch Institute and Hebrew Benevolent Society] All printed markings in blue ink and all manuscript notes in black ink. Thin lines form a vertical rectangle with three vertically-stacked cells. The top cell contains the name of the library. The middle cell contains the seal of the institute: two concentric rings with the name and dates of the institute surrounding the inner circle, which contains a Star of David surrounding some Hebrew text. The bottom cell contains a space for presentation notes. In the last cell and above the outermost frame are manuscript notes. 75. [Bookplate for Baron de Hirsch Institute and Hebrew Benevolent Society] This bookplate is in two parts: One to show ownership by the library, the other to show who made the presentation of the book to the library. 1) In black ink on white or cream paper. The bookplate consists of lines for recording location information, the seal of the institute [two concentric rings with the name and dates of the institute surrounding the inner circle, which contains a Star of David surrounding some Hebrew text], and other lines for noting the number and receipt date of the book surrounding the library name. 2) In black ink on white or cream paper, the bookplate consists of a thin border surrounding black text. 76. [Bookplate for Basil Thomas Woodd by Benjamin Warwick] In black ink. This bookplate consists of an escutcheon, parted per pale. The first pale is parted per quarter. Quarters one and four, gules (red), are charged with three demi-Hercules, two over one. Quarters two and three, sable (black), are charged with gryphons rampant, segreant. The second pale is parted per quarter. Quarters one and four, or (gold), charged with a lion rampant, sable, on a chief, gules, in the middle part a fillet, dovetailed, argent (silver). Quarters two and three, azure (blue), are charged with a fleur-de-lis. The escutcheon is set upon a backdrop of concentric circles. The inner circle is decorated with vine-like patterns. Within the outer circle, the originator's Latin motto "non nobis" appears. Below the concentric circles, the creator's signature and address, Benjn. Warwick 124 Regent Street appear. Above the circle is a peer helmet, surrounded by vegetative mantling, and atop the helmet is a straight wreath charged with a demi-figure of Hercules. (Bernard Burke considers the Hercules figures to be woodmen holding a club over their right shoulders or savages, depending upon the source consulted). 77. [Bookplate for Basil Woodd Smith] In black ink, this bookplate consists of an ovular garter as bordure around the originator's name. The Latin motto is present on the garter. 78. [Bookplate for Beatrice Eleanor Paget by T&H Sc. and A. S.] This pictorial bookplate, created using brown ink on white paper, portrays Wilton House (Wilton, England) built during the 17th century and the seat of the Earl of Pembroke. It is believed that Sir Philip Sidney wrote Arcadia at Wilton House. The picture is framed with vertical columns and garlands. The creator of the bookplate is listed as [T & H / Sc. A.S.]. 79. [Bookplate for Benjamin Gott] In black ink. Escutcheon inside a garter on which is the Latin motto. Inescutcheon parted per bend, argent [white], charged with two roses on either side of a lion, passant ; coticed, argent, and charged with three tufts of ermine each, sable [black].Two layer bordure, countercharged, argent and sable. Above the escutcheon is a curved crest wreath on which is a demi-gryphon, displayed. 80. [Bookplate for Berenice Skinner by Bank B.
