41. [Bookplate for Henry Torre] [Bookplate for Henry Torre] In black ink. This bookplate consists of an escutcheon which is slightly askew, being tilted from the central vertical axis of the image. The escutcheon is parted per fess. In dexter chief sable (black), charged with a crescent above and a tower below, a bordure vair. In middle chief, azure (blue), embattled and counter-embattled, argent, with three sable roundlets. Above the partition charged with two stags proper tripping, and below with one stag proper, tripping. In sinister chief, argent, two bars, gules (red), in canton gules, charged with cross Moline, or (gold). In dexter base, barry of six pieces, or and azure, in canton, argent, charged with a chaplet. In middle base, sable (black), lion rampant. In sinister base, argent, sable with three lozenges, gules above, and four below. The rococo vegetative mantling above the escutcheon finishes on either side with a tassel and includes, at its center, a straight wreath charged with a gryphon passant situated atop a peer helmet. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the originator's Latin motto, with his name printed below.

[Bookplate for Castle-Freke Library by Griffiths and Weigall] [Bookplate for Castle-Freke Library by Griffiths and Weigall] This bookplate consists of an escutcheon divided per pale, with the dexter half divided into six, each with unique charges, and the sinister half, gules (red), charged with a simple fess or (gold). The dexter half is charged with three cross crosslet fitched, two over one. The escutcheon is supported by two lions, rampand reguardant. Above the escutcheon are two crests, both straight wreaths charged with an ox's head couped and a lion rampant reguardant holding another beast's head. Above the crests is a baron coronet. Below the escutcheon is a banner, with Latin motto within. Bookplate is cut to border, which has blunted corners.
43. [Bookplate for John Eardley Wilmot] [Bookplate for John Eardley Wilmot] In black ink. A marshalling of 12, this bookplate incorporates several notable charges, including two sets of eagle heads, erased, a leg erased, three garbes, a stag salient with hounds in pursuit, a scythe, three bugle-horns, three maiden's busts, three crosses-crosslet, three mullets and a lion rampant. The escutcheon is surrounded by an ornate, foliage border in the Chippendale style. It is crowned with a peer helmet, set upon a vegetative backdrop. The mantling supports two straight wreathes, charged with a demi-eagle, holding an escalop in its beak (dexter) and a stag courant (sinister). Among the many heraldic armorials depicted, this bookplate includes several identifiable familial crests. The originator's descendants, include, from dexter chief to sinister base, the Wilmot family in armorial one, the Eardley family in armorial three and the Marrow family in armorial seven. The Wilmot family armorial displays a sable (black) background parted per fess, or (gold), with three escalops on the fess, situated between three eagle heads, erased, two over one. The Eardley family armorial is argent (silver), with a chevron, azure (blue), charged with three garbes (sheaves of corn) and in canton gules (red) a fret, or. The Marrow family armorial is azure, parted per fess, or, engrailed, situated between three maiden's busts, two over one.
44. [Bookplate for Edward Murphy] [Bookplate for Edward Murphy] Blazon is divided per quarter and per fess. Dexter chief and sinister base show a lion rampant on argent (silver) background. Sinister chief and dexter base show a lion rampant on gules (red). Fess shows three garbs over sable (black) background. Above the blazon is a straight wreath, charged with a lion rampant leaning on a garb. The motto is on a scroll below the blazon.
45. [Bookplate for J. W. Dunbar Moodie] [Bookplate for J. W. Dunbar Moodie] Escutcheon divided per quarterly. Dexter chief and sinister base display three ships in full sail on azure (blue), below a tower over background gules (red). Sinister chief and dexter base display three arrow heads, argent (silver) on an azure base, with a hunting horn above a chevron, ermine. Above the escutcheon is a vizored helm with a naval coronet ; above that is a lion, passant guardant, holding a flag. The motto is inscribed in a scroll above the lion.
46. [Bookplate for James Fielding Sweeny] [Bookplate for James Fielding Sweeny] At the top center of the bookplate is a mitre with a crosier on the left side and a banner on the right side. Below that is a crest with argent (silver) background, divided by per pale ; on the sinister side, a mitre and key are crossed, with a coronet, two books, and a dove, holding an olive branch. On the dexter side, two battle axes crossed above two boars, rampant, counterpassant. Beneath that is another crest, divided per pale. The sinister side has an argent background and two battle axes, crossed, above two boars, rampant, counterpassant. On the dexter side, is a lion, rampant. At the base of the bookplate is an alley of columns.
47. [Bookplate for L. M. Stauffer by Stanley Harrod] [Bookplate for L. M. Stauffer by Stanley Harrod] In black ink on white paper, this bookplate consists of a shield or escutcheon Argent (silver). On dexter side, a twelve-point etoile. On sinister side, a dexter arm holding a cup. A trefoil Argent protrudes from the middle base of the escutcheon. The front facing, barred helm bears the crest of a bearded man from the waist up holding a cup in his right hand. The helm is surrounded by mantling. Below the escutcheon, a banner bears the text 'S H / L. M. Stauffer / 1917'.
48. [Bookplate for Robert Smart] [Bookplate for Robert Smart] An armorial bookplate printed in black ink on white paper. A bird displayed, wings inverted, couped with thistle in beak, with a crest wreath, argent and vert (silver and green). Beneath that is a shield, party per pale, erminois and argent. The dexter side, erminois, per chevron azure (blue) with three chess rooks, gules (red). The dexter side, argent, per fess, gules, with two diamonds, sable (black).
49. [Bookplate for Seeli Armitage-Stanley and Earl Spencer] [Bookplate for Seeli Armitage-Stanley and Earl Spencer] In black ink on white paper, this heraldic bookplate consists of an Escutcheon quartered per cross and incorporates aspects of both the Armitage and the Stanley family crests. The dexter chief and sinister base sections are drawn from the Stanley crest and contain an azure (blue) garter, which holds three stag's head caboshed, on argent (silver). The sinister chief and dexter base quarters, taken from the Armitage crest, are gules (red) with three crosslets argent, two in chief and one in base, and a lion's head in fess. The helm consists of two helmets, to signify the incorporation of the two families, and is surrounded by mantling. Above the helm there is a small banner bearing the Armitage family motto, 'semper paratus.' Below the Escutcheon is another banner bearing the motto of the Stanley family, 'sans changer.'.
50. [Bookplate for Waters by Adams] [Bookplate for Waters by Adams] In black ink on white paper, an Escutcheon quartered per cross. The dexter chief and sinister base sections each consist of an azure (blue) saltier on argent (silver) ; the sinister chief and dexter base quarters are composed of a saltier argent on azure. The crest is a demi-talbot rampant, an arrow in its mouth, upon a wreath. Below the Escutcheon is a banner bearing the motto, 'TOUJOURS FIDELE.'.
