[Bookplate by G. P. V. Akrigg] Created using black ink on white paper (glue painted on back). The image is of a desk facing a window with two panes (each divided into eight sections) opening onto a view of an inlet and three mountains. A totem pole is behind the sinister pane. Drawn curtains are on both the sinister and dexter sides of the window. Above the window is a ribbon inscribed with "ALL LEARNING BUT AN ART TO LIVE WELL." On the desk, from left to right, is a painter's palette with two paint brushes, an open book, a ruler, ink well, fountain pen, pencils, card catalogue drawer, index card, small closed book, and a bust of Shakespeare. Below the bust are inscribed the initials "G.P.V.A." 2. [Bookplate for Henry Forbes Angus by Jack Macdonald] An art nouveau, pictorial bookplate using black ink on ivory paper. In the background is a sun with four series of rays alternating black and white. In front of the sun is a left hand holding a quarter-bound book with a floral statue on the cover (consisting of a circle of leaves encircling three white flowers with black centres, which are on top of a trunk). At both the dexter and sinister corners are black squares ; in the dexter square are the initials J / M. 3. [Bookplate for Aemila Mailiake by F. M.] This pictorial bookplate (blank ink on white paper) portrays a displayed [wings expanded and legs spread] eagle with tongue protruding ; on its chest is an argent shield with "M" on it. Below the eagle is a bushel of wheat, to the right and left of which is "F" "M" [the artist's initials]. Flowers blossom from the upper right and left corners. 4. [Bookplate for John Allen Brown by C. Bird] The bookplate portrays a prehistoric scene shown from the perspective of a fur-clad man and woman looking from inside a cave towards a primitive wilderness scene (with stags and a mammoth). The image is framed by an assortment of artifacts, such as vases, swords, axe heads, flints, and other weapons. At the right bottom of the frame is a dagger with a flag inscribed with the initials "S.P.Q.R." an acronym for the Latin phrase "Senatus Populusque Romanus" ("The Senate and Roman People"). Below the picture is an open book on the left side of which is a shield and on the right side the bookplate text. The shield is blue with a gold chevron and three clams. At the top of the shield is mantling and closed helmet signifying esquire or gentleman. On the left side of the shield is a banner reading: "MENTE ET MALLEO." 5. [Bookplate for Charles N. Hood, Mary K. Hood, and Dorothy Hood by A. H. N.] Pictorial bookplate. Within an elaborate floral border is a square divided into both text and an image of a fireplace and bookshelf. At the bottom of the frame is face, below which is the artist's initials and date. 6. [Bookplate for Ladislaus Kardos] Pictorial bookplate. The initials LK are portrayed in red and are within a series of three diamonds of varying shades of gray. 7. [Bookplate for Douglas Loney by Frits Jacobsen] Medieval town square scene with three musicians with Medieval instruments (violin, hurdy-gurdy, and bagpipe) with shoppers and a dancer in the background. The artists' initials (FJ) are written on a building in the background and the artist's full name is in the bottom right corner. 8. [Bookplate for A. Merritt] Textual bookplate. The initials A.M. are surrounded by a decorative border. 9. [Bookplate for J. K. S.] This bookplate is executed with black ink on white paper. Inscribed are the words: Ex Libris over the initials J. K. S. 10. [Bookplate for Emil Eerme and A. Lavdovsky by S. Svab] In black and yellow ink, abstract image of what look like hills or waves. The letter 'L' in the text is inverted, and following a yellow dot there are two 'E's (initials of Emil Eerme) turned on their side, thus resembling two 'M's. 11. [Bookplate for Michael B. Kunze] Black ink on tan paper. Shield of Cercle Francais is surrounded by a double border with heavy mantling. Harvard's motto is at the top of the shield in three open books. Bottom half of the shield bear the initials of the Cercle Francais. Shield rests above the main text. 12. [Bookplate for Michael B. Kunze] Greenish grey and black ink on white paper. Text at top. Initials are white on the coloured background. A line of a musical score appears at the bottom. Contributors include E. B. 13. [Bookplate for Karl Heinz Orbach and Michael B. Kunze by F. W.] Brown ink on yellow paper. Nude woman with a cup in her left hand stands on top of a skull which rests on a book. Initials in the background. There is a flower watermark in the paper. 14. [Bookplate for Hart House Library by J. E. H. MacDonald] Brown ink on tan paper. Plate divided into three sections. At the top, the University of Toronto shield sits to the left of the text. In the middle is a picture of Hart House as seen from above. At the bottom is the name of the donor. 15. [Bookplate for Dezsgyessy Bottlik, Margit Bottlik, and J. E. Horvath] Black ink on light grey inked background. A woman looks at rose that she holds on her right hand. She is wearing a long dress with a black bodice and bouffant white sleeves. The skirt has a flower pattern and the underskirt is white with a bottom ruffle. She sits on a sofa covered with big cushions with different patterns. One of the cushions comes out of the image frame. There is a window behind the figure with plant on the sill. The text boxes above and below the image are adorned with garlands. The artist seal with the initials RS is on the lower left corner. 16. [Bookplate for Margarethe Schwarzwald and J. E. Horvath] This beautiful bookplate in black ink on thin brown paper presents us with a view of a village and a hill top castle through an opening in the trees. In the foreground is a stack of books, with one book open facing the observer, and a vase filled with flowers. 17. [Bookplate for Edmund F. Bourke by T. Welch] This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon quartered per cross. The dexter chief and sinister base sections contain a gules (red) cross on an or (gold) background. At the dexter chief of each cross is a lion rampant. The dexter base and sinister chief sections are each divided per pale, with an argent (silver) dexter side and a gules (red) sinister side. In the middle of these two sections is a lion rampant surrounded by three fleur-de-lis, two over one. Sitting atop the shield on a curved crest wreath is a cat guardant with leash. Below the shield is a banner containing the Latin motto. 18. [Bookplate for Cheswardine] In black ink, this bookplate consists of stylized initials in a symbol (possibly the letters 'D,' 'M,' and 'H'), surrounded by a border of stocks of wheat. At the base of the border is a banner with English motto within. 19. [Bookplate for Barbara Joyce Chandler] In dark blue ink on light blue paper. Primary bookplate design consists of a ship crested upon waves, with three figures within. The figures are young girls, two reading books and the other holding a book. Beneath the waves is bookplate text, with small illustrations of a castle, knight and fish. 20.
