[Bookplate for J. Hunt Stanford] An armorial bookplate printed in black ink on white paper. A buck couped argent (silver) with antlers or (gold) gorged gules (red) with a crest wreath, argent and azure (silver and blue), sits on a visored helm facing dextor with argent mantling. The shield: argent three bars azure, and in the dextor canton azure an arm or clenched with sword. The motto, 'Labore et honore' hangs below. 102. [Bookplate for Paul Hahn by J. M.] Black and blue ink on cream paper. The rectangular border consists of three black lines of decreasing thickness towards the center. In the top right corner is a small butterfly with outspread wings with some decoration. Below the butterfly is text in stylized, capitalized, black serif font. The bookplate owner’s name is printed below in slightly different stylized font in a larger size. Underneath the owner’s name is a larger butterfly with more elaborate outstretched wings. The text forms a single column in the left-hand side of the bookplate. To the right of the text is a bookshelf that appears to extend down to the bottom of the bookplate. Books are stacked in various ways on the shelf, spines facing out. In front of the bookshelf is a cello. The base of the cello sits in the bottom center of the bookplate and the neck extends up towards the top right-hand corner. At the top of the cello sits a butterfly, less elaborate than the others, that has been coloured in with blue ink. To the right of the cello is a tall object extending up along the bookshelf. A section of papers, potentially sheet music, in a folder in the bottom right corner. In the bottom left corner, the bookplate creator’s initials are printed in capitalized, black, serif font surrounded by a thin black border. 103. [Bookplate for Robert Hall and William Phillips Barrett by William Phillips Barrett] Printed in black ink on cream colored paper. The interior of a private library or study room is depicted. The right-hand side of the room is lined with a wall of books, which is topped with several carved busts. In the centre of the room, a large reading table holds several books and is surrounded by three chairs – an upholstered armchair on the left and two wooden chairs on the right. The books are heavy, bound manuscripts and one is open to display an illuminated frontispiece. In the background, a large bay window looks to a building with a spire that is surrounded by shrubbery. 104. [Bookplate for Edward Loveden] This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon, gules (red), with a bend, cottised vert (green) and sable (black). The escutcheon is charged with four sinister hands, roughly at centre chief, sinister, dexter, and centre base. Above the escutcheon is a straight wreath charged with a heraldic tiger, sejant (sitting position). 105. [Bookseller's Tickets for Chapman's Book Store] 1) In metallic gold ink on black glossy paper, the bookseller's ticket consists of plain text with no border or decoration. 2) In metallic gold ink on black matte paper, the bookseller's ticket consists of a gold border surrounding gold text. 106. [Bookplate for Pretre L. Bertrand] An ornate border of foliage, flowers, ribbons, and musical instruments surrounds the text. Below the printed text is a manuscript note. The back of the bookplate is covered in marbling, presumably lifted from a book when the bookplate was removed. 107. [Bookplate for R. J. A. Boreman] In black ink. This bookplate displays a bespectacled man, presumably the originator, reading a book by candle-light. With no tonal variation, he is set-off against a black background, framed with a thin, asymmetrical, ornate border. Above the profile-portrait is the originator's name, and below, his Latin motto and a separate component in which a book number has been stamped in red. 108. [Bookplate for W. H. Banfield] A picture of the bust of W.H. Banfield above green printed text. A green printed decorative border. 109. [Bookplate for London Public Library and Art Museum] This bookplate’s design features a depiction of the façade of the London, Canada, Mechanics’ Institute framed by two large maple trees. A banner above, labels the print as an ex-libris and a separate compartment below the building displays several books and the originating institution’s name. 110. [Bookplate for Charles Theodore Hart] Black ink on cream paper. Crest features the head of a stag in profile on a crest-wreath. The shield is pointed at the top left, top right, and bottom corners. The bottom of the shield curves to a central point. The shield is argent with a sable chevron charged with two stars on the top left and top right sides. The stars are white with black shading and a black circle in the center. Below the chevron the shield is charged with a springing stag. Below the shield the motto is printed on a ribbon in capitalized, serif font. Underneath the motto is the bookplate owner’s name in curling, italicized font. 111. [Bookplate for Ralph H. Kilby] Black ink on white paper. The crest features a circle with a border with black outlines and horizontal black lines. Inside the border there is a crown. The crown as three leafy designs at the top and the band is decorated with different jewels. The crest sits upon a crest-wreath. The shield has a border comprised of curling sections with ornate decorations on the ends. The shield is charged at the top with three black circles with white centers ; smaller versions of the black border featured in the crest. Below the circles are three horizontal black stripes. In the center of the top stripe is a white circle with black dots. Underneath the shield, the motto is printed on a curling ribbon in capitalized, sans serif black font. The bookplate owner’s name is printed in large, cursive, sentence case black font. 112. [Bookplate for University of British Columbia and Alice Ravenhill] Black ink on white paper. The bookplate features a border consisting of several black lines with X designs in the corners. There is the University of British Columbia crest. The chief has a dark background and features an open book with its straps lying out. The university motto is printed in stylized black font on the book’s open pages. The bottom section of the map was alternating black and white lines. From the bottom of the shield is part of a sun with its rays extending upwards. The sun is charged with black dots. To the right of the shield is stylized gothic text in large, black font. Below it is text printed in smaller, cursive, black font. At the bottom of the bookplate is smaller text printed in the gothic, black font with dotted lines next to the words. 113. [Bookplate for Johannis Platt by John Dickson Batten] This bookplate has both heraldic and pictoral qualities. The primary subject of the bookplate is a lamb, grazing in a glade of flowers, with bookplate owner's name in a banner below. In the background, the bookplate features a pen of sheep as well as a dead wolf hanging from a tree. At top-left corner, the bookplate features an escutcheon, azure (blue), charged with two fleur-de-lis and a lamb, two over one, and a chevron or (gold) charged with a fleur-de-lis and two cinque foil. Above the escutcheon is a peer helmet, with a wreath charged with a grazing lamb. Mantling radiates from the helmet, and Welsh motto is contained on one side. The entire scene is contained within a stylized border, with Welsh motto within. 114. [Bookseller's Ticket for John Mercier McMullen] In black ink on blue paper, the bookseller's ticket consists of a triple border with decorative corners surrounding black text in roman and italic type. The bottom right corner of the bookseller's ticket has been ripped away and replaced with white paper. 115. [Bookplate for Henry Young and Alice Young by Joseph Winfred Spenceley] In black ink on beige paper. In the centre, standing on the name plate, is the image of knight crusader, holding with outstretched arms a broad ribbon inscribed with the word "Credo." His Norman pointed shield hangs in front of his sword from a strap at his left hip ; the charges, untinctured, are: barry of five, in canton a leopard contournd. At either side of him rises a large acanthus-like scroll surmounted by a leopard's head ; behind him hangs an arras curtain, draped and knotted at the top. Across the base ripples a ribbon, inscribed "Ex libris Henry and Alice Young." The whole is enclosed in a narrow, formal frame. 116. [Bookplate for J. G. Chilcott] The text is in the centre of the bookplate, surrounded by a vine-like border. Four small flowers are in each corner of the border. The text 'TRURO' is bolded. 117. [Bookplate for Gamble Geddes] Black ink on cream paper. Crest features half a fish hauriant showing a fin, gills, and a head with teeth atop a crest-wreath. Sable shield charged with three of the aforementioned fish heads two over one and an argent insecutcheon. There is a ribbon-like banner with the motto below the shield with curling ends. Each side of the ribbon is angled towards a downward point. On the left side is text in capitalized black serif-font. The right side of the ribbon overlaps the left and has text in the same font. Below the motto, the owner’s name is written in curling sentence-case font. 118. [Bookplate for F. W. R. Johnston] Black ink on cream paper. The border of the bookplate is decorated with black and white checkers with a thin white line on the side of the border. In the center of the bookplate is a modernized heraldic design. The background of the center of the bookplate is black with small white dots. Text is printed at the top of the bookplate in white block letters. In the middle of the bookplate is a crest-wreath from which extends a knight’s armoured arm holding a sword that is printed on top of the block lettering. There is a black eight-pointed star with a hole in the middle on the knight’s elbow. The motto is printed on a ribbon that extends up along the left side of the knight’s arm and then cuts across and starts curling down on the right side of the arm, extending out horizontally on the right side and curling back up again. Capitalized, black, serif font is printed on three parts of the ribbon. The part of the ribbon that curls up on the right side has a black stem with leaves on it. The ribbon has a border of two, thin black lines. Below the crest-wreath is a chunkier scroll with curling ends on all sides. The bookplate owner’s name is printed in capitalized, curling, black, serif font. The last name is larger than the first initials. Below the same is a stylized white and black infinity symbol. Within the borders, in the bottom right corner, there is a small white circle with a white cross in the center. 119. [Bookplate for Reginald Hibbert Tupper] The crest is a dog with a flower in its mouth. Below the crest is a banner with the motto. 120. [Bookplate for Paramount Sweets and Tea Room by F. A. C.] Created in black ink on white paper. The text is surrounded by a border composed of a two lines, one of which is straight while the other has fluted decorations. Three lines composed of little squares separate the business's name and contact information from the list of library regulations.
