[Bookplate for Kathleen Reit and Francis Reit] This bookplate's design features a devil-like figure reading a book beneath a tree, by a brook. 42. [Bookplate for Lionel Damer] In black ink, this bookplate consists of an escutcheon, divided barry of six pieces, nebule, argent (silver) and gules (red), and a bend, engrailed, azure (blue). At the precise middle chief is a crescent, the symbol of the second son. The escutcheon also contains an inescutcheon, divided per cross. The first quadrant, argent, contains an unknown symbol, possibly a garbe, sable (black). The fourth quadrant, also argent, contains two of the same symbol. The second quadrant, divided per fess, or (gold) and azure (blue), contains two swans with wings displayed. The third quadrant is the same, except it contains only a single swan. The crest is an oval frame containing a talbot's head in a crown. Above the crest is floral mantling which extends down both sides of the escutcheon. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the Latin motto. 43. [Bookplate for London Public Library and Art Museum] This bookplate’s design features a depiction of the façade of the London, Canada, Mechanics’ Institute framed by two large maple trees. A banner above, labels the print as an ex-libris and a separate compartment below the building displays several books and the originating institution’s name. 44. [Bookplate for McIntosh Art Gallery by Leslie Victor Smith] Black ink on cream paper. White ivy border over stippled black background. Names of John Gordon McIntosh and Wilhelmina Morris McIntosh inscribed on facing pages of book, behind which is a lit torch whose rays span out from the center of the plate. The text of the plate is on a scroll which is woven around a lyre, a symbol of harmony. 45. [Bookplate for Mechanics' Institute of Moodyville] In black ink, a decorative border surrounds text printed in a variety of fonts and hand written notes. The paper is highly mottled, possibly the result of mold. 46. [Bookplate for Notre-Dame-de-Grâce by Avis Selina Fyshe] The image border, black ink on white paper, depicts the variety of topics of children's literature included in the library: travel, myths, fairy-tales, nature, crafts, sport, pets, legend, music, adventure, history, and science. Each subject is displayed with a representative image, including, train, plane, covered-wagon, trumpeter, knight, dragon, dog, rabbit, sailing boats, people, ostrich, monkey, princess and pegasus. 47. [Bookplate for Paul Hahn by J. M.] Black and blue ink on cream paper. The rectangular border consists of three black lines of decreasing thickness towards the center. In the top right corner is a small butterfly with outspread wings with some decoration. Below the butterfly is text in stylized, capitalized, black serif font. The bookplate owner’s name is printed below in slightly different stylized font in a larger size. Underneath the owner’s name is a larger butterfly with more elaborate outstretched wings. The text forms a single column in the left-hand side of the bookplate. To the right of the text is a bookshelf that appears to extend down to the bottom of the bookplate. Books are stacked in various ways on the shelf, spines facing out. In front of the bookshelf is a cello. The base of the cello sits in the bottom center of the bookplate and the neck extends up towards the top right-hand corner. At the top of the cello sits a butterfly, less elaborate than the others, that has been coloured in with blue ink. To the right of the cello is a tall object extending up along the bookshelf. A section of papers, potentially sheet music, in a folder in the bottom right corner. In the bottom left corner, the bookplate creator’s initials are printed in capitalized, black, serif font surrounded by a thin black border. 48. [Bookplate for Philip Southcote] In black ink, this bookplate consists of an elaborately bordered escutcheon, argent (silver), charged with a chevron, argent, three ducks, two over one and dexter, and an annulet at the precise middle chief. The annulet symbolizes the fifth son. The escutcheon is crested by a dexter closed helmet. Atop the helmet is a curved wreath and another duck, dexter. From either side of the crest flows elaborate mantling. 49. [Bookplate for Robert A. Harrison] Black ink on cream paper. Crest features a demi-lion rampant on the top part of a castle tower. The lion is wearing a crown and holding a floral wreath in its paws. There is a gentlemen and esquire’s helm surrounded by elaborately curling sable and argent mantling that extends out to each side and tapers down to the base of the bookplate. Shield is sable and charged with three demi-lions rampant, two over one. The lions are wearing crowns. The motto is below the shield printed in capitalized block white letters on a banner with curling ends. The bookplate owner’s name is printed in black, gothic sentence-case font at the bottom of the bookplate. 50. [Bookplate for Ruth Delia Lyman] Black ink on cream paper. A demi-bull sites atop a crest-wreath. The bull has its top legs up and a curling tail, as well as two horns. The motto is printed below the crest-wreath on a curling ribbon in capitalized, black, sans serif font. Below this image, two lines of text is printed in large, capitalized, black, sans serif font. 51. [Bookplate for Saul Globus] This bookplate features an airplane circling around an abstract structure against a dark sky. 52. [Bookplate for Thomas B. Greening] Printed in black ink on cream paper. In the centre of the image, a heraldic shield is depicted. The shield is decorated by two thick intersecting lines with reversed scalloped edges, forming a cross shape. The lines are incised with a pattern of thin, close-set vertical lines and contrast against a solid background. Below the shield, a banner with chevron-ed edges contains the phrase ‘A TOUTE FORCE.’ Above the shield, the head and neck of a horse is shown in profile, facing left, with its mouth open and mane flowing. 53. [Bookplate for Thomas Le Marchant] In black ink. This bookplate consists of an escutcheon, parted per pale. The first pale is divided in a paly of three, or (gold) and azure (blue). Dexter and sinister palys, or, are charged with a tree. While the center paly, azure, is charged with middle chief, a label and at the fess point a lion rampant. The second pale is parted per quarter. Quarters one and four are gules (red) and charged with three boar heads. Quarters two and three are argent (silver) on a chief, gules, charged with two mullets, argent. Above the crest is a straight wreath charged with a demi-lion, rampant, who clutches a scythe. The demi-lion is charged with two fleur-de-lis and below the escutcheon is a banner containing Le Marchant Thomas' Latin motto. 54. [Bookplate for Thomas Taylor by James Cole] In black ink. This bookplate consists of an escutcheon, sable (black) charged at the nombril point with a lion statant. The rococo escutcheon has scalloped edges at the top and is surrounded by vegetative mantling. Hidden in the mantling is the creator's signature, Cole sc. Above the crest is a straight wreath charged with a leopard statant and below the escutcheon is a banner containing Taylor's Latin motto. 55. [Bookplate for W.H. Smith & Son] Printed in black ink on purple paper, this textual bookplate is framed by a single-lined border in which a circled design is place in each corner. Affixed by a paper clip to the top right corner is a square, white stamp printed in black ink. Its text is: Finsbury London / Institution, Circus. E. 642 21 days. 56. [Bookplate for York University] Red ink of white paper. York University shield at centre. Text at top and bottom. The shield is charged with a leaved tudor rose, and has a chief charged with two lions passant guardant. 57. [Bookplate] In black ink on thin, white paper with visible chain and laid lines, an elaborate border surrounds the institution name and number. 58. [Bookplate] A simple border surrounds the text. On the top left is the crest of Cercle La Salle. It shows a shield divided in three: at the top is a lit oil lamp, on the bottom left are three vertical fleur-de-lis and at the bottom right is a cross over top of a crossed pen and sword. A banner over the top of the crest contains the name of the organization and one at the bottom contains the motto. Maple branches present a wreath at the bottom. 59. [Bookseller's Ticket for W. C.
