[Bookplate for Dunbar Browne] A floral, somewhat art nouveau style border surrounding the text. 2. [Bookplate for Alfred P. S. Dubord] A simple border surrounds the text. In the year “1856” the six is clearly written in black ink. A dashed line separates the first two lines of text from the last line of text. 3. [Bookplate for Henry Dunckley] There is a single rectangular filleted box surrounding the text of the bookplate. 4. [Bookplate for Arthur Richard Springett] In black ink on white paper, this bookplate consists of a shield or escutcheon Gules (red) party per fess wavy with three crescents, two over one, Argent (silver). The closed, barred helm in profile toward the dexter half bears a crest of a displayed eagle upon a nowed snake in a figure eight and a straight wreath. The helm is surrounded by mantling. Below the escutcheon, a banner bears the motto 'MEMOR ET FIDELIS' [Latin: Mindful and Faithful]. 5. [Bookbinder's Ticket] In black ink on white paper, the bookbinder's ticket consists of a border made up of joined circles surrounding black text of various sizes and fonts. The word 'Carswell' begins with a decorative letter 'C'. A decorative element in the shape of a water drop or a flame is found in the lower middle of the bookbinder's ticket. 6. [Bookseller's Ticket for James Bain] In black ink on white paper, the bookseller's ticket consists of a serpentine black border with decorative elements in the four corners surrounding black text in roman and italic type. 7. [Bookbinder's Tickets for Joseph Fortier] 1) In dark blue ink on white paper, the bookbinder's ticket is in the shape of a closed book, with the spine on the left and text on the font cover. The front cover of the book is a field of blue with text and design elements in white / reversed-out text. A white field with blue text in the lower half of the book cover provides space for a handwritten reorder number. 2) In black ink on pink paper, the bookbinder's ticket consists of a thin black border surrounding black text. 8. [Bookplate for Rev. Pierre Beaumont] The bookplate is printed in black ink on cream paper, now discolored. One penciled notation in the lower left. 9. [Bookplate for James Henry Browning] Centered text with multiple fonts in black ink. 10. [Bookplate for Dunham Ladies’ College] Grey ink on cream paper. It features a border, double-lined. Within border, at the top, sits the title of the college in Germanic lettering. Directly beneath this title sits a curlicue line (centred), followed by the purpose and date that the plate was issued. Within the bottom half of the plate is four information lines, for prize recipient, donor, recipient, and principal signature. All of these information lines contain handwritten responses in faded black ink. 11. [Bookplate for Bibliotheque paroissiale de St. Henri] Black ink on blue green paper. Thick line border with inner border comprised of thin lines. The borders are not connected at the corners. The library name is written in capital letters of different sizes and serif font styles. Sentence case serif font indicates the card number space. Handwritten notes in pencil in the card number section and on the verso of the bookplate. 12. [Bookplate for Henry James Grasett] Black ink on cream paper. Crest features bow loaded with arrow aimed to the left. Feathers stretch outwards on either side of the base of the bow on a crest-wreath. Shield is argent and sable per saltire, divided with a sable cross. Top and bottom quarters are argent charged with a plant with round top and brush head. Feathery leaves appear at either side of the base. Top feature has two sable stylized decorations featuring roundels three over two atop three lines connected at the top that separate outwards at the bottom. Four of the same decorations are featured in the bottom quarter. Left and right quarters are sable charged with five point stars and a stylized design element similar to those in the top and bottom quarters, but thicker and in argent. The shield is surrounded by a stylized border decorated with various curls. Below the shield, the motto is written in capitalized block letters on ribbon with elaborately curled blackening ends. 13. [Bookplate for John Jenkins D.D.] Black ink on white paper. The crest features a white lion passant reguardant with black spots standing on the top portion of a stone castle tower. The tower sits on a crest-wreath. The shield is divided per cross. Around the shield is a curling border with leafy adornments and spirals on the sides. The border is thicker on the left, right, and bottom portion. The border does not cover the entire shield ; there are gaps at the top left and right corners and at the center of the base. The top left and bottom right sections of the shield are identical. They have a black and white striped background and are charged with a white chevron decorated with black dots. They are also charged with three white fleur-de-lis, two over one around the chevron. The top right and bottom left sections of the shield are also identical. They have a white background with black dots and are charged with a black lion rampant reguardant. Below the shield, the motto is printed on a ribbon with leafy ends that match the shield’s decorative border. The motto is printed in capitalized, black, serif font. The bookplate owner’s name is printed underneath the motto in thin, sentence-case, black, cursive font. 14. [Bookplate for G. P. Girdwood] Oval-shaped circular border with legend containing a motto printed in capital block letters across the top half. Bottom half of the border has shading, decorate circles, and a decorative end. Border made to look like a ribbon, one end of which loops over the bottom of the oval. End of the ribbon has thin borders, circular decorations, and almost tapers to a point with decorative curls at the end. In the center of the oval is a demi-lion rampant guardant. In its right paw, the lion holds a tree with round foliage at the top and sprawling roots at its base. Below the image is text written in stylized sentence-case serif font. 15. [Bookplate for Catholic Commercial Academy of Montreal, Wm Price, and U. E. Archambault by Geo. E. Desbarats] Black ink on white paper. The border of the bookplate comprises three layers: the outermost is an abstract floral motif on the four corners ; secondly is a geometric pattern of triangles ; the innermost layer is a plain line. Curlicues surround the words “Catholic” and “of Montreal.” The bookplate is a pre-printed form with space for the prize name, winner, year and date to be filled out. 16. [Bookplate for Edgell Wyatt-Edgell] In black ink, this bookplate consists of an escutcheon divided quarterly, and containing an inescutcheon. The first and forth quadrants of the escutcheon are sable (black) with a fess, dancette and argent (silver), three eagles displayed, two over one and or (gold), and chief, or. The second and third quadrants are argent, with a sable chevron containing three roundlets bezant (gold), and cinque foil, two over one and gules (red). The inescutcheon is checky, or and gules, and contains a lion rampant guardant. Atop the escutcheon is a dexter helmet, closed with mantling flowing horizontally from its top. Above the mantling are two further crests. The dexter consists of a demi-lion rampant, embattled in or and sable, on a wreath, holding an inverted arrow in its dexter paw. The sinister crest consists of a demi-lion rampant on a wreath, holding the long stem of a cinque foil, gules, in both its paws. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the Latin motto. 17. [Bookplate for George Francis Steele by E. J. W.] In black ink on white or cream paper it depicts a nude male figure riding a Pegasus in the upper left surrounded by a swirl of stars, planets, and other astronomical bodies. Another nude, winged male figure in the lower right holds a quill pen in his right hand and in his left, the end of a ribbon on which "EX LIBRIS / AD ASTRA" is written. A dark dome, possibly representing a planet, occupies the lower left. There are blue smudges, possibly ink, across the lower third of the bookplate. 18. [Bookplate for Dunbar Browne Jr.] A floral, somewhat art nouveau style border surrounding the text. 19. [Bookplates for Bell Telephone Company of Canada] This bookplate is in two parts ' one to show who made the presentation, the other to show ownership by the library. Part 1 (upper): This bookplate is composed of black text, with a dotted line at the bottom on which to record the name of the presenter. Part 2 (lower): This bookplate is composed of black text, with a small form number in the upper right, the major text with parts bolded, and a grid below that for recording due dates. Both of these pieces have an unused full glue coating on the back. 20. [Bookplate for F. E. Gilman] Black ink on pink paper. A patterned border surrounds the name and title of the bookplate owner. The name of the owner is written in capital letters with sans serif font.
