[Bookplate for Seeli Armitage-Stanley and Earl Spencer] In black ink on white paper, this heraldic bookplate consists of an Escutcheon quartered per cross and incorporates aspects of both the Armitage and the Stanley family crests. The dexter chief and sinister base sections are drawn from the Stanley crest and contain an azure (blue) garter, which holds three stag's head caboshed, on argent (silver). The sinister chief and dexter base quarters, taken from the Armitage crest, are gules (red) with three crosslets argent, two in chief and one in base, and a lion's head in fess. The helm consists of two helmets, to signify the incorporation of the two families, and is surrounded by mantling. Above the helm there is a small banner bearing the Armitage family motto, 'semper paratus.' Below the Escutcheon is another banner bearing the motto of the Stanley family, 'sans changer.'. 22. [Bookplate for Heinrich Teuscher by K. Kleindienst] In brown ink on cream coloured paper with visible chain and laid lines, a plane is pictured above an image of a building, all of which is surrounded by a floral border, architectural features, and a gardener with a bag. 23. [Bookplate for Marcus Brown Westhead] In black ink on white paper, this bookplate consists of a shield quartered. First and fourth quarter, argent, two barrulets dancette sable, between three Saracens' heads couped at the shoulders proper, wreathed round the temples, of the first and second. Second and third quarter, azure, on a fesse argent, between three martlets in chief, and the Roman fasces erect surmounting two swords in saltire, and encircled by a chaplet in base or, three chess-rooks sable. Center inescutcheon, party per chevron or and azure, in chief a mullet of six points lies between two crosses pattée of the last, and in base the front elevation of a chapel argent, the whole being charged with a crescent for difference. First crest, on a wreath of the colors, within a fetterlock or, a Saracen's head couped proper, wreathed round the temples argent and sable. Second crest, on a wreath of the colours, a demi-eagle displayed with two heads azure, charged on the breast with the fasces, swords, and chaplet, as in the arms. The escutcheon is surrounded by mantling and below a banner bears the motto 'ORA ET LABORA.'. 24. [Bookplate for J. I. Frank Anthes] In red and black ink on cream or white paper, the bookplate consists of a red double border surrounding black text. 25. [Bookplate for I. O. Körner and J. E. Horvath by K. M. S.] A central panel with the ownership text is surrounded by mantling that comes out of a vase at the bottom. Flanking the ownership panel there are two figures holding books at each side. Hanging from the mantling on the bottom are a drum and lyre, and surrounding the top are various animals. The top of the bookplate is crowned with a globe. 26. [Bookplate for Lieve Van Kerkhove and Martin Jackson] In black ink, this pictorial contemporary bookplate consists of a nude female, seated in a wood boat which is too small relative to her size. The nude's knees are up, her legs spread open, and her feet and buttocks rest on the outer edges of the craft (only her left foot and left buttock are visible). Extending from inside the boat upwards into the air, and held by the nude's right hand, is a larger-than-life fountain pen. The nude's left arm descends behind her raised knee, and emerges from behind the left buttock as a hand holding the stem of a rose ; the hand and rose appearing somewhat disconnected from the rest of the body. Resting between her legs, seen as almost emerging from the pubic region, is a cat with upraised tail and paws which rest on the bow of the boat. Below the cat, on the port side of the boat is an image of a lyre. In the turbulent river which surrounds the boat, one can see additional rose blossoms floating on the surface of the water. In the background, there is an automobile crossing a stone bridge and a large stone church with steeples on the left. One can see a flock of birds flying above the church's western steeple. In the background on the right, one can see the church's cemetery. 27. [Bookplate for George H. Fensom by Walter Lohse] Black and yellow ink on thick, cream coloured paper. This bookplate features a well-lit, paned window framing a rearing Pegasus. Plants and vines surround the window. 28. [Bookplate for Howard Murray] In black ink on cream coloured paper. This bookplate depicts a sitting room with two chairs and a window looking out on trees, rolling hills and a body of water. A scroll at the base containing the originator's name is flanked by a pile of books. 29. [Bookplate for Charles Fyfe by R. P.] Bookplate printed in black ink, with a purple/blue ink, rubber-stamped annotation. This ex-libris depicts a woman reading to a young boy on a park or garden bench. The idyllic landscape behind them features a lake with two swans swimming in it. Further in the distance is a forest with the silhouettes of two figures standing among the trees and large dramatic clounds sweeping by in the background. 30. [Bookplate for Edward Murphy] Blazon is divided per quarter and per fess. Dexter chief and sinister base show a lion rampant on argent (silver) background. Sinister chief and dexter base show a lion rampant on gules (red). Fess shows three garbs over sable (black) background. Above the blazon is a straight wreath, charged with a lion rampant leaning on a garb. The motto is on a scroll below the blazon. 31. [Bookplate by G.H.] This bookplate's design features a ship sailing through windy seas with a large cloud in the background. 32. [Bookplate for Lockwood] This bookplate's design features an escutcheon, argent (silver) and sable (black), charged with three martlets. Another martlet rests above the escutcheon on the stump of an oak tree, erased and the Lockwood family motto appears in a banner below. 33. [Bookplate for E. W. Neville by Marjorie Sankey] In black ink on yellow/brown paper. The elaborate façade of a building is held up by a large tree with many roots. The owner’s name is featured in the gate entrance. The thick paper features chain and laid lines. 34. [Bookplate for United Service Club] This bookplate's design features a royal crown above a thistle, clovers, a rose, and two surrounding branches. 35. [Bookplate for National Gallery of Canada Library by Alfred H. Howard] Burgundy ink on cream paper. Three young boys respectively engaged in painting, drawing and sculpting are enclosed by a large circle, at the center of which lies an open book. The entire bookplate is surrounded by a multi-layered border. The artist's remarque is in the lower right hand corner of the border. 36. [Bookplate for Notre-Dame-de-Grâce by Avis Selina Fyshe] The image border, black ink on white paper, depicts the variety of topics of children's literature included in the library: travel, myths, fairy-tales, nature, crafts, sport, pets, legend, music, adventure, history, and science. Each subject is displayed with a representative image, including, train, plane, covered-wagon, trumpeter, knight, dragon, dog, rabbit, sailing boats, people, ostrich, monkey, princess and pegasus. 37. [Bookplate for Boys and Girls Library of the National Council of Jewish Women by G. H.] A large book with a man peeking out of its splayed pages hovers above a collection of images from children’s literature: ships, trains, flamingo, cat, knight on horseback,and other human figures. The symbol of the National Council of Jewish Women sits at the center of the book plate with the date of the organization's foundation. 38. [Bookplate for Mary Alice Peck] Black ink on grey paper. The top portion of the bookplate features a series of vines on which appear to be bell shaped flowers, beneath which lies the owner's name. 39. [Bookplate for Lorne A. Pierce by Marjorie Sankey] Printed in black ink on thick yellow/brown paper with visible chain and laid lines. The facade of a building entrance is supported and surrounded by a large tree. The owner's name appears in the otherwise blank doorway and two horizontal strips on the surrounding columns appear to be blacked out by hand. 40. [Bookplate for National Prison Reform Association] In black ink on white paper. Image includes a rectangular decorative border in a repetitive pattern.
