[Bookseller's Ticket for John Mercier McMullen] In black ink on blue paper, the bookseller's ticket consists of a triple border with decorative corners surrounding black text in roman and italic type. The bottom right corner of the bookseller's ticket has been ripped away and replaced with white paper. 43. [Bookplate for Carleton Place High School] A wavy border surrounds the words. The name 'Carleton Place' is written in slightly smaller sans-serif font, and underneath the words 'High School Library' are written in a larger serif font. There are three lines and then the name of the department to which the book belonged. Underneath this are three more lines, and then the class number to which the book belonged. 52. [Bookplate for Carleton Place High School] A border of small round stylized flowers surrounds the bookplate text. The first line is written in a font with a small dot in the letters 'C', 'O', and 'P'. The second line is written in a more ornate font. Under this line there is a small stylized flower similar to the ones that comprise the border. Under this is the typed word 'No.' with a line that is filled in by hand with a number. 53. [Bookplate for W. J. M. Jones] The book plate owner's name and city are printed in black ink on cream paper in one script-style font. 54. [Bookplate for Thomas B. Greening] Printed in black ink on cream paper. In the centre of the image, a heraldic shield is depicted. The shield is decorated by two thick intersecting lines with reversed scalloped edges, forming a cross shape. The lines are incised with a pattern of thin, close-set vertical lines and contrast against a solid background. Below the shield, a banner with chevron-ed edges contains the phrase ‘A TOUTE FORCE.’ Above the shield, the head and neck of a horse is shown in profile, facing left, with its mouth open and mane flowing. 55. [Bookplate for William Greening and Cornelia Greening by A. N. Macdonald] Black ink on cream paper. Elaborately decorated frame surrounds three round images, two small ones atop a larger, oval one. The border has a shelf-like appearance with the top featuring a series of curling, heart-shaped decorations with a large, spiraling curlicue extending to the left and right. The very centre of the top element features a leaf-like decoration pointing upwards. The top half of the sides of the border features symmetrical leafy curlicue decorations that extend downwards with a pseudo-fleurs-de-lis to a line of elaborate floral decorations. The large oval image extends to the sides of the borders and below the oval are decorations on both the left and right sides. The left side features a tennis racket entwined in leafy decoration. The right side contains golf clubs in the same leafy decoration. Leafy decoration also surround the two small images inside the border, which are connected by two wrapping ribbons in the centre. The image on the left features an explorer holding a walking stick and wearing a hat looking out onto a nature landscape. The landscape includes water and a mountain topped with clouds. The image on the right contains a road curving to the right. The right side of the road features foliage, including several palm trees. The large, central image shows a house with some of its garden in the foreground. The forefront of the image is a simple lawn, followed by several small trees on the left with plants in barrels, a table, and several chairs on the right. Between the trees and chairs is a path leading further into the garden and towards the house. The house is quite large and has at least two stories and a sheltered porch. Towards the other end of the house and garden are taller trees. Below the images is a rectangular box with a border. The border consists of two thin white lines with a darker centre between them. The centre of the rectangle contains text written in capitalized serif font in varying sizes. Below the rectangle, the artist’s name and date of creation is written in small, sentence-case serif font. Handwritten note in pencil on the back. 56. [Bookplate for Gilbert Finlay Girdwood] Black ink on white paper. Argent and sable with a straight line down the middle. Left hand side is sable and argent per pale charged with three castle towers, two over one. Right hand side is argent, with a chevron engrailed sable. Chevron surrounded by three roundlets sable, two over one. Shield is wrapped in stylized bordure. At the top, is a crest featuring a demi-lion rampant guardant, tail extended holding a tree in its right paw. Lion sits on a crest-wreath. Below is a motto on a stylized banner with decorative ends. The bottom of the bookplate has typed cursive fond followed by serif font. 57. [Bookplate for Edward Feild Hebden by H. A. W.] Black ink on cream paper. Crest features a lion passant on a crest-wreath. Below the crest is a gentlemen and esquire’s helm with elaborate, ribbon-like, mantling extending out and down the entire bookplate. The shield is argent and divided quarterly. The top left corner and bottom right corner are charged in the center with 5 black diamonds. The background pattern features a repeating geometric of three dots atop an arrow with three flared out points at the bottom. The top right corner and the bottom left corner are charged with a cross patonce. Below the shield is a ribbon with a larger section foregrounded and a smaller section closer to the bottom of the bookplate. The motto is printed on that small section in capitalized, sans-serif font. The bookplate owner’s name is printed on the foregrounded section in larger capitalized serif font. Below the ribbon is small text printed in sans-serif font. 58. [Bookplate for Ernest Fawcett by British Columbia Department of Education] Executed in black ink, this pre-printed textual bookplate is framed by a triple-lined border. The dotted lines have been filled in by hand in what was originally black ink but which is now green where the ink bled into the paper. 59. [Bookplate for W.H. Smith & Son] Printed in black ink on purple paper, this textual bookplate is framed by a single-lined border in which a circled design is place in each corner. Affixed by a paper clip to the top right corner is a square, white stamp printed in black ink. Its text is: Finsbury London / Institution, Circus. E. 642 21 days. 60. [Bookplate for Hart House Library by J. E. H. MacDonald] Brown ink on tan paper. Plate divided into three sections. At the top, the University of Toronto shield sits to the left of the text. In the middle is a picture of Hart House as seen from above.
