[Bookplate for R. J. A. Boreman] In black ink. This bookplate displays a bespectacled man, presumably the originator, reading a book by candle-light. With no tonal variation, he is set-off against a black background, framed with a thin, asymmetrical, ornate border. Above the profile-portrait is the originator's name, and below, his Latin motto and a separate component in which a book number has been stamped in red. 22. [Bookplate for Rufus Hawtin Hathaway by J. E. MacDonald] Printed in black ink on cream-coloured paper. An interior scene depicts a robed and tonsured monk sitting in a study room. The monk is seated with his head resting in his right hand on the far side of a lectern that holds three open, vellum-bound manuscripts. Behind the monk, an open wooden cupboard is topped by a niche shelf with many closed, bound vellum manuscripts and a human skull. To the far left, there is a recessed bench seat at a diamond paned window containing several objects, including a crucifix, an hour glass, and another manuscript. The entire scene is framed by a border that contains the owner’s name and motto, as well as decorative vine-leaf scrollwork. 23. [Bookplate for S. C. Lunsford by Frits Jacobsen] The Dominion Building is depicted, which is located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and provincially designated a heritage building. 24. [Bookplate for Sir Casimir Stanislaus Gzowski] The coat of arms consists of a shield charged with an upright rake on a gold field, topped with a helmet and feathers. The ribbon under the shield contains the owner’s name. 25. [Bookplate for Sir George Frederick Samuel Robinson] This heraldic bookplate consists of a crest of a stag at gaze, which is upon a small version of a coronet of duke status. Surrounding the crest in a circular orientation is a garter of azure (blue), with French motto within. Surrounding the garter is a heraldic collar, with twelve roses (surrounded by circular garters with French motto within) at regular intervals. Upon the collar is a full version of a coronet of duke status, and immediately below the collar (as a pendant) is a rendering of the biblical event of St. George slaying the dragon. 26. [Bookplate for Stanley Harrod] Black ink on cream paper. The bookplate features an elaborate border. A thin black line outlines a thick black and white design featuring repeating white floral motifs in diamond shapes on a black background. A thin white border separates the border from the internal image. The image features a monk writing at a desk. The monk is in white clothes and the wooden desk and chair are black. The desk has a special stand for writing. Above the monk to the left is a window with the shutters open, showing several buildings, one of which is a tall tower, outside. There are trees amongst the buildings and a large fluffy cloud behind the tower. Inside the room, directly above the monk, are several bookshelves attached to the wall. There is some pottery on the top shelf and three rows of books, spines facing out, below. To the top right of the monk is another window with the shutters closed. The shutters appear wooden with round circles cut out of them. The walls and floors of the room are also wooden. On the floor to the right of the desk is a closed book. Below this image, surrounded by a thin white border, is a white rectangle with capitalized, black, serif font printed in it. The words are separated by centered black dots. Between this rectangle and the larger overall border are white, curling ribbons. 27. [Bookplate for United Service Club] This bookplate's design features a royal crown above a thistle, clovers, a rose, and two surrounding branches. 28. [Bookplate for Walter Stevens Herrington] This bookplate's design features a distinct rectangular frame, with flora, particularly pine needles, pine cones and maple leaves, in the upper portion, an hour glass and scales in the lower corners and a book shelf along the bottom border. Within this decorated frame, an open book displays the originator's name, and below, many literary characters appear, including a mother and child, a crowned princess or queen and a winged fairy. 29. [Bookplate for William Hulme] This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon, parted per cross. Quarters one and four are parted per pale, with dexter half argent (silver) and sinister half with a barry of eight argent and vert (green). The quarters are charged with two bendlets, one invected. Quarters two and three are argent, parted per chevron, charged with two chaplets and a lion's head erased, two over one. Above the escutcheon is a viscount crown, without the cap or fur, and above the crown is a helmet, positioned in three-quarters profile, indicating the status of peer. Above the helmet is a straight wreath, charged with a cock with a heraldric rose, standing upon a trumpet. Elaborate mantling and banner containing Latin motto radiates out from the helmet, and two elephants support the shield. The elephant at dexter is charged with another heraldic rose, and the elephant at sinister is charged with another chaplet. Below the shield is a banner, with name of bookplate owner. 30. [Bookplate] Colour ink on white paper. Stylized green turtle stands among cat tails on a blue background. White box at bottom for owner's name. 31. [Bookplate] Image shows both the recto and verso of the sample bookplate sheet produced by the Globe Wernicke Co. of Cincinnati, Ohio. The sheet contains two sample bookplates. The one on the left, in colour, shows two white swans on a water-lily spotted lake. On the distant shoreline, one can see among the green foliage the rooftop and chimney of a home. The image is framed by an oval floral border on a yellow and white background. The second sample bookplate, on the right, shows a pirate on a beach, either burying treasure or digging it up. On the pale blue water of the horizon, a ship sits in wait. The sample bookplate sheet is divided into four sections by perforated lines. The recto also includes a mail order form for more sample bookplates and a booklet on "The World's Best Books". The verso includes the reverse of the mail order form, complete with place for a stamp, and also an advertisement for Globe-Wernicke bookcases. 32. [Bookplate] In black ink on thin, white paper with visible chain and laid lines, an elaborate border surrounds the institution name and number. 33. [Bookseller's Ticket for James Bain] In black ink on white paper, the bookseller's ticket consists of a serpentine black border with decorative elements in the four corners surrounding black text in roman and italic type. 34. [Bookseller's Ticket for R. & C. Chalmers] In black ink on yellow paper, the bookseller's ticket consists of a decorative border surrounding black text. 35. [Bookseller's Tickets for J.A. Carveth & Co Limited] 1) In black ink on white paper, the bookseller's ticket consists of a thin black border surrounding black text. 2) In blue ink on white paper, the bookseller's ticket consists of a thin blue border surrounding blue text. 3) In black ink on white paper, the bookseller's ticket consists of a thin black border surrounding black text. 36. [Bookseller's Tickets for Samuel Carsley] 1) In dark blue ink on white paper, the bookseller's ticket consists of a field of dark blue ink with a thin white / reserved-out border surrounding white text. 2) In gold metallic ink on red glossy paper, the bookseller's ticket consists of a simple gold border surrounding gold text. 37.
