[Bookplate for John C. Brune] This bookplate consists of a pictorial escutcheon. The image is of a stag at speed emerging from the woods. Above the shield is a helmet, front facing with bars, topped with a crest wreath and a rack of antlers. From the sides of the helmet flows elaborate heraldic mantling. 2. [Bookplate for Frank Marx Etting] In black ink, this bookplate consists of an escutcheon, argent (silver), containing a chevron, gules (red). On the chevron are three roundlets, argent. The escutcheon is bordered by mantling, and crested by a dexter cubit arm holding a sword. Impaled on the sword is a boar's head. The boar's head is said to represent unflinching courage and fierceness on the battlefield. In Irish literature, it was symbolic of aggression and savegery, and symbolized the Devil. 3. [Bookplate for Benjamin Gott] In black ink. Escutcheon inside a garter on which is the Latin motto. Inescutcheon parted per bend, argent [white], charged with two roses on either side of a lion, passant ; coticed, argent, and charged with three tufts of ermine each, sable [black].Two layer bordure, countercharged, argent and sable. Above the escutcheon is a curved crest wreath on which is a demi-gryphon, displayed. 4. [Bookplate for Norman M. Keith by W. W. A.] This bookplate's design features a lakeside camping scene with mountains visible in the distance. It is framed by Scottish thistles. Above the scene are three logos representing the Royal Army Medical Corps, the University of Toronto, and Johns Hopkins University. A globe and stack of books are featured in the lower left corner and a small escutcheon of the University of Toronto sits at the bottom centre of the design. 5. [Bookplate for Lesslie M. Sweetnam by F. F. H.] Printed in black ink on white or cream paper, the bookplate shows a figure reading a book while sitting at a roll top desk with his / her back facing the viewer. The desk is flanked on either side by full bookcases and is topped by a reading lamp, additional books, and a small picture frame. Two framed objects hang on the wall above the desk. 6. [Bookplate for G. P. Girdwood] Oval-shaped circular border with legend containing a motto printed in capital block letters across the top half. Bottom half of the border has shading, decorate circles, and a decorative end. Border made to look like a ribbon, one end of which loops over the bottom of the oval. End of the ribbon has thin borders, circular decorations, and almost tapers to a point with decorative curls at the end. In the center of the oval is a demi-lion rampant guardant. In its right paw, the lion holds a tree with round foliage at the top and sprawling roots at its base.
