[Bookplate by Eiichi Hirose] A grey postage stamp ridge surrounds the central black outlined rectangle that contains the central image. The central image is of a brown roofed Shinto/Buddhist shrine with a blue road leading beneath twin orange pillars with a black crossbeam at the top. Two blue stone lanterns sit next to the outwards side of each pillar. The image is set on a yellow field. 2. [Bookplate for James Stevenson by H. Wilson] A Latin phrase is written on a banner at the top of the plate. Beneath it is a hand ascending from a heraldic silk wreath, holding a crown of leaves. While illustrated in a pictorial style, the image is reminiscent of the heraldic image of a dexter hand couped at the wrist, holding a crown of laurel or bay leaves. 3. [Bookplate for Robert Smart] An armorial bookplate printed in black ink on white paper. A bird displayed, wings inverted, couped with thistle in beak, with a crest wreath, argent and vert (silver and green). Beneath that is a shield, party per pale, erminois and argent. The dexter side, erminois, per chevron azure (blue) with three chess rooks, gules (red). The dexter side, argent, per fess, gules, with two diamonds, sable (black). 4. [Bookplate for University of British Columbia] An armorial shield with a Cyrillic motto beneath it. 5. [Bookplate for James Fielding Sweeny] At the top center of the bookplate is a mitre with a crosier on the left side and a banner on the right side. Below that is a crest with argent (silver) background, divided by per pale ; on the sinister side, a mitre and key are crossed, with a coronet, two books, and a dove, holding an olive branch. A four-lined border frame with black iron crosses in each of the four corners. Within this border is the printed name of the library, followed by a curlicue. Beneath this sits a number line with a blank line. In blue ink, a number and letter are written. 7. [Bookplate for K. M. Fenwick] Black ink on brown paper. A border depicting wooden beams with vines growing on them houses the name of the owner and the number and volume entries. Beneath the name of the owner is a short horizontal dividing line. Both the number and volume are handwritten in black ink. 8. [Bookplate for Dundas Public Library] Black ink on brown paper. A border made up of pommy crosses houses the name of the library and its borrowing policies. The title of the library is printed in Germanic text, and beneath it is a double-lined, horizontal divider. In the bottom half of the plate is printed the borrowing policy. 9. Nisbet] Black ink on cream paper. A boar passant on a straight wreath, beneath which flies a banner with the family motto and the individual's name. 11. [Bookplate for Dundas Mechanics’ Institute and Library Association] Black ink on cream paper. A border of small circles surrounds the title of the library, its classification information, its opening hours, and its borrowing policies. Beneath the title of the library is a vertical dividing line. The classification row contains several hand-written notes in black ink. Above the borrowing policy is short, curvy dividing line. 12. [Bookplate for Fraser Institute] Black ink on cream paper. A bust of a reindeer is printed above a heraldic ribbon with French wording within it. A printed cloth border with four-petal flowers in the upper-right and upper-left corners houses the title, location, and loan policies of the library. The cloth border does not extend to the top perimeter, and instead a single horizontal line runs between the two four-petal flowers. Directly above this horizontal line is a number written in blue ink. Between the city and the loan policy is a vertical dividing line with a curlicue in the centre. Beneath the loan policy is a number space in which a number has been entered in black ink with a line crossing it out in blue ink. 16. [Bookplate for Dundas Mechanics’ Institute] Black ink on cream paper. A slim, double-lined border surrounds the title of the library and its borrowing policies. Beneath the title of the library is a dividing line with two ovals at the center. This divider is repeated beneath the open hours and the categorization rows. Within the categorization row is a space for number and a number in black ink is handwritten. 17. [Bookplate for Dunham Methodist Sunday School] Black ink on cream paper. A thin, vine-like border houses the text. No content lies outside of this border. Inside, the name of the school library is centered in the upper portion. A fillable number section is located in the central portion, with the number 216 erased out and the number 56 written to the right of it in blue ink. Beneath this section is a small printed hand icon pointing towards a note instructing the user of the library usage policy. In the portion of this note for the librarian to write the number of days until it’s due is written the number 14 in pencil. 18. [Bookplate for Evans Bros.] Black ink on cream paper. At the top of the bookplate sits the title and address of the library. Beneath this is a header for the library rules, written in Germanic font. Beneath this section sits a horizontal dividing line, followed by the five individual rules and policies. This section is divided into two columns. On the left are headers for each type of rule or policy, and on the right sits the body of each. Between the two columns is a vertical dividing line. 19. [Bookplate for Hôpital Gènèral Québec] Black ink on cream paper. Border made of thin solid lines. Inside the solid black line border is a thin dotted line border. The corners feature stylized decorations that are wing-like with circular additions on three sides. Each decoration also features a full or half-circle element facing the center of the bookplate. The name of the hospital is written in larger, capitalized, bold font, with the location being in slightly smaller font. There is a squiggled line beneath the hospital name. Below the line are three areas with dotted lines to be filled in. Names of the fields are written in italicized sentence case font. One handwritten note in the number section. 20. [Bookplate for Henry James Grasett] Black ink on cream paper. Crest features bow loaded with arrow aimed to the left. Feathers stretch outwards on either side of the base of the bow on a crest-wreath. Shield is argent and sable per saltire, divided with a sable cross. Top and bottom quarters are argent charged with a plant with round top and brush head. Feathery leaves appear at either side of the base. Top feature has two sable stylized decorations featuring roundels three over two atop three lines connected at the top that separate outwards at the bottom. Four of the same decorations are featured in the bottom quarter. Left and right quarters are sable charged with five point stars and a stylized design element similar to those in the top and bottom quarters, but thicker and in argent. The shield is surrounded by a stylized border decorated with various curls.
