[Bookplate for P Kelly] In black ink. This bookplate consists of an escutcheon, azure (blue), a tower triple towered with three crosses couped, two over one on the tower, supporters, two lioncels combatant. Vizored helm of an esquire or gentleman above the escutcheon, with mantling. Above the helm is a curved crest wreath topped with an unidentifiable beast with the head of a bird, front feet cloven, and hindquarters of a dog, statant. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the Latin motto. 142. [Bookplate for Thomas Le Marchant] In black ink. This bookplate consists of an escutcheon, parted per pale. The first pale is divided in a paly of three, or (gold) and azure (blue). Dexter and sinister palys, or, are charged with a tree. While the center paly, azure, is charged with middle chief, a label and at the fess point a lion rampant. The second pale is parted per quarter. Quarters one and four are gules (red) and charged with three boar heads. Quarters two and three are argent (silver) on a chief, gules, charged with two mullets, argent. Above the crest is a straight wreath charged with a demi-lion, rampant, who clutches a scythe. The demi-lion is charged with two fleur-de-lis and below the escutcheon is a banner containing Le Marchant Thomas' Latin motto. 143. [Bookplate for Thomas Taylor by James Cole] In black ink. This bookplate consists of an escutcheon, sable (black) charged at the nombril point with a lion statant. The rococo escutcheon has scalloped edges at the top and is surrounded by vegetative mantling. Hidden in the mantling is the creator's signature, Cole sc. Above the crest is a straight wreath charged with a leopard statant and below the escutcheon is a banner containing Taylor's Latin motto. 144. [Bookplate for Caldwell] In black ink. This bookplate consists of an or (gold) escutcheon, containing three sable (black) piles arranged in chief, and four alternating wavy bars of gules (red) and vert (green). Each pile contains a roundlet. Each roundlet has wavy barry of seven pieces, plate (silver roundlet) and hurts (blue roundlet). The crest is a demi-lion rampant grasping a broken scimetar, all proper on a wreath. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the latin motto. 145. [Bookplate for Peter Cameron] In black ink. This bookplate consists of escutcheon, barry of seven pieces, argent (silver) and gules (red). The crest, atop a straight wreath, appears as a dexter arm, vambraced, and holding a sword. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the latin motto. 146. [Bookplate for James C. Dewar] In black ink. This bookplate consists of escutcheon, or (gold), with a chief, azure (blue). The crest is of a dexter arm grasping a sword, vambranced to the dexter. Above the escutcheon is a banner containing the Latin motto. 147. [Bookplate for Coombe] In black ink. This ex libris displays a sable (black) escutcheon with two bars, argent (silver). The coat of arms is charged with seven bees volant, three-over-three-over-one. The escutcheon is charged with a straight wreath and at the crest a demi-lion rampant. Around the neck of the lion is a coronet. Below the escutcheon appears a banner containing the originators Latin motto. The verso of the ex libris is faintly marbled. 148. [Bookplate for Sir Lawrence Palk by Ezekiel Abraham Ezekiel] In black ink: Sable, an argent eagle displayed, an argent bordure engrailed ; at the precise middle chief, the inesceutcheon of a baronet (argent, a hand gules) ; surmounted by a wreath of argent and sable, the crest a demi-globe or hemisphere ['semi-terrestrial globe of the northern hemisphere'], an eagle rousant, wings displayed and elevated ; motto on a ribbon below the shield. The bottom right corner of the bookplate was torn away and has been replaced with a light paper. 149. [Bookplate for Francis Henry Wilkinson] In black, red, blue, green, orange, and gold ink. Escutcheon parted per cross. First and fourth quarter, gules, parted per fess, vair, azure and argent. Three unicorns, passant, two over one. Second quarter, gules, parted per fess, or, with three annulets, azure. Three crosses, patée fitched, or, two over one. Third quarter, gules, a spur, or. A chief, argent, partition line, or, with three cocks, erased, gules. Vizored helm of an esquire or gentleman above the escutcheon, with tasseled mantling. Above the helm is a curved crest wreath with a demi-talbot, sajant, holding in one paw a rose, stalked leaved and seeded. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the Latin motto. 150. [Bookplate for Godfrey G. Roundell Greene by W. and A. Mussett - The Heraldic Studio] In brown ink, escutcheon divided quarterly. The first and fourth quadrants divided per pale, or (gold) and azure (blue), three stags trippant, two over one, all counter changed. The second and third quadrants, or, with a fess, gules (red) between three olive branches, two over one. Atop the escutcheon is a helmet with mantling, below a demi-dragon crest, azure, gorged, argent (silver). 151. [Bookplate for English Church Union Theological Library] In the centre of this textual bookplate is a crest depicting a religious figure, crowned and seated on a throne. In his right hand he holds a chalice, and in his left a cross topped sceptre. To the left of the throne is a flowering bush, and below it is a small cross formy and the word "FIDAS" ("faith" in latin). To the right of the throne is the skeleton of a bush, flowerless, and below it is the word "INFIDELITAS" ("infidelity" in latin). At the base of the throne is an unknown latin phrase. 152. [Bookplate for William Morgan by J. F. McCardell] Pictorial bookplate. Surrounding the text is an ornate border with ivy vines and a crest. An angel and shield are at the centre of the crest. The shield has a chevron adorned with three bees. The rest of the shield is decorated with ploughs and a cross. An inscription surrounds the crest and reads: "Cantuariensis 1853 Sigillum Provincia." At the bottom of the crest is a ribbon with "libr, prov, aour" written on it. At the bottom right is "J.F. McCardelt, Delt." and on the bottom left is "Lake and East lith. Ch. Ch." 153. [Bookplate for Holford Walker] Pictured in black ink on white paper, is a bird close enclosed within a serpent ouroboros on a crest wreath with mantling extending from it, above a shield argent (silver) ; a bordure, argent ; with eleven quaterings. 154. [Bookplate for Maurie Barrett] Printed in black ink on beige paper, with a glued back. The image is a version of the crest of the Arms of Canada. It shows a crowned lion atop a larger crown, with mouth open and tongue extended. The lion stands firm with his rear right leg forward as if indicating an intent to pounce. This position, with all four paws on the ground and head turned to face the viewer, is known as statant guardant. The lion's tail is flamboyant and resembles the mantling often found on heraldic bookplates. 155. [Bookplate for Gairdner] Printed in black ink on cream paper. In the centre of the bookplate, a family shield depicts an ‘X’ contained within a diamond, which is surrounded on all sides by eight trefoils with stems. At the top of the shield, a stylized iron helmet with a visor is framed on both sides by elaborate scrolling leaves. Above this, a demi-leopard is shown rampant (in profile, rearing, with its front paws in the air). Below the shield, a banner displays a motto in Latin. 156. [Bookplate for Dilys Jones] Printed in black ink on faded red paper. Heraldic crest is top centre. Text is surrounded by a thin black border. 157. [Bookplate for Thomas Troughton] Printed in black ink on white paper, in the upper left of the ex libris appears the crest of a lion erased issuing from a straight wreath. At the base of the lion's head is a veil sable with two pellet over one plate. To the right is the crest of a stag statant issuing from a straight wreath. Below the two crests appears a banner bearing the motto 'CARPE DIEM.' At the bottom of the ex libris appears the name of the owner, 'The Revd. Thomas Tronghton.'. 158. [Bookplate for Maurie Barrett] Printed in black ink on white paper, with a peel and stick feature. The image is a version of the crest of the Arms of Canada. It shows a crowned lion standing on a wreath, with mouth open and tongue extended. The lion holds aloft the maple leaf and looks out from his frame which is surrounded by more maple leaves in a double frame. The lion's position, with the dexter forepaw raised and head turned to face the viewer, is known as passant guardant. The lion's tail is flamboyant and resembles the mantling often found on heraldic bookplates. 159. [Bookplate for William Leaf] Printed in black ink, the book plate features the crest of William Leaf: A dove rising, resting the dexter claw on a leaf, on a torse. 160. [Bookplate for Langslow] Printed in brown ink on buff paper and encompassed in a decorative border with bugle horns in each corner. Bookplate features a heraldic achievement. Escutcheon, per pale, dexter sable and sinister gules. Lion rampant at fess, with three crosses, argent. A chief, argent, charged with a torteau between two bugle horns stringed. A closed helm, mantling, and torse. Crest, a spear issues erect from the helm, pendent a bugle horn stringed. Slogan or motto above crest. Below the escutcheon, the identification of the bookplate owner between two facing lions.
