[Bookplate for Beatrice Eleanor Paget by T&H Sc. and A. S.] This pictorial bookplate, created using brown ink on white paper, portrays Wilton House (Wilton, England) built during the 17th century and the seat of the Earl of Pembroke. It is believed that Sir Philip Sidney wrote Arcadia at Wilton House. The picture is framed with vertical columns and garlands. The creator of the bookplate is listed as [T & H / Sc. A.S.]. 122. [Bookplate for David King by B.] Pictorial bookplate. A floral border (in blue, red, and gold) surrounds the bookplate text. At the bottom are both the creator's initial "B" and publishing information (Ludgate Circus House, H.V. Capsey, London, E.C.4). 123. [Bookplate for Hugh Macdonald Sinclair] Appearing at the top is a motto AD ASTRA VIRTUS. Star crest on a wreath sits on top of a gentleman's vizored helm with mantling. Bordure of shield has stars from the base to the dexter side and from the chief to the sinister side. Quarterly field has a lion rampant (meaning: masculinity, leadership, royalty, justice and strength) near the sinister chief and near the dexter base, and a unknown symbol on the dexter chief, and a ship (meaning: voyage, salvation, and seafaring) on the sinister base. Appearing at the bottom of the bookplate is another motto J'AIME LE MEILLEUR. 124. [Bookplate for Emil Eerme and A. Lavdovsky by Z. Dolatowski] In green and black ink, abstract image of what appears to be a highway interchange network. 125. [Bookplate for Hotchkiss School] Black ink on white paper. Thin border made up of very small parallel lines surrounds text. 126. [Bookplate for British Association for the Advancement of Science] Red and black ink on white paper. Coat of arms at top. Quartered shield shows English rose, Scottish thistle, Irish clover and Canadian beaver. Text in a bordered circle around shield. Cursive text below. Contributors include British Association. 127. [Bookplate for Dezsgyessy Bottlik, Margit Bottlik, and J. E. Horvath] Black ink on light grey inked background. A woman looks at rose that she holds on her right hand. She is wearing a long dress with a black bodice and bouffant white sleeves. The skirt has a flower pattern and the underskirt is white with a bottom ruffle. She sits on a sofa covered with big cushions with different patterns. One of the cushions comes out of the image frame. There is a window behind the figure with plant on the sill. The text boxes above and below the image are adorned with garlands. The artist seal with the initials RS is on the lower left corner. 128. [Bookplate for Laszlo Zilahi and J. E. Text appears above and below university shield which is set on a dark background. 130. [Bookplate for University of British Columbia Library] Grey ink on cream paper. Text appears above and below university shield, which is set on a dark background. 131. [Bookplate for Vancouver Medical Association] Text surrounded by a simple double border. Donor information is typewritten. 132. [Bookplate for Y. Hoffmann and J. E. Horvath] In black ink, this small bookplate includes what appears to be an abstract letter 'H'. 133. [Bookplate for R. W. Urwin by Diocese of Durham] At the top of this bookplate, above the text, is the arms of the bishopric of Durham. The escutcheon is azure (blue), and contains an or (gold) cross patonce. Each quadrant of the cross contains a lion rampant. On top of the shield is a bishop's mitre. As the Bishops of Durham were formerly princes of the Palatinate of Durham, this mitre has the unique distinction of also including a ducal coronet which provides for greater heraldic distinction. The bookplate is in letterpress with handwritten inserts. 134. [Bookplate for Bateman by Orlando Jewitt] This bookplate consists of an or (gold) escutcheon, on which are three etoile topped crescents, two over one. There is also an additional smaller crescent located at the precise middle chief of the escutcheon. According to heraldic symbolism, the crescent represents the second son. On top of the shield is a helmet in profile, beaver open. Atop the helmet is a curved crest wreath and another etoile topped crescent. The crest also includes a vol (set of wings), erect, and mantling which pours down the sides of the shield. Below the shield is a banner containing the Latin motto. The image and text are framed by a thin single line border. 135. [Bookplate for Edmund F. Bourke by T. Welch] This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon quartered per cross. The dexter chief and sinister base sections contain a gules (red) cross on an or (gold) background. At the dexter chief of each cross is a lion rampant. The dexter base and sinister chief sections are each divided per pale, with an argent (silver) dexter side and a gules (red) sinister side. In the middle of these two sections is a lion rampant surrounded by three fleur-de-lis, two over one. Sitting atop the shield on a curved crest wreath is a cat guardant with leash. Below the shield is a banner containing the Latin motto. 136. [Bookplate for Hudson's Bay Company and Gordon Elliott] In purple ink, text within a round indented border. 137. [Bookplate for Robert Butts by B. Cole] This elaborate chippendale bookplate consists of an escutcheon, parted per pale. First, the dexter side, azure (blue) and charged with three etoile, two over one, and a chevron, or (gold) with three lozenges, gules (red). Second, the sinister side, azure, is charged with three talbots' heads two over one, erased, and a bar, or, with three cross pattee, argent (silver). The shield is crested by a curved wreath and a unicorn's head, muzzled. The escutcheon is surrounded by a mass of asymmetrical wave-like mantling and flora. 138. [Bookplate for Earl Gower by Griffiths and Weigall] This heraldic bookplate consists of a escutcheon, divided per cross or quarterly. Quarters one and four are argent (silver) with bars, gules (red) and charged with a cross patonce, sable (black). Quarters two and three are azure (blue) charged with leaves, two over one. The escutcheon is supported by two wolves rampant. Upon the escutcheon is a crown of earl status (minus the internal cap). Above the escutcheon is a crest of a wolf passant upon a straight wreath. Below the escutcheon is a banner with Latin motto within. 139. [Bookplate for Charles Girdlestone] In black ink, this bookplate consists of the image of a church. A plate mark can be seen along the left hand side of the bookplate. 140. [Bookplate for Charles Girdlestone] In black ink, this bookplate consists of text surrounded by a floral border.
