[Bookbinder's Tickets] 1) In black ink on cream paper, the ticket consists of an escutcheon with an elaborate base, bearing the name, services, and location of the company. A diadem bears the crest of a Gryphon salient armed, gules, holding an escutcheon Argent, a garter, gules. The escutcheon is surrounded by smoke-like dark shading and the whole is surrounded by a thin black border. 2) In black ink on light blue or gray paper, the ticket consists of an elaborate coin or medallion with trefoils in the four corners, bearing the name and services of the company. An escutcheon in the center of the medallion bears the address of the business. The blunted corners of the ticket result in an octagonal shape. 2. [Bookplate by Eiichi Hirose] The central image is of the red and black outline of a face used in a Japanese mask possibly used for Kabuki. The face is located towards the right side of the bookplate. The face is used for a demon called an Oni. A bamboo flute done in a light brown lies to the lower left side of the bookplate. It has some Kanji writing symbols as well as a few cherry blossom petals. 3. [Bookplate by M. Trinque] This bookplate includes both a pictorial image and a heraldic symbol. The image, in black ink, depicts three soldiers in the process of laying communications cable. One soldier holds the spool of cable, another cuts the cable with pliers, and the third soldier keeps a look-out, rifle on back. The heraldic symbol, in coloured ink, contains an escutcheon divided per fess by an engrailed line. The top half is a dark shade of azure, while the bottom half is a light shade of azure. The escutcheon includes a sinister bend of blue, white, and red, representing the French flag. From the dexter chief to the sinister base are three fleur-de-lis. On the top of the shield is a torch, possibly representing Operation Torch, the Allied invasion of French North Africa during World War II. On both the right and left sides of the shield are signal flags, providing more indication that this coat of arms belongs to a communications unit. The left flag is a small red square within a larger white square, and the right flag is the reverse. At the base of the shield is a ribbon containing four stars. Below the image, there is space for entering a name of ownership, but it has been left blank. 4. [Bookplate for A. Gedeon and J. E. Horvath by M. B.] Light green, blue and blank ink. Wolf howling at a crescent moon. 5. [Bookplate for Annie M. Angus by Lionel Haweis] A combination of textual and pictorial bookplate created with black ink on ivory paper. Image consists of a stained glass background framed (from inside out) in a thin light frame, dark medium frame, and a light ribbon frame. A candlestick with a large lit candle is overlaid with a large stylised letter A. Midway on the candlestick rests an open book, which overlays the monogrammed A. On the left page of the book is a stylised letter A and on the right page of the book is the letter M. At the bottom of the image is a shelf of books. 6. [Bookplate for Barbara Joyce Chandler] In dark blue ink on light blue paper. Primary bookplate design consists of a ship crested upon waves, with three figures within. The figures are young girls, two reading books and the other holding a book. Beneath the waves is bookplate text, with small illustrations of a castle, knight and fish. 7. [Bookplate for David Russell Jack] Black ink on cream paper with shiny surface. The crest features an armoured arm clutching a sword extending from a crest-wreath. Below is an esquires helm, from which extends mantling on either side. The mantling is light on top and darkens to black at the bottom. The shield is has a chevron with thin, horizontal, black lines. Above the chevron, the shield is charged with two crescent moons with the points facing upwards. Below the chevron, the shield is charged with the same arm from the crest, in this case tilted 90 degrees so that the arm is horizontal. While the crest arm holds a straight sword, the shield arm is holding a sword with a curved blade. Below the shield, the motto is printed in capitalized, black, block serif font on a curling ribbon. Underneath the motto, the bookplate owner’s name is printed in larger, black, sentence case cursive font. A second line features the date printed in smaller, thin, stylized black font. 8. [Bookplate for Dezsgyessy Bottlik, Margit Bottlik, and J. E. Horvath] Black ink on light grey inked background. A woman looks at rose that she holds on her right hand. She is wearing a long dress with a black bodice and bouffant white sleeves. The skirt has a flower pattern and the underskirt is white with a bottom ruffle. She sits on a sofa covered with big cushions with different patterns. One of the cushions comes out of the image frame. There is a window behind the figure with plant on the sill. The text boxes above and below the image are adorned with garlands. The artist seal with the initials RS is on the lower left corner. 9. [Bookplate for Dr. Bruggaier and Michael B. Kunze] In black ink, the greater part of the area of the image is taken up by a large capital E, which forms the 'e' in 'ex libris'. Within the upper and lower horizontals of the E is an image of a cross on a triangular shape, which symbolizes a steeple. Surrounding the upper part of the cross are lines which indicate light radiating from the cross. 10. [Bookplate for E. W. Neville by Marjorie Sankey] In black ink on yellow/brown paper. The elaborate façade of a building is held up by a large tree with many roots. The owner’s name is featured in the gate entrance. The thick paper features chain and laid lines. 11. [Bookplate for Edith Dair and Carl Dair] A man, bare-chested stands on a rocky outcropping, holding a book in his hand, balanced against his thigh. Light streams from above. Chestnut coloured ink on cream background. Originators' names in black type. 12. [Bookplate for Emil Eerme and A. Lavdovsky by O. Kubse] Night scene of human figure seated and reading in front of a tree by the light of the moon. An owl sits on a branch near the top of the tree, outlined by the moon. Another tree is present in the background. Text appears along right side and bottom. Image is set in a double border. 13. [Bookplate for Emmanuel Church Sunday School] Black ink on cream paper. Floral border surrounds text. Includes one hand-written identification number and rubber-stamped date, both in black ink. A light “X” is drawn across the plate in pencil. 14. [Bookplate for Erich Falfenroth and Michael B. Kunze by F. Nickel] In brown ink, a sun radiates light over the background of the image from the top left corner. Included in the background is a crescent moon in the top right corner, an hourglass, in the lower left corner, and a compass in the lower right corner. In the foreground is a chaplet encircling a coat of arms. Atop the helm is a bird, possibly a falcon. The helm itself is front facing and grated (no significance in German heraldry). From either side of the helmet flow elaborate sprawls of mantling which curl down to the sides of the escucheon. The escucheon, in gules, (red) represented by lines drawn from chief to the base, is bordered in or (gold). Centered in the shield is a heavily bound book, with what appear to be latches to prevent unworthy eyes from reading its contents. From the top and bottom of the book flow a place marking ribbon. 15. [Bookplate for Frank Louis Flight] In light gray ink. A banner with the name of the owner and a small, circular, profile portrait are displayed on a background of vines. The stylized flora seems inspired by the late Nineteenth-century work of William Morris and others. 16. [Bookplate for Frederick Starr] Small square woodblock print in four colours. In black, pink, red, and light khaki ink. Bookplate is sectioned into three, with the left and bottom sections with Japanese characters. Primary images featured are three Okame masks. 17. [Bookplate for Goodwin's Limited] A decorative border is printed in green ink. Inside at the top left is the Goodwin's script logo "G" on a maple leaf printed in green ink. Text is printed in black ink and three fonts, including the Goodwin's Limited logo script. There is a tear in the bottom right corner and a light "X" drawn across the plate in pencil. 18. [Bookplate for Harry Miller] Brown ink. The initials 'H.M.' are formed out of sticks of wood. Perched atop the letter "H" is a bespectacled owl with a feather tucked behind its ear. It reads by the light of a lamp of knowledge. 19. [Bookplate for Heinz von der Linden and Michael B. Kunze] Black ink on tan paper. Crest of gules rooster stands on a barred helmet in profile. Shield is quartered. Upper left quarter shows four or and three sable bars. Remaining three quarters each display a crescent moon. Light mantling. Text at top and bottom. 20. [Bookplate for Henry Young and Alice Young by Joseph Winfred Spenceley] In black ink on beige paper. In the centre, standing on the name plate, is the image of knight crusader, holding with outstretched arms a broad ribbon inscribed with the word "Credo." His Norman pointed shield hangs in front of his sword from a strap at his left hip ; the charges, untinctured, are: barry of five, in canton a leopard contournd. At either side of him rises a large acanthus-like scroll surmounted by a leopard's head ; behind him hangs an arras curtain, draped and knotted at the top. Across the base ripples a ribbon, inscribed "Ex libris Henry and Alice Young."
