[Bookplate] The text is surrounded by a simple lined border. The text "de L’Académie Commerciale Catholique" is in a Gothic script. 62. [Bookplate for Robert A. Harrison] Black ink on cream paper. Crest features a demi-lion rampant on the top part of a castle tower. The lion is wearing a crown and holding a floral wreath in its paws. There is a gentlemen and esquire’s helm surrounded by elaborately curling sable and argent mantling that extends out to each side and tapers down to the base of the bookplate. Shield is sable and charged with three demi-lions rampant, two over one. The lions are wearing crowns. The motto is below the shield printed in capitalized block white letters on a banner with curling ends. The bookplate owner’s name is printed in black, gothic sentence-case font at the bottom of the bookplate. 63. [Bookplate for J. W. Longley by Francis Adams Sc.] Black ink on white paper. The crest features an arm grasping a dagger. The blade of the dagger has pierced the head of a bearded man that resembles a lion head. The arm is atop a crest-wreath. The wreath sits on a flower with a round center and 5 petals. To strips extend out of the flower across the front and back of a ribbon, connecting to the top of the shield. The ribbon extends straight out with curling ends. The motto is printed on the ribbon in black, capitalized, serif font. Shield is ermine with a black bend. Bend charged with three cheetah heads. The shield features a sinister canton paly. Underneath the shield, the bookplate owner’s name is printed in large, black, sentence case, gothic font. More text is printed below the name in smaller, black, capitalized, serif font. 64. [Bookplate for David Russell Jack] Black ink on cream paper with shiny surface. The crest features an armoured arm clutching a sword extending from a crest-wreath. Below is an esquires helm, from which extends mantling on either side. The mantling is light on top and darkens to black at the bottom. The shield is has a chevron with thin, horizontal, black lines. Above the chevron, the shield is charged with two crescent moons with the points facing upwards. Below the chevron, the shield is charged with the same arm from the crest, in this case tilted 90 degrees so that the arm is horizontal. While the crest arm holds a straight sword, the shield arm is holding a sword with a curved blade. Below the shield, the motto is printed in capitalized, black, block serif font on a curling ribbon. Underneath the motto, the bookplate owner’s name is printed in larger, black, sentence case cursive font. A second line features the date printed in smaller, thin, stylized black font. 65. [Bookplate for Dunbar of Westfield by C. Norton] This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon, divided per cross, the upper half gules (red) and or (gold), the lower half or and gules. Each quarter consists of a border ; quarter 1 and 4 are bordered with argent (silver) and heraldic roses, and charged with a lion rampant. Quarters 2 and 3 have a narrow border decorated by trefoil, charged with three round figures apiece. The escutcheon is supported by two lions rampant at dexter and sinister. Above the escutcheon is a steel helmet, placed three-quartered (indicating esquire status). Above the helmet is a crest of a dexter arm proper (bare) upon a wreath. From the helmet flows elaborate mantling. Above the crest are two crowns with the Latin motto above. Below the escutcheon and supporters is a banner with an additonal Latin motto within. 66. [Bookplate for Philip Southcote] In black ink, this bookplate consists of an elaborately bordered escutcheon, argent (silver), charged with a chevron, argent, three ducks, two over one and dexter, and an annulet at the precise middle chief. The annulet symbolizes the fifth son. The escutcheon is crested by a dexter closed helmet. Atop the helmet is a curved wreath and another duck, dexter. From either side of the crest flows elaborate mantling. 67. [Bookplate for Denis Le Marchant] In black ink. No Escutcheon. Ducal coronet, on top of which is an upside down cock leg. 68. [Bookplate for Paul Gouin] Black ink on cream paper. Border consisting of two thin black lines with solid black squares in the corners. Capitalized black serif-font written inside the border around an image. Image depicts a wooden house with a road in front. There are several clouds in the sky. There is a large tree in front of the side of the house, with the branches of another tree in the top right corner. The house has a wooden fence. In the foreground in the bottom right corner is grass. 69. [Bookplate for Sir George Frederick Samuel Robinson] This heraldic bookplate consists of a crest of a stag at gaze, which is upon a small version of a coronet of duke status. Surrounding the crest in a circular orientation is a garter of azure (blue), with French motto within. Surrounding the garter is a heraldic collar, with twelve roses (surrounded by circular garters with French motto within) at regular intervals. Upon the collar is a full version of a coronet of duke status, and immediately below the collar (as a pendant) is a rendering of the biblical event of St. George slaying the dragon. 70. [Bookplate for Basil Woodd Smith] In black ink, this bookplate consists of an ovular garter as bordure around the originator's name. The Latin motto is present on the garter. 71. [Bookplate for Edward Steane] This bookplate, in black ink, consists of a straight crest wreath, on top of which is a rock and eagle, wings addorsed and elevated. Below the crest is a banner containing the Latin motto. The image is bordered by a single line frame. 72. [Bookplate for Edward Steane] This simple textual bookplate contains the originator's name in black ink, and also includes the location. Slight discolouration of text on surname. 73. [Bookplate for Francis Fortescue Knottesford] In black ink. This bookplate consists of an escutcheon parted per pale. The first pale is parted per quarter. Quarters one and four are azure (blue), a bend engrailed, or (gold), coticed, argent (silver). Quarters two and three are argent, cross engrailed, gules (red), in canton cinquefoil, azure (blue). The second pale is parted per quarter, in quarter one, a barry of eight, argent and vert (green), charged with a gryphon, rampant, segreant. Quarter two is argent, with a chevron, ermine, fimbrated sable (black), with two canons placed two over one around the chevron. Quarter three is argent, with a chevron, sable, charged with a bird displayed. Quarter four is azure charged with a lion rampant. Above the escutcheon is a straight wreath charged with a tyger passant atop a peer helmet. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing text. 74. [Bookplate for John Caton Thompson] In black ink on white paper, this bookplate consists of a shield parted per pale, baron and femme, three coats ; first, or, a bordure, argent, a lion rampant ; second, parted per fess, sable, on a chevron argent, between three swans' heads, two over one, erased at the neck, ducally gorged, three pellet one over two ; in base (same as second) sable, on a chevron argent, between three swans' heads, two over one, erased at the neck, ducally gorged, three pellet one over two. Above a straight wreath, the crest of a lion rampant, ducally gorged. Below the shield, laurel sprigs. At the bottom of the ex libris appears the name 'John Caton Thompson.'. 75. [Bookplate for Lieutenant Colonel E. L. Caldwell] A simple line border surrounds the text. There are small circles framing each corner. 76. [Bookplate by University of British Columbia] The bookplate is a dedication bookplate recognizing a specific collection, as well as the benefactors that rendered it possible for The University of British Columbia to acquire it. The bookplate has no art, symbols, or colour on it, and appears to be only a dedication. 77. [Bookplate by University of British Columbia] The text of the bookplate is framed by 3 black fillets in a rectangular form. On the left and right sides of the frame there are 6 palmetes and on the header and footer of the frame there are 9 palmetes. There are no colors or other decorations on the bookplate. 78. [Bookplate by University of British Columbia] A plain bookplate framed by two black fillets in a double rectangular frame. There are three seashells on the left and right side of the frame and six seashells on the top and bottom of the frame. 79. [Bookplate by University of British Columbia] The bookplate has set after the initial text of, "THE LIBRARY," the following shield. A grey box holding the UBC shield inside. The shield is set in black in white with a grey chief within which a book running from sinister chief to dexter chief with the words 'Tuum est' inscribed. Below exist three wavy lines on an argent field. In the base is a sun with six rays issuing from it. 80. [Bookplate by University of British Columbia] The bookplate has after the initial Text a picture based on a woodcut engraving of Vesalius, a classical anatomist. The picture is in an azure ink and shows a man pointing out various anatomical points of a human arm. This bookplate identifies books purchased as a collection by UBC Library from Dr. Hugh Macdonald Sinclair with funds provided by Harvey Reginald "H.R."
