[Bookseller's Ticket for J. T. Brousseau] A rectangular ticket, in black ink on blue paper. 2. [Bookseller's Ticket for J. T. Brousseau] Printed in black in on blue paper, this bookplate has an ornate border surrounding the text. 3. [Bookplates for Bell Telephone Company of Canada] This bookplate is in two parts ' one to show who made the presentation, the other to show ownership by the library. Part 1 (upper): This bookplate is composed of black text, with a dotted line at the bottom on which to record the name of the presenter. Part 2 (lower): This bookplate is composed of black text, with a small form number in the upper right, the major text with parts bolded, and a grid below that for recording due dates. Both of these pieces have an unused full glue coating on the back. 4. [Bookplate] This heraldic bookplate is printed on cream paper with dark brown ink, and consists of an escutcheon, sable (black), charged with three church bells, two over one. Above the escutcheon is a helmet at three quarters profile in esquire form, with mantling radiating from it. Above the helmet is a straight wreath crested by the head of a lion in profile. Below the crest is a banner, with Latin motto within. 5. [Bookplate for William Ralph Howard by Leslie Victor Smith] Black ink on cream colored paper. The image depicts a tall ship at sea with all sails unfurled, in a swell of water, with a large cumulous cloud in the background. The image is framed by a length of rope that circles the entire bookplate. Below, a heraldic device is displayed in a circular frame. A broken ionic order column is in the center, with the top half of the column resting on the right side of the base and an oval shield with a flower on it leaning on the left side of the base. At the bottom of the bookplate, the owner’s name is presented in a solid-colored shield. The rope frame meets at both sides of the shield: on the left, the rope holds an anchor and on the right it holds a ship lantern. 6. [Bookplate for Vincent Massey and Alice Massey by Alexander Scott Carter] Black ink on white paper. This coat of arms is described in great detail by the Royal Heraldry Society of Canada (RHSC), in their 'Members' Roll of Arms,' under the entry for the Rt. Hon. Charles Vincent Massey. They write: 'The arms argent [silver], on a chevron sable [black] between three lozenges of the last, each charged with a fleur de lis of the first, three stags' heads erased or [gold] ; on a canton azure [blue], a representation of the crest of Canada as an honourable augmentation. The crest out of an antique crown or, a bull's head sable, armed gold, charged on the neck with a lozenge argent, thereon a fleur de lis also sable.' This bookplate adheres to the design described above by the RHSC, though the 'honourable augmentation,' of the Canadian crest in dexter chief, does not appear in this escutcheon. 7. [Bookplate for Toronto Public Library by J. E. H. MacDonald] In brown ink on white paper, a boy and a girl are standing with their backs to each other in front of two shelves of books. Around the children are four circular images: a ship at sea, a knight holding a shield, a beaver, and a wheel and tools. 8. [Bookplate for Thomas Philip Earl de Gray] This heraldic bookplate is elaborately engraved in Chippendale style. The escutcheon is counterchanged per fess, its primary quarterings (at top left and bottom right) consisting of a barry of six, argent (silver) and azure (blue). The quarter at mid-top is vert (green), divided per chevron, or (gold). The quarter is also charged with three stags statant, two over one. The top left quarter is argent (silver), with a saltier, azure. The quarter is also charged with a roundlet, argent. The bottom left quarter is a gyrony of eight pieces, or and sable (gold). The quarter at mid-bottom is argent, divided per fess, gules (red) with a fillet in the lower part, azure. The quarter is also charged with three rings, gules on both the upper and lower parts. The Chippendale escutcheon is surrounded by two detailed dragons, the dexter supporter with its tailed nowed. Above the escutcheon is a coronet of earl status, and below the shield with Latin motto within. The owner's name is surrounded with elaborate borderwork, in the same style of wreath surrounding the shield. 9. [Bookplate for Stephen Langston] This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon parted per pale. On the left, or (gold), charged with a chevron, azure (blue). Above the chevron, are three heraldic roses in chief, and at centre base below the chevron a sea creature. On the right, the quadrant is parted per cross, with quarters two and four, or, vair in pale, azure. Quarters two and three are sable (black), parted per fess, argent (silver). The quarters are charged with three cinque foil, two over one. Above the escutcheon is a straight wreath charged with the sea creature at centre base at dexter and a rose bush. Below the escutcheon is a banner, with Latin motto within. 10. [Bookplate for St. Catherine Street Baptist Church] An ornate border surrounds the text, printed in black ink on pink paper. 11. [Bookplate for Sir Robert Peel] In black ink. Armorial bookplate. Argent (silver) three sheaves of as many arrows proper, banded gules (red). On a chief azure (blue) a bee volant, or (gold). Crest of a demi-lion rampant argent, gorged with a collar azure, charged with three bezants, holding between the paw a shuttle, or. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the Latin motto. 12. [Bookplate for Robert A. Harrison] Black ink on cream paper. Crest features a demi-lion rampant on the top part of a castle tower. The lion is wearing a crown and holding a floral wreath in its paws. There is a gentlemen and esquire’s helm surrounded by elaborately curling sable and argent mantling that extends out to each side and tapers down to the base of the bookplate. Shield is sable and charged with three demi-lions rampant, two over one. The lions are wearing crowns. The motto is below the shield printed in capitalized block white letters on a banner with curling ends. The bookplate owner’s name is printed in black, gothic sentence-case font at the bottom of the bookplate. 13. [Bookplate for R. H. Nisbet] Black ink on cream paper. A boar passant on a straight wreath, beneath which flies a banner with the family motto and the individual's name. 14. [Bookplate for Oeuvre des Bons Livres de Montreal] Printed in black ink on blue paper, an intricate border evocative of a tabernacle and constructed of fountains, geometric repeating patterns, and a cross surrounds the text. 15. [Bookplate for Oeuvre des Bons Livres de Montreal] Printed in black ink on cream paper, an intricate border evocative of a tabernacle and constructed of geometric repeating patterns. 16. [Bookplate for Oeuvre des Bons Livres de Montreal] Printed in black ink on cream paper, an intricate border evocative of a tabernacle and constructed of geometric repeating patterns topped with a cross surrounds the text. Above the text is a symbol featuring a cannon and two flags. 17. Three young boys respectively engaged in painting, drawing and sculpting are enclosed by a large circle, at the center of which lies an open book. The entire bookplate is surrounded by a multi-layered border. The artist's remarque is in the lower right hand corner of the border. 19. [Bookplate for Montreal Children's Library] Dark brown ink on brown paper. An image of a young boy and girl in a library with many books open and on the floor. The young girl reaches up to pull down a book from the top shelf while the boy sits cross-legged on the floor reading. 20. [Bookplate for McIntosh Art Gallery by Leslie Victor Smith] Black ink on cream paper. White ivy border over stippled black background. Names of John Gordon McIntosh and Wilhelmina Morris McIntosh inscribed on facing pages of book, behind which is a lit torch whose rays span out from the center of the plate.
