[Bookplate for Dorothy Maclaren Hepton by William Walker Alexander] Brown ink on cream paper. A plain border with a thin brown outline on the outside and thick brown outline on the inside. The image in the center of the bookplate is surrounded by a decorative background. The background has brown dots overlaid with thin white leaves on a stem. The stems curl around the left and right sides of the image. The image in the center is surrounded by a border comprised of three petaled leaves. At the top, bottom, left, and right of the border are two crossed strips covering the leaves. A dark inner border separates the decorative leaves from the center image. The image itself depicts two women sitting in an ancient Grecian scene. There is a building with arches in the left background. Next to the building, right behind the women is a large, shaded column. The foregrounded woman is sitting on a platform. Behind her is a small bowl of flowers. The same flowers decorate her dark hair in a floral crown. She is wearing a flowing white dress with a jewelry band around her right arm, which is holding onto her knees. At her feet is a lyre perched against another ledge. Behind the lyre is a dark, three-legged vessel with smoke pouring from it. There are some bushes behind the vessel and a plain horizon with a dark landscape and a pale sky. To the left of the vessel is a woman either standing or on her knees ; her legs are blocked from view by the sitting woman. The woman is playing a wind instrument, potentially an aulos. Her hair is in a half bun and half down. The ribbons in her hair are also flowing behind her head. Curling ribbons extend from below the image’s bottom border. A thicker ribbon rolls out below the ribbon. The bookplate owner’s name is printed in capitalized, serif font. Each word in the owner’s name is printed on its own line, with each line becoming increasingly indented. Two daisy flowers on stems are printed to the left of the last word in the owner’s name. 2. [Bookplate by Eiichi Hirose] The image is a box image of two houses, one, the lower house angling towards the lower left, overlapping the other which stands in the center of the page. The first house is coloured in beige and has writing within it. The second image has a brown colored background and a black outline of a horse is contained within it. 3. [Bookplate by Eiichi Hirose] The central image is of the red and black outline of a face used in a Japanese mask possibly used for Kabuki. The face is located towards the right side of the bookplate. The face is used for a demon called an Oni. A bamboo flute done in a light brown lies to the lower left side of the bookplate. It has some Kanji writing symbols as well as a few cherry blossom petals. 4. [Bookplate by Eiichi Hirose] A black outlined fan shaped segway, with the larger side facing to the left contains the central image of the bookplate. The central image is of a simple blue outline of Mt. Fuji, below which is a yellow baby chick (chicken) flapping its wings on a green ground. 5. [Bookplate by Eiichi Hirose] A red outline surrounds the central picture of the rock garden and reflection area in Ryoan-ji temple in Kyoto with the oil died wall in the background. Images have also been carved into the gravel. 6. [Bookplate by Eiichi Hirose] The picture is of a stone pillar amongst a garden with a yellow frame outline. The pillar has several symbols which represent the same image found on a 5 yen coin. There is a hole in the centre which holds water for a person to drink from using the yellow bamboo cup sitting on the top of the pillar. 7. [Bookplate for Jessie Hunter] A single black fillet surrounds the central image on the bookplate. Two banners sit above and below the central image of a large open book overlays a lighted oil lamp with two wicks on curved arms curling outwards from the central hub of the lamp. The lamp is sitting on the outline of a table. The images may imply that books bring awareness of the unknown. 8. [Bookplate for June Lauritzen by J. G.] A simple outline of a rose which has been hand-coloured with pink for the petals, green for the leaves and brown for the stem. 9. [Bookplate for Alice Ravenhill] Heraldic bookplate executed in black ink on white paper. The bookplate consists of a simple shield above which is a ribbon with the motto: "Candide et Constanter" (fairly and firmly). 10. [Bookplate for Victor W. Odlum] The bookplate depicts several images representing aspects of Odlum's life and is printed in black and red on white paper. At the top of the bookplate is the family crest depicting a crowned owl (a pun on the pronunciation of the family name) and the motto "Vita Est Vigila." Underneath that is the Canadian flag and then below this is a series of biographically significant images. From left to right: a Turkish flag ; crossed swords and dates he served in the Boer War, World War One and World War Two ; and an outline of Australia and a kangaroo. Below this series is an ancient Chinese character (Odlum's chop), a printing press ; and gardening tools, and books on shelves. 11. [Bookplate for Victor W. Odlum] The bookplate depicts several images representing aspects of Odlum's life and is printed in black and red on white paper. At the top of the bookplate is the family crest depicting a crowned owl (a pun on the pronunciation of the family name) and the motto "Vita Est Vigila." Underneath that is the Canadian flag and then below this is a series of biographically significant images. Below this series is an ancient Chinese character (Odlum's chop) and books. 12. [Bookplate for James Scott Howard] Black ink on cream paper. Crest features a ship’s steering wheel with stringy foliage extending from the left and leafy foliage extending from the right atop a crest-wreath. Shield is sable and party per fess. Top section is charged with a white cross in the center with a fleur-de-lis on either side. The bottom section is charged with a white ship steering wheel that is identical to the one in the crest. The motto is printed on curling ribbon below the shield in capitalized, serif, white block font with black outline. Below the motto, the bookplate owner’s name Is printed in sentence case, black, serif font. 13. [Bookplate for L. Emile Grothé by Aimé Dufesne] Black ink on white paper. Border has white outlines, shaded for a three-dimensional effect and is filled in with thin black lines. The top and bottom sides of the border indent in the middle with squared corners. The left and right sides of the border indent in the middle with rounded corners. The top half of the bookplate has diagonal black lines extending wider from the centre. The top left corner features a person wearing a feathered headdress and a sash holding arrows in their left hand and a bow in their right hand. They are standing on a decorative ledge connected to the border and sitting atop of an elaborate curlicue. The right corner has the same curlicue and ledge and a person in a long coat and striped hat holding a pouch stands atop it. Between the two figures is an open book. The bottom of the top half of the bookplate contains half a round map of the world surrounded by a thick border of the same style as the overall bookplate border. The owner’s motto is written across the map’s border in thin, capitalized, sans-serif font. A rectangular border of the same design sits in the centre of the bookplate. The top of the border features large, captitalized, serif block font. The font is white with a black background and white stripes surrounding that background. On either side of that text are half circle decorations in a vertical stack between two thin white borders. The centre of the rectangle within the borders has a grey background with capitalized, sans-serif block font printed on top. The font is black with a white outline and dark shading. Two shields hang below the rectangle on the left and right side. The shield on the left is argent with sable dots per fess. The top third of the crest is charged with two fleurs-des-lis. The central portion of the crest, featuring sable and argent stripes. is charged with a lion passant guardant. The bottom third of the crest is charged with three maple leaves with connected stems. The shield on the right is per pale consisting of sable and argent stripes and argent with sable dots. The left side is charged with two lions passant that are argent with sable dots. The right side is charged with a lion sejant erect and eight hearts, each of which are sable and argent striped. Between the two crests, hanging from the central rectangular feature, is a checkered black rectangle with white borders on the left, right, and bottom sides. White curlicues extend from the left and right sides. Similar curlicues, leafy decoration, and black strip adorned with small circles extend from the bottom of the rectangle. The background of the bottom half of the bookplate not covered with other decorative features has the same black stripes as the top half. In the bottom left and right corners of the bookplate are four books each, spines facing out. Next to the books on the left is a black inkwell with two feather quills in it. Next to the inkwell is a beehive on a wooden platform surrounded by five bees. On the right of the beehive is an oil lamp with a bright flame burning. Outside the bottom border, inside the indent, the bookplate creator’s name and date of creation is printed in thin, black, sentence-case, serif font. 14. [Bookplate for Roxie Jayne Gebhardt] Black ink on cream colored paper with an adhesive backing. A fine-line drawing of a tall ship at sea, with all sails unfurled and a British flag (Union Jack) flown as ensign at the stern. The ship sails on choppy waters. To the left, there is an outline of two clouds and three birds in the sky, along with a silhouette of another ship in the distance on the water. The entire drawing is framed by a black, thin-line border with no additional decorative detail. 15. [Bookplate for University of British Columbia and Alice Ravenhill] Black ink on white paper. The bookplate features a border consisting of several black lines with X designs in the corners. There is the University of British Columbia crest. The chief has a dark background and features an open book with its straps lying out. The university motto is printed in stylized black font on the book’s open pages. The bottom section of the map was alternating black and white lines. From the bottom of the shield is part of a sun with its rays extending upwards. The sun is charged with black dots. To the right of the shield is stylized gothic text in large, black font. Below it is text printed in smaller, cursive, black font.
