[Bookplate by Eiichi Hirose] The central image is surrounded by a grey rectangular frame within which is a white background. The image within the rectangle is a sideways fan shaped segway onto a view of Mt. Fuji with a blue sky in the background, several grey outlined yellow and pink shapes possibly representing flowers, trees, and a pastoral setting in the foreground. The large side of the fan is facing towards the left. 2. [Bookplate for Jac Balfour Paul Ado] Using black ink on white paper, the background of this pictorial bookplate portrays a window frame and windowsill. The top left side of the window is latticed, below which is an image of a rocky mountain and forest above which the sun is rising or setting. On the right side of the window frame is a shelf with three books. Leaning against the shelf is an unravelled scroll reading "In Soli / tudine / Solamen" [comfort in solitude]. Below this text is a lit lamp. On the windowsill are three figures. From left to right, the first figure is standing, nude and holding a comedy mask to its face. The second nude is sitting holding a cape over its shoulder (on the cape is a heraldic emblem: The shield is argent with a rampant lion). The third figure is sitting with its right leg crossed over the left leg, clothed in a judge/lawyer's wig, clothed in robes and holding a large open book in its lap. 3. [Bookplate for David L. G. Dryden] A yellow frame surrounds the central image. The central image is of a young man in medieval armour leading a white horse to the left of the image. The image is in a forest setting with several trees observable. Two notable trees are standing, one on the left, and one on the right side of the man providing a frame for the image. The entire scene is evocative of a Pre-Raphaelite painting. 4. [Bookplate for Elizabeth Rogers] This bookplate is executed in black ink on crème paper, and is rife with heraldic and pictorial imagery denoting peace, freedom, and benevolence. The center image is one of peace, as it contains a great tree spreading its branches over meadows and pastures under the rays of a setting or rising sun. This is flanked by standards bearing roses. The heraldic imagery is placed above the scene of peace, as if resting on the tree. A shield in the center contains a mullet over purple in the lower half, and roses over black in the upper half. It is topped by a closed helmet out of which springs what is most likely a fox. Underneath the image of peace are three French military medals for providing aid in times of war. 5. [Bookplate for Garnet Joseph Wolseley by Charles William Sherborn] This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon, argent (silver), charged with a talbot passant, gules (red), and a mullet above at centre chief. The escutcheon is supported by a wolf, rampant clutching swords at dexter and sinister. The escutcheon is set within a garter-like setting, from which various military medals hang. Above the escutcheon is a viscount coronet, sans the cap, with a grated helmet at three-quarters, further delineating the rank of viscount. Upon the helmet rests a ducal coronet, which is charged with a wolf's head. Behind the wolf is a small banner with first Latin motto within (the family motto of Wolseley of Wolseley, Co. Stafford, Barts.), and below the supporters and escutcheon is a second banner, with second Latin motto within (the family motto of Wolseley of Mount Wolseley, Co. Carlow, Barts.), along with a larger banner with bookplate owner's name and title. Elaborate mantling radiates from the helmet, and the entire bookplate is encased in a ribbed border. 6. [Bookplate for James Bruce MacKinnon] Black ink. A straight wreath is charged with a boar's head, erased, holding a deer's shank bone in its mouth. Below the boar's head waves a banner containing the MacKinnon family motto. 7. [Bookplate by Colonist Lithography] In black ink on cream paper. The top center contains the coat of arms, flanked by elaborate leafy scrollwork. In the center is text in multiple bold fonts identifying the book number and library number (with gray rectangles where these numbers were handwritten). The bottom third contains the small text rules. Surrounding everything are two thin borders, between which, on the bottom edge, is the name of the lithographer. 8. [Bookplate for Catholic Commercial Academy of Montreal, Wm Price, and U. E. Archambault by Geo. E. Desbarats] Black ink on white paper. The border of the bookplate comprises three layers: the outermost is an abstract floral motif on the four corners ; secondly is a geometric pattern of triangles ; the innermost layer is a plain line. Curlicues surround the words “Catholic” and “of Montreal.” The bookplate is a pre-printed form with space for the prize name, winner, year and date to be filled out. 9. [Bookplate for Hopital Général d’Ottawa] Black ink on cream paper. The bookplate features a border consisting of thick, black wavy lines with arrows on the ends of each line pointing towards the corner. Each corner has three diamonds shaped in a triangle. Inside the border, there is a circular image with a border of two interwoven black wavy lines. Inside that border is capitalized text printed in bold, black, sans serif front. In the center of the circle is a cross coming out of the ground wrapped in vines. Above and below the cross are two ribbons with mottos printed in capitalized, black, sans serif front.
