[Bookplate for J.G. Grieve by William Walker Alexander] Black ink on cream paper. Border features two parallel thin black lines on the outside with a thicker black line for the inner border. The upper-right hand corner has a microscope in profile against a sun with radiant rays. The microscope sits on a striped platform that tapers down to a point. In the upper-left hand corner is an oil lamp with a burning flame sitting on the same striped, tapered platform. In the centre of the two images is a rectangle with an indented top half. A white border surrounds black and white stripes of inconsistent length. Printed, capitalized, serif black text is printed on top. Below is a scene of a desk in a corner. There are two paintings, one on each wall. The one on the left is a nature scene and the one on the right is a landscape with a house and natural elements. On the right of the second painting is a vertical calendar for December 1963 listing Sunday the 24th to Saturday the 30th. The desk has drawers on both sides and one in the centre, all with handles. On top of the desk in the foregrounded left side is a black telephone sitting face down in the retriever. Behind the phone is a tall, thin plant in a white, hour-glass shaped pot. Next to the plant is a lamp with a short, wide, curved shade. In the centre of the back of the desk are four books, spines facing out, between two bookends. To the right of the books is a tall, thin vase with a scalloped edge holding several leafy flowers. To the right of that vase, in the right corner of the desk, is an analogue clock set in an upright square. The clock is set to approximately 4:05. Foregrounded in the right corner of the front of the desk is a book open to the title page. Across the bottom of the bookplate is a banner with curled ribbon ends. On the banner is stylized gothic font. Below the banner is a decorative row of leaves. In the bottom left hand corner is a small white patch with initials printed in black ink. Handwritten note in pencil on the verso. 22. [Bookplate for T. S. Estcourt by William Haskoll] This chippendale style bookplate consists of an escutcheon, ermine (white powdered fur with black tufts), with a chief, or (gold) and indented. The chief contains 3 mullets, sable (black). The crest consists of an unidentifiable bird, erased and displayed with wings inverted, upon a curved crest wreath. The escutcheon is surrounded by elaborate floral mantling. 23. [Bookplate for University of British Columbia] The bookplate has an image of garden gates below a hedge with the image of a cony set at the top of the gate. An image of the Lion's Gate bridge is placed below the gate and an image of the Lion's mountains is above the gate. The picture is representative of "Q" house owned in West Vancouver. 24. [Bookplate for Gordon Elliott] In blue ink on white paper, text within a single blue line border. 25. [Bookplate for Mary Cleghorn] This bookplate features a squirrel and leaf design motif, and artistically relies heavily on positive and negative space. Bookplate text is aligned top mid-right, and two block floral borders are places above and below the primary image. Artists' mark, possibly reading 'R.T.P.' is at bottom right. 26. [Bookplate] In brown ink on white or cream paper, the bookplate consists of a thin border surrounding brown text, with the name of the company/library in a Roman-style font. 27. [Bookplates for Bell Telephone Company of Canada] This bookplate is in two parts ' one to show who made the presentation, the other to show ownership by the library. Part 1 (upper): This bookplate is composed of black text, with a dotted line at the bottom on which to record the name of the presenter. Part 2 (lower): This bookplate is composed of black text, with a small form number in the upper right, the major text with parts bolded, and a grid below that for recording due dates. Both of these pieces have an unused full glue coating on the back. 30. [Bookplate for Goodwin's Limited] A decorative border is printed in green ink. Inside at the top left is the Goodwin's script logo "G" on a maple leaf printed in green ink. Text is printed in black ink and three fonts, including the Goodwin's Limited logo script. There is a tear in the bottom right corner and a light "X" drawn across the plate in pencil. 31. [Bookplate for High School of Quebec] Printed in black ink on cream paper, a simple geometric border of diamonds surrounds the text printed in multiple fonts. 32. [Bookplate for Aubrey F. Roberts by Bank B. Gordon] Executed in brown ink on white paper, this bookplate depicts a picture frame in which stand several books with their spines facing outwards. In front of these is an open book leaning against a globe of the world. In the background of the frame is a stairway ascending a steep hill upon which is a heavily turreted castle and trees. Resting on top of the frame is a vase or urn containing an abundance of leaves, and it is supported by a mantle fronted with wings. 33. [Bookplate for Pretre L. Bertrand] An ornate border of foliage, flowers, ribbons, and musical instruments surrounds the text. Below the printed text is a manuscript note. The back of the bookplate is covered in marbling, presumably lifted from a book when the bookplate was removed. 34. [Bookplate for Imperial Cotton Co. by R&M] Printed in black ink on cream coloured paper. The scene depicts dark-skinned laborers working in a cotton field. In the right-hand side of the foreground, a laborer holds a large wicker basket full of cotton on their head. To the left are two other large wicker baskets full of cotton. At least four other laborers recede into the depth of the field. They wear loose, baggy clothing and wide-brimmed hats. In the background is a wide, low brick factory building with smokestacks on the far left and one low, square tower with a flag in the middle. Below this scene is the insignia of the Dominion Crown and the text identifying the Imperial Cotton Co. 35. [Bookplate for W. Gordon Mills] In black ink on cream paper. This image depicts a nighttime scene with a single star in the sky and two evergreen trees silhouetted in front of a lake and mountains. Superimposed upon this landscape, a lyre sits next to a scroll which reads "Sonata Apassionata" (sic) and has notes from the score. The initial "M" is in the lower right hand corner as a possible signature. 36. [Bookplate for Martha Gold Morgan] In black ink on textured paper. At the top of the bookplate, appears a small image of a lion's head, erased, crowned and charged on a straight wreath. The lion's head, set on a white coin above a scroll with the Morgan motto, is the traditional badge of the clan. Two flowers flank the lion motif and one appears centered below the bottom compartment. These designs are set on a background displaying the silhouette of a tree and wind-blown leaves. Morgan's name is written in large black print on white background. 37. [Bookplate for Chs-Ed. Parrot] Red ink on white paper. Consisting only of text, the owner's name and location are surrounded by a border. Exposure to water has cause the ink to smudge. 38. [Bookplate for Alexander Fawcett Reid] In black ink on white paper with visible chain and laid lines, a decorative border surrounds the image of a ship. 39. [Bookplate for Nancy Stuart Reid] In black ink on white paper with visible chain and laid lines, two children sit reading under a tree. The paper also includes a watermark: 'NADA / Byron'. 40. [Bookplate for Margaret M. Howard by Leslie Victor Smith] Black ink on textured cream colored paper. The image depicts a tall ship at sea with all sails unfurled, listing to the right in a swell of water. The ship is contained within a circular border containing four quatrefoil points. Above, the phrase ‘Ex Libris’ is displayed within a scrolled banner across the top of the bookplate and the circle is framed by hanging garlands of varied types of flowers and ribbons. Below, a shelf depicts a row of bound books that part at the middle, with a blank sheet of paper and a feather quill resting in an inkwell. Below this, ‘Margaret M.
