[Bookplate for Union College of British Columbia] Black ink on white paper. Coat of arms at top. The chief is charged with a demi-sun in spendour. The rest of the escutcheon is charged with a cross. Quarter one is charged with a dove, quarter two an open book, quarter three a tree and quarter four a globe and staff. Text below. 222. [Bookplate for Christ Church S.S. Library] Black ink on white paper. Text surrounded by thin border. 223. [Bookplate for York University] Red ink of white paper. York University shield at centre. Text at top and bottom. The shield is charged with a leaved tudor rose, and has a chief charged with two lions passant guardant. 224. [Bookplate for Cariboo College] Black ink on white paper. Text at top and bottom. Geometrical star shape in centre. 225. [Bookplate for L. Farkas and J. E. Horvath by K. J.] Line drawing done in black ink on tan paper. Two plant pots with thorny vines at the at bottom of the image, one is standing and one is laying down. The vine from the standing pot, a rose vine, extends to the upper edge where it forms a frame around an open book with the letters A B C and children toys. The middle of the drawing displays a book with a rosary and flowers behind it. The text starts above the flowers, continues between the book and the plant pots, ending under the plant pots. A small round seal with the initals RS is displayed at the bottom left corner of te bookplate. 226. [Bookplate for Bessie Ruth and J. E. Horvath] Black ink on tan paper. The illustration in this bookplate is divided in to 9 parts framed with flowers and other decoration. The central section contains the text, with two columns on the top and a monogram and date at the bottom. In the remaining 8 sections putti are depicted playing a variety of musical instruments. 227. [Bookplate for Rozsnyay and J. E. Horvath] Grey ink on buff paper. This bookplate depicts a monkey holding with feet and hands the scuplture of standing monkey. The figures in this high contrast image are created by large blank areas and using the grey inked areas for the background and dark details. Two block of text, also in negative, are located at the top and bottom of the image. 228. [Bookplate for Geoffrey Christian and Michael B. Kunze] This image portrays, in black ink, on white paper, three books, one open and two lying stacked on their sides in front of the open book. In front of the three books is a large black inkwell containing a quill. The inkwell sits upon a manuscript. The manuscript has a seal on it. The image is set on a black background, with a curved top. 229. [Bookplate for Familie Mezler and Michael B. Kunze] In black ink, an unusual heraldic symbol with a helmet in the centre of the image. Protruding from the top of the helm are what appear to be two horns. Between the horns is the figure of a woman whose hands grasp the horns. From both side of the helm, and from below, flows extensive mantling flowing out and down framing another image of a woman, identical to the first, except that her skirt is now visible. 230. [Bookplate for Gerhard Haubold and Michael B. Kunze] Image of three ichthus (a symbol of two intersecting arcs that represent a fish) that meet at the centre. The text fills the space in north, south-west, and south-east parts of the image. 231. [Bookplate for Dalhousie University Library] Black ink on white paper. Shield is supported by two dragons rampant. On the shield is an eagle displayed. Above the crown the crest is a unicorn couped in profile. Motto and other text below. 232. [Bookplate for Ödön Stern and J. E. Horvath by B. I.] Black ink on cream paper. This bookplate combines Art Deco and Egyptian style and imagery. The black ink provides the background with most of the objects delineated in white from the paper. A figure in profile to walks towards the right of the scene holding high three books in offering. Behind the figure there is a curtain with a weaved pattern. Further back on the right hand side there is a vase with flowers, and two urns. One sits on the floor. Fire rises from the second one on a stand. 233. [Bookplate for Antonii Steiner and J. E. Horvath by K. M. S.] A central panel with the ownership text is surrounded by mantling that comes out of a vase at the bottom. Flanking the ownership panel there are two figures, one holding a scale and the second one holding a stack of books. Entwined in the mantling on the top there are a lyre and a globe. The top of the bookplate is crowned with a rising sun. 234. [Bookplate for I. O. Körner and J. E. Horvath by K. M. S.] A central panel with the ownership text is surrounded by mantling that comes out of a vase at the bottom. Flanking the ownership panel there are two figures holding books at each side. Hanging from the mantling on the bottom are a drum and lyre, and surrounding the top are various animals. The top of the bookplate is crowned with a globe. 235. [Bookplate for Thomae Perczel de Bonyhad and J. E. Horvath] The shield occupying the centre of the bookplate is quartered with rampant lions queue fourché on the dexter chief and sinister base, bendlets on the dexter base and a bend on the sinister chief. Two young figures act as supporters ; the one on the left holds an open book while gazing towards the sinister supporter. The shield and figures rest on an ornate panel with the ownership text. A heavy curtain is draped on top and to the left of the shield and behind it a book case is visible. At the bottom of the bookplate it is noted that the image is a reproduction of an old engraving (Nach einem alten Stich). 236. [Bookplate for Cornelia Anthony] In black ink, this bookplate presents us with a homestead scene of a hearth and mantle. Above the mantlepiece is a shelf of books. On the mantle is a teapot in between two displayed plates. Placed on the floor at the base of the hearth is a spinning wheel. On either side of it are a large set of candlesticks. The entire image is bordered by a frame of teacups and saucers. 237. [Bookplate for John Buckler] In black ink on thin paper, this bookplate consists of an erased sable (black) dragon with three bezants (or [gold] roundlets) and two barrulets, or, atop a straight wreath. Above the erased dragon is a banner containing the latin motto. 238. [Bookplate for J. H. Ainsworth by T. E.] This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon divided per pale. The gules (red) dexter of the shield contains a small crescent at precise middle chief, and three battle axes argent (silver), two over one. The battle axe is an ancient military weapon, and placed on a shield represents a mark of prowess. The argent sinister of the shield contains a gules canton at dexter chief. The canton contains a talbot's head, erased. The sinister side of the shield also contains a chevron, ermines (a fur represented by white spots on a black field). Atop the escutcheon is the helm, grated and in profile. The helm is topped by a straight crest wreath and an armored figure holding a battle axe in his dexter hand. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the latin motto. 239. [Bookplate for Robert Cochrane Barclay] This bookplate consists of a gules (red) escutcheon with an argent (silver) chevron. On it are three cross formy, two over one. Atop the shield is a helmet in profile, beaver down, topped by a crest wreath on which is a sword, or possibly a dagger. From the sides of the helmet flows elaborate mantling which curls up towards the sword and down to the base of the shield. Below the shield is a banner containing the Latin motto. 240. [Bookplate for DeLancey H. Barclay] This bookplate consists of a gules (red) escutcheon with an or (gold) chevron. On it are three cross formy, two over one. Raised above the shield is a straight crest wreath mounted by a dagger.
