[Bookplate for Charles Carroll] Bookplate consists of an escutcheon, in a scalloped chippendale style, charged with two lions rampant, between which is a sword. Escutcheon is charged with a straight wreath and an eagle with wings elevated. Cherub also stands beside the escutcheon. 102. [Bookplate for E. May Craig] Bookplate features a tall ship sailing on rough seas. Design contained within border, with bookplate owner name at base. 103. [Bookplate for James Bryce Allan] In black ink. Escutcheon parted per bend, dancetty. Bordure, azure [blue]. Above field, argent [white] and ermine, a stag, gules [red], erased, antlers, or [gold], and an annulet, or. Below field, gules, a crescent. Helm has mantling around a tilting helmet on top of which is a curved crest wreath with a dog, erased. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the Latin motto. 104. [Bookplate for James Phinney Baxter] In black ink. This ex-libris includes a portrait of the originator in the upper-right-hand corner, identified by his name and geographic locale. The remaining two-thirds of the bookplate consist of a depiction of the interior of a library. In a section spanning the base of the bookplate is a cursive, printed motto and a hand-written book number. The printed text is drawn from the last two lines of the second stanza of a poem composed by Baxter, entitled, "The Library." 105. [Bookplate for Catherine Aishton] In black ink. A rectangle. Celtic dog knot-work on the top, bottom, and left sides of a box with the text in it. Between "EX LIBRIS" and "CATHERINE AISHToN" is a boxed line of more Celtic dog knot-work. 106. [Bookplate for W. H. Banfield] A picture of the bust of W.H. Banfield above green printed text. A green printed decorative border. 107. [Bookplate for Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario] In black ink. This bookplate consists of an academic escutcheon in the heraldic-style. The escutcheon is parted per fess, indented, in chief gules (red), charged with two open books with initialled text. These charges mimic the two books found on the University of Toronto's crest. On the fess, argent (silver), appears a maple bough with three leaves. Though situated differently, this symbol may be drawn from the maple bough with three leaves which appears on the coat of arms of the province of Ontario. The base, azure (blue), is charged with a lamp of knowledge. Above the escutcheon is a crown, which resembles that of George IV, also found on the coat of arms of the University. The crown was included in the University crest to indicate the provision of the institution's royal charter by George IV in 1827. Surrounding the escutcheon is a banner containing the name of the university faculty which issued the bookplate. The illustration identifies itself as an "Ex Libris" and below, cites the originating library. The text and illustration are surrounded by a rectangular frame ornamented with garlands. 108. [Bookplate for Kener E. Bond] This bookplate design features a navy sailor holding a rifle, with the guns of a battleship in the background. 109. [Bookplate for David Bond and Elizabeth Bond] Bookplate design features an eagle in flight in foreground, with compass in background. Bookplate owner names at base. 110. [Bookplate for David Bond] Bookplate design features a woodland scene, of a brook and foliage at foreground and trees at back. Bookplate text contained within banner at top. 111. [Bookplate for Thorleit Larson] This bookplate's design is focus on the "Ex Libris" ; the text and surrounding design is done in a style reminiscent of an illuminated manuscript. A book containing owner's name is below. 112. [Bookplate for David Cleghorn Thomson] Bookplate design features a running stag and hound. 113. [Bookplate for Ellen A. Hoffman by Walter J. Phillips] This wood-engraved bookplate's design is based from on a view near Lake Louise in Banff, Alberta. It features a running stream, grass, and trees. Bookplate image is surrounded by a stylized border, which features the grass of parnassus, which is also featured in the foreground of the scene. Bookplate is printed in black ink, on very thin paper. 114. [Bookplate for Joseph Wesley Flavelle by Alexander Scott Carter] This bookplate's design features an escutcheon argent (silver) divided per chevron, sable (black). It is charged with a dexter hand and a six-pointed star. Above the escutcheon is an esquire helmet and that is charged with a winged arm holding a torch. The escutcheon is surrounded by decorative foliage with banners containing bookplate motto and name below. 115. [Bookplate] This bookplate's design consists of a vista of a tree. 116. [Bookplate for Norman M. Keith by W. W. A.] This bookplate's design features a lakeside camping scene with mountains visible in the distance. It is framed by Scottish thistles. Above the scene are three logos representing the Royal Army Medical Corps, the University of Toronto, and Johns Hopkins University. A globe and stack of books are featured in the lower left corner and a small escutcheon of the University of Toronto sits at the bottom centre of the design. 117. [Bookplate for John Charles Alison Heriot by Graham Johnston] This bookplate's design features, in black ink, an escutcheon, argent (silver), charged on the fess with three cinque foils within an indented bordure. Above the escutcheon is a tilting helmet, charged with a straight wreath and a dexter hand couped at the wrist, which holds a laurel wreath aloft. Decorative vegetative mantling surrounds the escutcheon within the bounds of a rectangular frame. The bookplate designer's initials and the date of creation are hidden among the mantling. Behind the laurel wreath, waves a banner containing the bookplate originator's Latin motto and below the coat of arms is a separate compartment containing the originator's name. A smaller version of this bookplate may also be viewed at BP MUR SL P H475a. 118. [Bookplate for Montreal Library for Boys and Girls] Dark brown ink on light brown paper. An image of a young boy and girl in a library with many books open and on the floor. The young girl reaches up to pull down a book from the top shelf while the boy sits cross-legged on the floor reading. 119. [Bookplate for John A. Macdonald] Black ink on cream paper. Above the escutcheon sits a dexter hand, erased, holding a cross crosslet, gules (red), on a vizored helm with mantling. Escutcheon is divided per quarter. The quarterly field near dexter chief is argent (silver) with a lion rampant, gules, and near sinister chief, or (gold), is a dexter hand, erased, holding cross crosslet, gules. The quarterly field near the sinister base displays a fish naiant on water, vert (green), and near the dexter base, argent, is a lymphad in sable (black), azure (blue), and gules. 120. [Bookplate for Hugh John Macdonald] Black ink on white paper. Above the escutcheon on a straight wreath, sits a dexter hand, erased, holding a cross crosslet. Below the wreath a vizored helm with mantling appears. The escutcheon is divided per quarter. The quarterly field near dexter chief is argent (silver) with a lion rampant and near sinister chief, or (gold), is a dexter hand, erased, holding a cross crosslet, gules.
