[Bookplate for John Lomar] This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon, parted per cross. Quarters one and four are parted per pale ; on the left, or (gold), and the right, sable (black). The quarters have a bend cotised, ermine, charged with three escallops apiece. Quarter two is argent (silver), charged with a gryphon rampant. Quarter three is argent, with a cross, sable, with engrailed borders. The quarter is charged with four roundlets, two over two (cantoned). Above the escutcheon is a curved wreath, charged with a crown vallary, and a demi-lion, its arms erect, clutching an escallop. Below the escutcheon is a banner, with Latin motto within. 62. [Bookplate for John Orde] This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon, parted per pale. At dexter, the escutcheon is sable (black), charged with three fish, two over one, huariant. Above the fish is an escutcheon, argent (silver), with the hand of Ulster ; a dexter hand, gules (red), indicating knight status. At sinister, the escutcheon is or (gold), with a flasque gules. The flasque is charged with wild cat heads, one over one. Above the escutcheon is a straight wreath charged with a stag's head erased. The stag's neck is also charged with a band, gules and engrailed. Below the escutcheon is a banner, with Latin motto within. 63. [Bookplate for Almeric Hugh Paget] This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon, sable (black), charged with a cross, argent (silver), between four eagles displayed. The cross is charged with five lions passant guardant. Above the escutcheon is a capless-crown denoting baron status, and above the crown is a peer helmet, positioned three-quarters, with mantling radiation from it and surrounding the escutcheon. Above the helmet is a straight wreath, charged with a heraldic tyger, rampant. At dexter and sinister are two men, each holding a flag charged with a cross patee. Below the escutcheon is a banner, with Latin motto within. Below entire arms is another banner, with bookplate owner's name and title. 64. [Bookplate for Vincent Stuckey] In black in, this bookplate consists of and escutcheon divided per pale. The dexter half is divided per bend sinister, or (gold), azure (blue) and dove-tailed, and charged with a lion, rampant and ermine with a tail queue fourché. At the dexter chief of the half is an azure canton charged with a mascle, or. The sinister half of the escutcheon is identical to the dexter, except that at it also contains a crescent at middle chief. The escutcheon is crested by a straight crest wreath and a demi-lion with tail queue fourché, ermine and charged with a mascle, azure. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the Latin motto. 65. [Bookplate for Charles Perrin Smith] This bookplate consists of a very detailed coat of arms, which is divided per pale. The first half at dexter has fifteen quarterings, which are as follows: azure (blue) with a chevron argent (silver), charged with a crescent, between three cocks ; sable (black) charged with three griffin's heads erased ; sable and argent (silver) divided per fess with a lion rampant ; argent charged with a lion passant, between three fleur de lis, two over one ; gules and argent, divided quarterly, charged with four lions passant ; or (gold) charged with a lion gules rampant ; ermine (fur) charged with a lion sable rampant ; azure with a chevron argent, between three cocks ; gules with two lions passant, one above the other ; ermines and sable, divided per bend sinister, charged with a lion sable rampant ; argent, a bordure engrailed or charged with three Griffin's heads, erased gules ; argent and gules, divided per quarterly, quarters one and four argent, charged with three boars' heads and quarters two and th. 66. [Bookplate for P Kelly] In black ink. This bookplate consists of an escutcheon, azure (blue), a tower triple towered with three crosses couped, two over one on the tower, supporters, two lioncels combatant. Vizored helm of an esquire or gentleman above the escutcheon, with mantling. Above the helm is a curved crest wreath topped with an unidentifiable beast with the head of a bird, front feet cloven, and hindquarters of a dog, statant. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the Latin motto. 67. [Bookplate by Francis Adams Sc.] In black ink. Escutcheon parted per cross. First quarter, or, a lion, gules, rampant. Second quarter, argent, an arm embowed fessways holding an axe shaped like a cross formy. Third quarter, argent, a lymphad, sails furled, on water. Fourth quarter, argent, a fish on water. Shield supporters, two horse-like beasts with short tails, combatant. Helm, a diadem topped with a lion, couped. Below the escutcheon is a banner with mantling containing the Latin motto. 68. [Bookplate for University of Alberta] Bookplate design consists of University of Alberta arms, latin motto and text in green ink. 69. [Bookplate for Charles Carroll] Bookplate consists of an escutcheon, in a scalloped chippendale style, charged with two lions rampant, between which is a sword. Escutcheon is charged with a straight wreath and an eagle with wings elevated. Cherub also stands beside the escutcheon. 70. [Bookplate for Lachlan Gibb] In black ink. This bookplate's design features an escutcheon with or (gold), azure (blue), and sable (black) designs, parted per cross and charged at the fess point with an additional coat of arms. The escutcheon is outlined by an ornate border and situated in the center of a rectangular frame, divided into quadrants. These sections feature a domed building, topped with a cross, a ship, three battle-axes and three beavers, respectively. The originator's Latin motto and name appear along the base of the frame. Above the rectangular design are two straight wreaths charged with a dexter arm vambraced couped, holding aloft a battle-axe and an eagle bearing a tilting spear. 71. [Bookplate for Lockwood] This bookplate's design features an escutcheon, argent (silver) and sable (black), charged with three martlets. Another martlet rests above the escutcheon on the stump of an oak tree, erased and the Lockwood family motto appears in a banner below. 72. [Bookplate for Sir Robert Peel] In black ink. Armorial bookplate. Argent (silver) three sheaves of as many arrows proper, banded gules (red). On a chief azure (blue) a bee volant, or (gold). Crest of a demi-lion rampant argent, gorged with a collar azure, charged with three bezants, holding between the paw a shuttle, or. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the Latin motto. 73. [Bookplate for Coombe] In black ink. This ex libris displays a sable (black) escutcheon with two bars, argent (silver). The coat of arms is charged with seven bees volant, three-over-three-over-one. The escutcheon is charged with a straight wreath and at the crest a demi-lion rampant. Around the neck of the lion is a coronet. Below the escutcheon appears a banner containing the originators Latin motto. The verso of the ex libris is faintly marbled. 74. [Bookplate for Hilda Shibley] Printed in black ink on white paper, the words 'EX LIBRIS' appear at the top of the bookplate, below which sits a winged stag facing left or a stag sitting on a winged cloud. Below the stag appear the words HILDA / SHIBLEY.'. 75. [Bookplate for Marcus Brown Westhead] In black ink on white paper, this bookplate consists of a shield quartered. First and fourth quarter, argent, two barrulets dancette sable, between three Saracens' heads couped at the shoulders proper, wreathed round the temples, of the first and second. Second and third quarter, azure, on a fesse argent, between three martlets in chief, and the Roman fasces erect surmounting two swords in saltire, and encircled by a chaplet in base or, three chess-rooks sable. Center inescutcheon, party per chevron or and azure, in chief a mullet of six points lies between two crosses pattée of the last, and in base the front elevation of a chapel argent, the whole being charged with a crescent for difference. First crest, on a wreath of the colors, within a fetterlock or, a Saracen's head couped proper, wreathed round the temples argent and sable. Second crest, on a wreath of the colours, a demi-eagle displayed with two heads azure, charged on the breast with the fasces, swords, and chaplet, as in the arms. The escutcheon is surrounded by mantling and below a banner bears the motto 'ORA ET LABORA.'. 76. [Bookplate for Henry Young and Alice Young by Joseph Winfred Spenceley] In black ink on beige paper. In the centre, standing on the name plate, is the image of knight crusader, holding with outstretched arms a broad ribbon inscribed with the word "Credo." His Norman pointed shield hangs in front of his sword from a strap at his left hip ; the charges, untinctured, are: barry of five, in canton a leopard contournd. At either side of him rises a large acanthus-like scroll surmounted by a leopard's head ; behind him hangs an arras curtain, draped and knotted at the top. Across the base ripples a ribbon, inscribed "Ex libris Henry and Alice Young." The whole is enclosed in a narrow, formal frame. 77. [Bookplate for Coburn Haskell by E. Cox & Co] Black ink on cream paper. The coat of arms features a shield of vair represented in six rows of black and silver. The depiction includes mantling. A helmet tops the shield and at the crest is a fruit tree. Below is a scroll with motto. The publisher information is inscribed under the shield. 78. [Bookplate for Hugel] Black ink on white paper. The crest features a lion rampant holding a flower with three petals between its paws. The lion stands atop a crown with elaborate, feathery wings extending upwards to the left and right. The crown is round and flat and decorated with three diamonds across the front. The crown sits on the head of a baronet and knight helm. Elaborate, curling mantling extends to the left and right and down the bookplate, becoming blacker towards the ends. The shield is divided per cross. The top left and bottom right sections are sable and charged with a lion rampant. The lion in the top left faces to the right, whereas the lion in the bottom right faces to the left. Like the lion in the crest, these lions hold a flower with three petals in their paws. The top right and bottom left sections of the shield are argent with sable dots. They are each charged with three black diamonds, two over one. The diamonds have black shading on the right-hand sides. Below the shield, a curling ribbon with non-straight edges has the motto printed in black, capitalized, serif font. Below the ribbon, the bookplate owner’s name is printed in elaborate, black, large, sentence case, Gothic font with extensive curling decorations surrounding the text. 79. [Bookplate for William Henderson] Black ink on white paper. Crest features a right hand extending straight out of crest-wreath. The hand clutches a black star fish by one tentacle. The shield is divided per pale with a chief that is also divided in two sections. The top left section is argent and charged with two black elaborate ermine/fleur-de-lis shapes on either side of a black crescent that is almost a full circle. The black crescent has a line in the middle dividing it into two smaller half-moon crescent shapes. The bottom right section is argent and charged with a larger version of the crescent shape. The top right corner is sable and charged with three white five-point stars. The bottom left section has a strip along the left edge of the shield that is argent with sable dots. Next to that is a sable section upon which overlaps three white triangles that extend horizontally from the central dividing line on the shield. Below the shield, there is a curling ribbon with shading on the ends. The motto is printed on the ribbon in capitalized, black, serif font. Below the ribbon is the bookplate owner’s name printed in larger, capitalized, black, serif font. 80. [Bookplate for A. T. Higginson] Black ink on white paper. The crest features a knight’s armoured right arm extending from a crown. The crown is decorated with black ermines and wraps around a black top that looks like cloth. The ends of the crown do not meet, but instead extend out to a point to the right. The arm has a twisted rope with dangling ends hanging from the hand and the hand clutches a weapon that is a spear on one end and has two prongs on the other end. The shield is argent with sable dots and a sable pale. The dexter and sinister portions of the shield are surrounded by a white border marked off with a thin black line. The pale is charged with a stone castle tower with a door and three windows. The pale is also charged with two white circles, one above and one below the tower. The bottom and right hand side of the shield is shaded with black. Below the shield, a ribbon with curling ends features the motto printed in capitalized, black, sans serif font.
