[Bookplate for J. E. Horvath by Gabriella Krisztimkovich] The bookplate belongs to J. Eugene Horvath who is a famous bibliographer living in Vancouver. The central image is of a Canadian mapleleaf. The left portion of the leaf has a gilt inlaid ceramic plate with a quill pen over it signifying a love of writing. The central portion of the leaf has a set of mountains signifying the Vancouver area with a camera below it signifying a love of photography. The right portion of the leaf has an image of a Hungarian King St. Ladislas The central portion of the leaf has an image of the Buda side of Budapest and shows the central castle and churches lying in relief above the Danube river. This portion of the bookplate indicates the fact that Horvath was born in Hungary and emigrated to Canada. 182. [Bookplate for Maxwell K. Heap] There is an elaborate border on this bookplate beginning with a rolled barred fillet with fleur-de-lis at each corner. Within this border are three additional black fillets the middle one is slightly thicker with alternating black and white bars suggesting a rope like pattern. The central image is of a large book overlaying a lighted torch behind it. Birds wings sit below the book supporting it. 183. [Bookplate for Charles N. Hood, Mary K. Hood, and Dorothy Hood by A. H. N.] Pictorial bookplate. Within an elaborate floral border is a square divided into both text and an image of a fireplace and bookshelf. At the bottom of the frame is face, below which is the artist's initials and date. 184. [Bookplate for Otto Koerner by K. M. S.] Pictorial bookplate. Be-speckled and reading Cherubs are portrayed above the text. Below the text is a flower as well as stars, insects, and chicks. 185. [Bookplate for Walter Koerner and Marianne Koerner by Leo Haas] Pictorial bookplate. A nude couple is portrayed standing and sitting on an open book that is suspended above a European city. The man is standing with his arms extended towards the sun and the woman is sitting at his feet facing in the same direction. 186. [Bookplate for Norman MacKenzie] The shield is red with four argent bands and rays of the sun emanating from the bottom. On the shield is a black stag's head above which is an arm holding a dagger and protruding from a wreathe. At the top of the shield is an open book with buckles. 187. [Bookplate for Herbert Spencer Stvdy] Woman is Mnemosyne, personification of memory in Greek mythology, or Vigilanza / Vigilantia wearing a loose gown and with hair tresses. Holding oil-lamp in her left hand, and closed book in her right hand. Flanking the right side of Vigilantia is an olive tree. Behind the torso of Vigilantia is a shelf of books, and behind her head is a landscape with a castle overlooking a lake, surrounded by mountains, and a cloudy sky. Ex Libris part of image. 188. [Bookplate for S. C. Lunsford by Frits Jacobsen] The Dominion Building is depicted, which is located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and provincially designated a heritage building. 189. [Bookplate for Alice Ravenhill] Heraldic bookplate executed in black ink on white paper. The bookplate consists of a simple shield above which is a ribbon with the motto: "Candide et Constanter" (fairly and firmly). 190. [Bookplate for George H. Beans] This is simple black and white monogram design. Within a shield-shaped border is a simple plant growing from three mounds. The text is outside the border at the top and bottom. 191. [Bookplate for Hugh Macdonald Sinclair] Appearing at the top is a motto AD ASTRA VIRTUS. Star crest on a wreath sits on top of a gentleman's vizored helm with mantling. Bordure of shield has stars from the base to the dexter side and from the chief to the sinister side. Quarterly field has a lion rampant (meaning: masculinity, leadership, royalty, justice and strength) near the sinister chief and near the dexter base, and a unknown symbol on the dexter chief, and a ship (meaning: voyage, salvation, and seafaring) on the sinister base. Appearing at the bottom of the bookplate is another motto J'AIME LE MEILLEUR. 192. [Bookplate for Iser Steiman M.D. by A. N. T.] Black ink on cream paper. Man, no shoes, chest bare, book hugged against torso with left arm, while right arm holds open a book held at eye level. Sunlight illuminates the man. Deciduous tree in foreground. Hills in background. 193. [Bookplate for V. C. Scudamore] A light in the upper left corner casts rays of light on the sillouette of a person reading. 194. [Bookplate for W.H. Smith & Son] Printed in black ink on purple paper, this textual bookplate is framed by a single-lined border in which a circled design is place in each corner. Affixed by a paper clip to the top right corner is a square, white stamp printed in black ink. Its text is: Finsbury London / Institution, Circus. E. 642 21 days. 195. [Bookplate for Eric L. Swanick] This bookplate is executed with green ink on white paper. The green ink is in the shape of an oval through which the design appears in white. On the top of the oval is depicted a swan floating on water, which is depicted directly above the name Eric L. Swanick. From each end of the name a design emerges that forms a decorative border. 196. [Bookplate for George Charles Williamson] Executed in black ink on white paper, the text is surrounded by a double-lined border in which the inside line is thinner than the outside line. 197. [Bookplate for Hans Reichardt and Michael B. Kunze] Black ink on white paper. A man in 19th century dress reads at a table cluttered with books. 198. [Bookplate for Leida Eerme and A. Lavdovsky by A. Lee] In black and yellow ink, image of abstract human figure reading a book. 199. [Bookplate for Emil Eerme and A. Lavdovsky by O. Kubse] Night scene of human figure seated and reading in front of a tree by the light of the moon. An owl sits on a branch near the top of the tree, outlined by the moon. Another tree is present in the background. Text appears along right side and bottom. Image is set in a double border. 200. [Bookplate for Ernst Hohmann and Michael B. Kunze] Black ink on white paper. Crowned man sits on stone decorated with small leaves, reading from a paper. His sword rests beside him.
