Consisting only of text, the owner's name and location are surrounded by a border. Exposure to water has cause the ink to smudge. 23. [Bookplate for Clark. William Mortimer] In black ink, a circular belt/garter provides the border. Within is a cat, sejant rampant, upon a straight crest wreath. The belt contains the English motto. 24. [Bookplate for D. Guthrie] The owner’s name, occupation, and city are centered and printed in black ink, surrounded by a decorative scroll and floral border. 25. [Bookplate for David Hodgson] In black ink, a oval belt/garter provides the border. Within is a dove on a straight crest wreath with an olive branch in its beak. The belt contains the English motto. 26. [Bookplate for Dilys Jones] Printed in black ink on faded red paper. Heraldic crest is top centre. Text is surrounded by a thin black border. 27. [Bookplate for Dorothy Maclaren Hepton by William Walker Alexander] Brown ink on cream paper. A plain border with a thin brown outline on the outside and thick brown outline on the inside. The image in the center of the bookplate is surrounded by a decorative background. The background has brown dots overlaid with thin white leaves on a stem. The stems curl around the left and right sides of the image. The image in the center is surrounded by a border comprised of three petaled leaves. At the top, bottom, left, and right of the border are two crossed strips covering the leaves. A dark inner border separates the decorative leaves from the center image. The image itself depicts two women sitting in an ancient Grecian scene. There is a building with arches in the left background. Next to the building, right behind the women is a large, shaded column. The foregrounded woman is sitting on a platform. Behind her is a small bowl of flowers. The same flowers decorate her dark hair in a floral crown. She is wearing a flowing white dress with a jewelry band around her right arm, which is holding onto her knees. At her feet is a lyre perched against another ledge. Behind the lyre is a dark, three-legged vessel with smoke pouring from it. There are some bushes behind the vessel and a plain horizon with a dark landscape and a pale sky. To the left of the vessel is a woman either standing or on her knees ; her legs are blocked from view by the sitting woman. The woman is playing a wind instrument, potentially an aulos. Her hair is in a half bun and half down. The ribbons in her hair are also flowing behind her head. Curling ribbons extend from below the image’s bottom border. A thicker ribbon rolls out below the ribbon. The bookplate owner’s name is printed in capitalized, serif font. Each word in the owner’s name is printed on its own line, with each line becoming increasingly indented. Two daisy flowers on stems are printed to the left of the last word in the owner’s name. 28. [Bookplate for Dunham Methodist Sunday School] Black ink on cream paper. A thin, vine-like border houses the text. No content lies outside of this border. Inside, the name of the school library is centered in the upper portion. A fillable number section is located in the central portion, with the number 216 erased out and the number 56 written to the right of it in blue ink. Beneath this section is a small printed hand icon pointing towards a note instructing the user of the library usage policy. In the portion of this note for the librarian to write the number of days until it’s due is written the number 14 in pencil. 29. [Bookplate for E. C. Bangs] Bookplate design consists of text contained within artistic border. In black ink. 30. [Bookplate for Eliza Ann Taylor and Michael B. Kunze] Colour ink on white paper. Gold outer border. Inner border is floral pattern on pink background. Text box at centre right. 31. [Bookplate for Emil Eerme and A. Lavdovsky by A. Lee] In blue and red ink, abstract image of what appears to be an eye-like shape projecting, from the iris, a beam downwards through two empty eye-like shapes and a third eye-like shape that seems to represent the eyelashes. The beam moves downward beyond these shapes and appears to illuminate a tree-like shape at the bottom. Text appears vertically along left border. 32. [Bookplate for Emil Eerme and A. Lavdovsky by O. Kubse] Night scene of human figure seated and reading in front of a tree by the light of the moon. An owl sits on a branch near the top of the tree, outlined by the moon. Another tree is present in the background. Text appears along right side and bottom. Image is set in a double border. 33. [Bookplate for Emil Eerme and A. Lavdovsky by O. Kubse] In black ink, watercolour style scene of hills and trees reflected on the surface of a lake. Solid right side and bottom border, and rounded, soft left and top border. Text written vertically along right side border. 34. [Bookplate for Eric L. Swanick] This bookplate is executed with green ink on white paper. The green ink is in the shape of an oval through which the design appears in white. On the top of the oval is depicted a swan floating on water, which is depicted directly above the name Eric L. Swanick. From each end of the name a design emerges that forms a decorative border. 35. [Bookplate for Ernest Fawcett by British Columbia Department of Education] Executed in black ink, this pre-printed textual bookplate is framed by a triple-lined border. The dotted lines have been filled in by hand in what was originally black ink but which is now green where the ink bled into the paper. 36. [Bookplate for Eugene Charters and Stella Charters] In black ink. This bookplate displays the silhouette of a large galleon in full sail. Below the ship is written ex-libris and the names of the originators. The nautical motif and text are framed by a flowering vine border. In each corner appears a small framed image including, an evergreen, an open-book, a seated dog and a pair of theatrical masks. 37. [Bookplate for Évêché de St. Hyacinthe] Handwritten note in black ink above the bookplate. Black ink on pale grey paper with some discolouration. Solid border surrounded externally and internally by thin outlines inside an intertwined double-lined spiral border. Text written in capital and sentence case bold letters. 38. [Bookplate for F. W. R. Johnston] Black ink on cream paper. The border of the bookplate is decorated with black and white checkers with a thin white line on the side of the border. In the center of the bookplate is a modernized heraldic design. The background of the center of the bookplate is black with small white dots. Text is printed at the top of the bookplate in white block letters. In the middle of the bookplate is a crest-wreath from which extends a knight’s armoured arm holding a sword that is printed on top of the block lettering. There is a black eight-pointed star with a hole in the middle on the knight’s elbow. The motto is printed on a ribbon that extends up along the left side of the knight’s arm and then cuts across and starts curling down on the right side of the arm, extending out horizontally on the right side and curling back up again. Capitalized, black, serif font is printed on three parts of the ribbon. The part of the ribbon that curls up on the right side has a black stem with leaves on it. The ribbon has a border of two, thin black lines. Below the crest-wreath is a chunkier scroll with curling ends on all sides. The bookplate owner’s name is printed in capitalized, curling, black, serif font. The last name is larger than the first initials. Below the same is a stylized white and black infinity symbol. Within the borders, in the bottom right corner, there is a small white circle with a white cross in the center. 39. [Bookplate for Frank John Joseph] Black ink on cream paper. The crest features a bushel of wheat tied with a ribbon around the center atop a crest-wreath. Shield is divided per chevron. The background is black and it is charged with five smaller bushels three over two. The three bushels are above the chevron and the remaining two are below. The shield is decorated with an elaborate white border. Below the shield, the motto is printed in black, capitalized, block sans serif font on a curling ribbon with decorative ends. Underneath the motto, the bookplate owner’s name is printed in black, sentence case gothic font. 40. [Bookplate for Fred Bowman] In black ink, a man sitting in a chair with his feet resting on a table reading a book and smoking a pipe. The smoke is the signature of Fred Bowman. There is a lamp and a mouse behind him. He is sitting in front of a fireplace with a clock and dishes on the mantle and a cat in front of the fire. There is a bookshelf opposite him and two pictures on the wall.
