[Bookplate by Eiichi Hirose] A hand made bookplate with a rectangular green border. The central image of a tropical flower (Hibiscus) presides in the picture. It is mounted in a green vase, has green leaves and a red flower with nine separate crosses in the centre. 2. [Bookplate by Eiichi Hirose] The central image is a view from overtop of a grey can sitting on a blue and white chequered background. The can has an inner and an outer ring with 8 red and green strawberries sitting at the centre of the can. 3. [Bookplate by Eiichi Hirose] A fan-shaped segway contains the central image of the bookplate with the larger side facing upwards. A black background with a yellow half-moon indicate that the image is set in the night. A blue image of Mt. Fuji is set to the right side of the image. A large cloud outlines Mt. Fuji. Two green tall trees with no obvious branches sit just to the left of the centre of the image and are outlined by the clouds. 4. [Bookplate by Eiichi Hirose] The picture is of a stone pillar amongst a garden with a yellow frame outline. The pillar has several symbols which represent the same image found on a 5 yen coin. There is a hole in the centre which holds water for a person to drink from using the yellow bamboo cup sitting on the top of the pillar. 5. [Bookplate by F.A.C.] The bookplate depicts a lakeside scene in which a hotel is set among trees at the edge of the water. Prominent hills also give a sense of the surrounding landscape. This picturesque scene is framed by a border of trees. Amongst the leaves at the top of image is a scroll that reads 'Ex-Libris.' At the bottom of the image, an open book displays the words 'Rogers Rock.'. 6. [Bookplate by James Gourlay Gray] Metallic brown black ink on cream paper. Border of two thin black lines with floral and leafy decorative features on the left and right sides. Latin script printed at the top of the bookplate in capitalized font with curling serif. An inner border surrounds two images. The top image has a black background with four white shining stars in the background. In the centre is a half circle strip with curled sends over marbled colouring, all of which surrounds sheet music. On top of the sheet music is a small harp-like instrument with horns protruding from it. At the top of the heart is a candle holder with smoke swirling from the top. On the outer left-hand side of the half-circle decoration is a reclining woman styled like a classical status in a draping dress. She is holding a pan flute in her right hand. On the right hand side, another similarly styled woman is reclining and holding a paint easel with several brushes in her left hand. Both women are barefooted. The bottom image has a thick marbled border. Within the border is a curlicue decoration, in the centre of which is an image of a work desk. There is a photograph hanging on the wall behind the desk. The desk itself is quite cluttered and features many photographs, papers, and books. The walls have decorative wall paper and there are various wall hangings. Below that section are two horizontal strips of different decorations. The top stripe has a dark snake like curving pattern, the borders of which are decorated with stylized, pointed lines. Thin white stripes are at the top and bottom of the horizontal strip. A row of small white dots separates this pattern from the next strip, which is a series of floral leaves curling in a line to meet at the centre. Below that, the bookplate owner’s name is printed in capitalized serif font with extra stylizing on the “A”s. 7. [Bookplate by W. Bowles and J.W. Leigh] This bookplate is rendered in a circular motif, with three escutcheons pivoting the centre. The first crest is gules (red), charged with three ducal coronet, positioned two over one, with a roundlet or (gold) at centre. The second crest has a chevronelly of eleven or and azure (blue). The third crest is gules, charged with three inverted wildcat heads on fleur-de-lis, two over one. The entire assemblage is contained within a circular pattern, with Latin name in the border. The original artist of the crest is J.W. Leigh, indicated by "Inv." at the base of the design. 8. [Bookplate for Academie Commerciale Catholique] The text is surrounded by a simple lined border. S.] This bookplate uses some architectural features to create a grid with nine cells. The centre of the image has a panel with the ownership information. The top of this panel serves as the floor for two figures practicing fencing that are framed with an arch. This arch is supported on two square boxes at the top corners of the image. There is a flower vase on top and books inside each box. Similar boxes with apple branches mark the bottom corners. The spaces between these boxes are supported by columns that flank two sportive figures, a hockey player on the left and a hunter on the right. In the bottom central area a small row boat sits in water. 11. [Bookplate for Alexandri Barbaro] This elaborately decorated bookplate consists of an argent (silver) escutcheon with a gules (red) annulet at the fess point, or centre. The annulet is often the mark of the fifth son. Atop the shield is a diadem or ducal coronet. On either side of the shield are flags and branches, and on the right is a horn. The bookplate is double-framed, first on the interior with a rectangular chaplet, and then on the exterior edge with a double line. 12. [Bookplate for Alton Goldbloom] Black and gold ink on cream paper. Art deco stylized capitalized font printed a top an image of a baby emerging from the torso up out of a gold, three-petal flower. Black stripes of alternating thick and thin width appear behind the baby. The vertical stem of the flower has a gold centre and two leaves, one on each side of the stem, that are half black and half gold. The stem expands in width at the base and capitalized font is written in the non-printed space at the black base. Black ink capitalized font is written below. 13. [Bookplate for Arnin Neuensundschen] In black ink, this bookplate consists of a round wreathed textual area in the centre. Behind it is a hearth-type frame with a ring hanger on the left and right side. There is a curtain strung up through the left ring, across and through to the right ring. At the centre-top of the image is the face of an angel. At the base of the image is a globe, partially covered by a clothe, and next to it are a book and a bust. 14. [Bookplate for Charles Bathurst] This bookplate consists of an escutcheon divided per pale. The dexter side, sable (black), contains two bars, ermine (design representing white powdered fur with black tufts). At the centre of the top bar there is a crescent, or (gold), within a mullet, gules (red). On the top third of the sable background are three cross formy, or. The sinister side is itself divided per pale, ermine and ermines (design representing black fur powdered with argent [silver]). It contains three fleurs-de-lis all counter-changed, two over one, and contains a chevron charged with five lozenges, ermine and ermines all counter-changed. Atop the shield, but not resting on it, is a straight crest wreath and an arm embowed, with fist clenched holding a spiked club. The arm is charged with a crescent, or , within a mullet, gules. 18. [Bookplate for Charles Eliot Norton] This bookplate consists of a straight heraldic wreath charged with a gryphon. Below the wreath a three books, piled, with a scroll over-top, with Latin motto within. 19. [Bookplate for Charles Girdlestone] In black ink, this bookplate consists of text surrounded by a floral border. At the top centre of the border is a scallop shell. 20. [Bookplate for Charles Manby by Suffield] In black ink, this bookplate consists of an escutcheon divided per pale, with a stylized bordure. The dexter quadrant, gules (red), is charged with a lion rampant and a chief, argent (silver), with three martlets. The sinister quadrant, gules, is charged with four etoiles, two over two, and contains a canton, coloured ermine (white powdered fur with black tufts), in the dexter chief of the quadrant, covering two-thirds of the etoile in that location. The canton represents the banner of the ancient Knights Banneret, which is an honourable order which has become extinct. It was on order conferred upon persons, recognized by a king or general, that had perfomed some heroic act on the battlefield. The escutcheon is crested by a straight wreath and a lion passant guardant, holding what appears to be a millrind, sable (black) in its dexter paw. The millrind is placed in the centre of a grindstone to protect the hole in the centre from the action of the axis ; it is a charge frequently used by persons connected with agriculture.
