[Bookplate by Eiichi Hirose] A hand made bookplate with a rectangular green border. An image of bamboo trees done in green is central to the picture. A brown bird is located in the lower left portion of the plate, and it is flying towards the bottom of the page. 3. [Bookplate by Eiichi Hirose] A blue rectangular border surrounds the central image. The central image of a blue side view of Mt. Fuji above a number of green rice patti stalks blowing in the wind towards the right. Hovering above them are a pair of dragonflies done in red flying towards the left. 4. [Bookplate by Eiichi Hirose] A ragged edge of a central image is covered in a grey coloured wash. The central image is of a woman in a traditional flowered kimono dancing, done from a woodcut. The woman is facing to the left and her right hand, in the lower left of the picture, holds a hat. 5. [Bookplate for Eiichi Hirose] The central image is a black square with an irregular stick figure done in white with orange blocks within it. Where the head should be there is a black and orange eye. 6. [Bookplate by Eiichi Hirose] The central image is of the red and black outline of a face used in a Japanese mask possibly used for Kabuki. The face is located towards the right side of the bookplate. The face is used for a demon called an Oni. A bamboo flute done in a light brown lies to the lower left side of the bookplate. It has some Kanji writing symbols as well as a few cherry blossom petals. 7. [Bookplate by G. P. V. Akrigg] Created using black ink on white paper (glue painted on back). The image is of a desk facing a window with two panes (each divided into eight sections) opening onto a view of an inlet and three mountains. A totem pole is behind the sinister pane. Drawn curtains are on both the sinister and dexter sides of the window. Above the window is a ribbon inscribed with "ALL LEARNING BUT AN ART TO LIVE WELL." On the desk, from left to right, is a painter's palette with two paint brushes, an open book, a ruler, ink well, fountain pen, pencils, card catalogue drawer, index card, small closed book, and a bust of Shakespeare. Below the bust are inscribed the initials "G.P.V.A." 8. [Bookplate for Maija Calite by Richards Skrubis] Image is of a side profile of a woman (possibly originator) against a black and white background. There is a braid done in a circular pattern at the back of her hair and she is facing to the right. 9. [Bookplate for Hans Hjordis Hygen by E. B.] The bookplate's central image is done in relief of a house with a walkway and trees of to the sides of the house. The house appears to be a prosperous house with two chimneys and several floors. A mountain with whitcaps sits in the background and several stars are seen above them. 10. [Bookplate for Emil Eerme and A. Lavdovsky by O. Kubse] In black, forest scene done in watercolour, bordered on sides and base by ruled lines. 11. [Bookplate for L. Farkas and J. E. Horvath by K. J.] Line drawing done in black ink on tan paper. Two plant pots with thorny vines at the at bottom of the image, one is standing and one is laying down. The vine from the standing pot, a rose vine, extends to the upper edge where it forms a frame around an open book with the letters A B C and children toys. The middle of the drawing displays a book with a rosary and flowers behind it. The text starts above the flowers, continues between the book and the plant pots, ending under the plant pots. A small round seal with the initals RS is displayed at the bottom left corner of te bookplate. 12. [Bookplate for William Smith] This bookplate, in black ink, contains an escutcheon, gules (red), with a chevron, ermine (white powdered fur with black tufts), and is charged with two crescents over one garbe. Above the escutcheon is a dexter closed helmet, which is crested by a curved wreath and an eagle's head, erased, with a crown around its neck. From the helmet flows very elaborate mantling which flows out and down to the base of the escutcheon. Above the crest is a banner containing the Latin motto. 13. [Bookplate for Thorleit Larson] This bookplate's design is focus on the "Ex Libris" ; the text and surrounding design is done in a style reminiscent of an illuminated manuscript. A book containing owner's name is below. 14. [Bookplate for Berenice Skinner by Bank B. Gordon] A large galleon on rough seas is framed above a bookshelf holding books, a quill, and a lit candle. 15. A simple border frames the text. 17. [Bookplate by Colonist Lithography] In black ink on cream paper. The top center contains the coat of arms, flanked by elaborate leafy scrollwork. In the center is text in multiple bold fonts identifying the book number and library number (with gray rectangles where these numbers were handwritten). The bottom third contains the small text rules. Surrounding everything are two thin borders, between which, on the bottom edge, is the name of the lithographer. 18. [Bookplate for Union des Commis-Marchands] Text is printed in a numbered list, surrounded by a line border resembling chain. 19. [Bookplate for A. C. Jones by Clare Victor Dwiggins] Black ink on cream paper. The border of the bookplate consists of intertwined thorny and leafy vines with thicker leaves in the corners. The top left and right corners also feature rose-like flowers. Near the top of the border, vines extend from the left and right sides towards the center of the bookplate design. Capitalized, black, whimsical font is at the top of the bookplate. Dots surround some of the words and some letters are looping or intertwined. In the center of the bookplate, a tall, thin, beautiful woman in a whimsical fluted dress stands atop a closed book. The woman’s hair is done up and decorated with flowers. Flowers also decorate the top of the dress, the bottom of which features a spiral pattern. The dress is cinched at the waist with a belt and similarly cinched around the thighs with a large ribbon tied in a bow. The bottom of the dress extends outwards and there is a lacey layer underneath. The woman is wearing slip-on high heels with bows on the front. Next to the large book the woman is standing on are two books, one small one in front of the book sitting on its side. The other book is standing upright and is behind the large book. The woman is bending towards a small, naked cherub with a single curl atop its head and feathery wings. The cherub is standing in front of a book open and standing on its pages with the spine up. The cherub is also holding an open book and looking smilingly up at the woman. Behind the woman, the bookplate creator’s name is printed in curling, capitalized, black font.
