[Bookplate for Blythe Eagles by A. W.] Armorial bookplate created with black ink on white paper. In the precise middle chief is an eagle (created in a First Nations' design) clutching a fish. A purpure chevron with three dogwood flowers is also portrayed. Three university shields are featured: University of Toronto (dexter chief), Yale University (sinister chief), University of British Columbia (nombril point). Below the University of British Columbia's crest are two aulns (single pieces of wheat). 2. [Bookplate for Ernest E. Goodwin] Black ink on cream paper. Argent, per pale, left hand side per cross. First quadrant on left hand side has speckled background. Square in upper left hand corner charged with three speckled roundels two on three. Charged with two lions passant guardant. Design is repeated in the fourth quadrant. Second quadrant has argent chief charged with three sable stars. Below the chief is sable charged with displayed bird mirrored vertically. Design is repeated in third quadrant. Middle third right hand side is sable charged with three fleurs-de-lis. Crest of demi-lion rampant guardant holding in its forepaws a circle with speckled interior on crest-wreath. Motto featured in capital letters on ribbon banner with curled ends. Name written in typewritten cursive sentence case. 3. [Bookplate for Henry James Grasett] Black ink on cream paper. Crest features bow loaded with arrow aimed to the left. Feathers stretch outwards on either side of the base of the bow on a crest-wreath. Shield is argent and sable per saltire, divided with a sable cross. Top and bottom quarters are argent charged with a plant with round top and brush head. Feathery leaves appear at either side of the base. Top feature has two sable stylized decorations featuring roundels three over two atop three lines connected at the top that separate outwards at the bottom. Four of the same decorations are featured in the bottom quarter. Left and right quarters are sable charged with five point stars and a stylized design element similar to those in the top and bottom quarters, but thicker and in argent. The shield is surrounded by a stylized border decorated with various curls. Below the shield, the motto is written in capitalized block letters on ribbon with elaborately curled blackening ends. 4. [Bookplate for Victor Werheimstein and J. E. Horvath] Black ink on tan paper. A female figure wearing long hooded robe reads a book on an ornate stand. The figure stands infront of a woven fence with vegetation. This image is surranded by a decorated frame with the text on a wide ribbon at the bottom. 5. [Bookplate for Catholic Commercial Academy of Montreal, Wm Price, and U. E. Archambault by Geo. E. Desbarats] Black ink on white paper. The border of the bookplate comprises three layers: the outermost is an abstract floral motif on the four corners ; secondly is a geometric pattern of triangles ; the innermost layer is a plain line. Curlicues surround the words “Catholic” and “of Montreal.” The bookplate is a pre-printed form with space for the prize name, winner, year and date to be filled out. 6. [Bookplate for Ralph H. Kilby] Black ink on white paper. The crest features a circle with a border with black outlines and horizontal black lines. Inside the border there is a crown. The crown as three leafy designs at the top and the band is decorated with different jewels. The crest sits upon a crest-wreath. The shield has a border comprised of curling sections with ornate decorations on the ends. The shield is charged at the top with three black circles with white centers ; smaller versions of the black border featured in the crest. Below the circles are three horizontal black stripes. In the center of the top stripe is a white circle with black dots. Underneath the shield, the motto is printed on a curling ribbon in capitalized, sans serif black font. The bookplate owner’s name is printed in large, cursive, sentence case black font. 7. [Bookplate for Juliette Hauply] Black ink on yellowed paper. This pictorial bookplate depicts an animal, possibly a dog, prancing in a field. Surrounding the animal are flowers and leaves. Decorative borders, illustrated with vines, separate the bookplate owner's name from the illustration. 8. [Bookplate for Lewis] Brown ink on cream paper. Crest features a dog’s head on a crest-wreath. Below the crest is an esquires helm with elaborate mantling extending out in multiple layers. The shield is divided with a horizontal black line in the center. Above the line, the shield is charged with three dogs, the same breed featured in the crest. Below the line, the shield is charged with a single flower with five round petals and a black center. Underneath the shield, a motto is printed in capitalized, block serif black font on a horizontal ribbon with curling ends and a bend in the center. MacDonald] Brown ink on tan paper. Plate divided into three sections. At the top, the University of Toronto shield sits to the left of the text. In the middle is a picture of Hart House as seen from above. At the bottom is the name of the donor. 11. [Bookplate for Montreal Children's Library] Dark brown ink on brown paper. An image of a young boy and girl in a library with many books open and on the floor. The young girl reaches up to pull down a book from the top shelf while the boy sits cross-legged on the floor reading. 12. [Bookplate for Montreal Library for Boys and Girls] Dark brown ink on light brown paper. An image of a young boy and girl in a library with many books open and on the floor. Hawes by Alfred Adlard] In black ink on white paper a large building is shown surrounded by a fence, smaller buildings, and trees. 14. [Bookplate for E. W. Neville by Marjorie Sankey] In black ink on yellow/brown paper. The elaborate façade of a building is held up by a large tree with many roots. The owner’s name is featured in the gate entrance. The thick paper features chain and laid lines. 15. [Bookplate for John Eardley Wilmot] In black ink. A marshalling of 12, this bookplate incorporates several notable charges, including two sets of eagle heads, erased, a leg erased, three garbes, a stag salient with hounds in pursuit, a scythe, three bugle-horns, three maiden's busts, three crosses-crosslet, three mullets and a lion rampant. The escutcheon is surrounded by an ornate, foliage border in the Chippendale style. It is crowned with a peer helmet, set upon a vegetative backdrop. The mantling supports two straight wreathes, charged with a demi-eagle, holding an escalop in its beak (dexter) and a stag courant (sinister). Among the many heraldic armorials depicted, this bookplate includes several identifiable familial crests. The originator's descendants, include, from dexter chief to sinister base, the Wilmot family in armorial one, the Eardley family in armorial three and the Marrow family in armorial seven. The Wilmot family armorial displays a sable (black) background parted per fess, or (gold), with three escalops on the fess, situated between three eagle heads, erased, two over one. The Eardley family armorial is argent (silver), with a chevron, azure (blue), charged with three garbes (sheaves of corn) and in canton gules (red) a fret, or. The Marrow family armorial is azure, parted per fess, or, engrailed, situated between three maiden's busts, two over one. 16. [Bookplate for Frederick Starr] Small square woodblock print in four colours. In black, pink, red, and light khaki ink. Bookplate is sectioned into three, with the left and bottom sections with Japanese characters. Primary images featured are three Okame masks. 17. [Bookplate for Theodore A. Jackson by Franklin Bittner] The bookplate is printed in shiny, raised black ink. The image is a three-masted ship at sea above a compass rose. In the top left of the image is the illustrator’s copyright text, and below the image is text identifying the owner. 18. [Bookplate for Henri Rainville] This bookplate depicts a large, bespectacled rat, dressed in what appears to be eighteenth-century attire and displaying a prominent tail and whiskers. Facing away from the viewer, the rat is seated at a table in front of a window, through which the leaves of a tree can be seen. The rodent holds a quill pen and is poised to continue writing in a book that is propped open on the table with a second, closed volume. 19. [Bookplate for Kevin Michael Grace by Lou DuHamel] This bookplate has been created with black ink on white paper. The image featured is Odilon Redon's Araignée [Spider] (1887) from The Graphic Works of Odilon Redon: 209 Lithographs, Etchings, and Engravings (New York: Dover Publications, 1969). 20. [Bookplate for Kevin Michael Grace by Lou DuHamel] This bookplate has been created with black ink on white paper.
