Arms and monogram of Military Institute at centre. Name of donor typed at bottom. Corrected typo in name. 123. [Bookplate for Dalhousie University Library] Black and yellow ink on white paper. Eagle displayed on a yellow (or) field on shield. Crest is a unicorn in profile. Motto appears in a scroll above the unicorn. Text appears above and below crest. 124. [Bookplate for York University] Red ink of white paper. York University shield at centre. Text at top and bottom. The shield is charged with a leaved tudor rose, and has a chief charged with two lions passant guardant. 125. [Bookplate for Cariboo College] Black ink on white paper. Text at top and bottom. Geometrical star shape in centre. 126. [Bookplate] Black ink on blue paper. Very narrow double border surrounds text. Appears that originator name has been erased. 127. [Bookplate for Dezsgyessy Bottlik, Margit Bottlik, and J. E. Horvath] Black ink on light grey inked background. A woman looks at rose that she holds on her right hand. She is wearing a long dress with a black bodice and bouffant white sleeves. The skirt has a flower pattern and the underskirt is white with a bottom ruffle. She sits on a sofa covered with big cushions with different patterns. One of the cushions comes out of the image frame. There is a window behind the figure with plant on the sill. The text boxes above and below the image are adorned with garlands. The artist seal with the initials RS is on the lower left corner. 128. [Bookplate for Geoffrey Christian and Michael B. Kunze] This image portrays, in black ink, on white paper, three books, one open and two lying stacked on their sides in front of the open book. In front of the three books is a large black inkwell containing a quill. The inkwell sits upon a manuscript. The manuscript has a seal on it. The image is set on a black background, with a curved top. 129. [Bookplate for Bibliothek des Herzoglichen Appellationsgerichts zu Altenburg and Michael B. Kunze] The escutcheon is barry of ten pieces, sable (black) and or (gold), containing a vert (green) riband with an engrailed sinister edge. The shield is mounted within a crowned and tied-back coat. 130. [Bookplate for Dalhousie University Library] Black ink on white paper. Shield is supported by two dragons rampant. On the shield is an eagle displayed. Above the crown the crest is a unicorn couped in profile. Motto and other text below. 131. [Bookbinder's Ticket for G.A. Roedde Ltd.] Blue ink on white paper. Decorative border surrounds text. 132. [Bookplate for Mudie's Select Library] Black ink on yellow paper. Text surrounded by narrow, double, hexagonal border. Top has been slightly cut off. 133. [Bookplate for Ágoston Tamás-György and J. E. Horvath by K. M. S.] This bookplate uses some architectural features to create a grid with nine cells. The centre of the image has a panel with the ownership information. The top of this panel serves as the floor for two figures practicing fencing that are framed with an arch. This arch is supported on two square boxes at the top corners of the image. There is a flower vase on top and books inside each box. Similar boxes with apple branches mark the bottom corners. The spaces between these boxes are supported by columns that flank two sportive figures, a hockey player on the left and a hunter on the right. In the bottom central area a small row boat sits in water. 134. [Bookplate by M. Trinque] This bookplate includes both a pictorial image and a heraldic symbol. The image, in black ink, depicts three soldiers in the process of laying communications cable. One soldier holds the spool of cable, another cuts the cable with pliers, and the third soldier keeps a look-out, rifle on back. The heraldic symbol, in coloured ink, contains an escutcheon divided per fess by an engrailed line. The top half is a dark shade of azure, while the bottom half is a light shade of azure. The escutcheon includes a sinister bend of blue, white, and red, representing the French flag. From the dexter chief to the sinister base are three fleur-de-lis. On the top of the shield is a torch, possibly representing Operation Torch, the Allied invasion of French North Africa during World War II. On both the right and left sides of the shield are signal flags, providing more indication that this coat of arms belongs to a communications unit. The left flag is a small red square within a larger white square, and the right flag is the reverse. At the base of the shield is a ribbon containing four stars. Below the image, there is space for entering a name of ownership, but it has been left blank. 135. [Bookplate for R. W. Urwin by Diocese of Durham] At the top of this bookplate, above the text, is the arms of the bishopric of Durham. The escutcheon is azure (blue), and contains an or (gold) cross patonce. Each quadrant of the cross contains a lion rampant. On top of the shield is a bishop's mitre. As the Bishops of Durham were formerly princes of the Palatinate of Durham, this mitre has the unique distinction of also including a ducal coronet which provides for greater heraldic distinction. The bookplate is in letterpress with handwritten inserts. 136. [Bookplate for Gordon Elliott] In blue ink on white paper, text within a single blue line border. 137. [Bookplate for Edwin A. Dalrymple] This bookplate has both heraldic and pictorial qualities. Upon a heraldic crest are five mountains, in profile. Above the image is a banner, with Latin motto within. 138. [Bookplate for Charles S. Dixwell by G. M. McCall] This heraldic bookplate consists of a tilted escutcheon, argent (silver) divided per chevron, gules (red). Within the escutcheon are charges, two over one, of fleur-de-lis. A steel helmet, closed, situated en profile dexter(denoting an esquire rank), sits upon the escutcheon, with a stylized cross within. Sitting upon the helmet is a clenched paw (possibly lion) grasping a bird claw with four talons. The escutcheon is surrounded by mantling with banners both above and below, 'EX LIBRIS' in the above banner (along with a small fleur-de-lis dividing the two words). The lower banner has owner name and place within. Entire image is surrounded by an elaborate rectangle border, with fleur-de-lis at each corner. 139. [Bookplate for David Stewart Erskine] This bookplate consists of an escutcheon, quartered per cross, and contains an inescutcheon. The first quarter, azure (blue), contains three garbe, two over one. The second quarter is itself quartered per cross, first and fourth quarters, azure with an or (gold) riband and six cross crosslets fitchy sable (black) ; the second and third quarters are argent (silver), with a pale, sable. The third quarter of the escutcheon is also itself quartered per cross, first and fourth quarters, or, with a fess in checky (alternate squares of metal and fur), argent and azure ; the second and third quarters are azure, containing three garbe, two over one. The fourth quarter, argent, with six bars, gemelles (doubles), contains a lion rampant, sable and proper. The inescutcheon, gules (red) contains an eagle, displayed and proper, and a ray of sun issuing out of the dexter corner. Atop the escutcheon is the coronet of an earl, topped by a grated helmet (peer), dexter. Upon the helmet is a curved crest wreath and a dexter cubit arm holding a club. From either side of the crest flows elaborate mantling. The escutcheon is accompanied by two supporters. The dexter supporter is an ostrich, while the sinister supporter is a griffin. Below the escutcheon and the supporters is a banner containing the English motto. 140. [Bookplate for Caldwell] In black ink. This bookplate consists of an or (gold) escutcheon, containing three sable (black) piles arranged in chief, and four alternating wavy bars of gules (red) and vert (green). Each pile contains a roundlet. Each roundlet has wavy barry of seven pieces, plate (silver roundlet) and hurts (blue roundlet). The crest is a demi-lion rampant grasping a broken scimetar, all proper on a wreath.
