[Bookplate for Mechanics Institute of Montreal] Black ink. The seal of the Mechanics' Institute of Montreal is located in the upper portion of the bookplate with pre-printed lines for library information below. The seal contains an escutcheon quartered per saltire with argent (silver) and gules (red) backgrounds. The chief quarter features a train car, the sinister quarter a couped arm with hammer, the base quarter a lever and the dexter quarter a telescope. Though difficult to decipher, the seal appears to declare ; Knowledge is Power, in a framed ring at the fess point. 62. [Bookplate for Art Gallery of Toronto by Alexander Scott Carter] Blank ink on white paper. Border consists of a thin black line, then a thicker black line, then an alternating black and white dashed line, and finally a thin black line. Capitalized black font with the words separated by geometric dots surrounds a black square. The black square is decorated on the inside with floral motifs. There is a circle inside the square with black text and black borders. Inside the circle are some more floral motifs, as well as two shields. The top shield is divided per pale. The left hand side is quartered with alternating designs of 3 horizontal arrows and vertical triangles. On the right hand side, the top third features vertical stripes, while the bottom two thirds are charged with three black stars. The lower shield is divided in a similar way and has the same stars and stripe design on the right hand side. The left hand side has alternating designs of fish, waves, and lions passant. Between the two shields is a horizontal rectangular box with black text inside. At the bottom of the bookplate is another rectangle with a border decorated with a swirling black and white motif. There is also an inner black border, inside of which is more black text. 63. [Bookplate for Vancouver School of Theology Centre for the History of Biblical Interpretation] Blue ink on white paper. Pink text in rubber stamp ink. 64. [Bookplate for Charles Carroll] Bookplate consists of an escutcheon, in a scalloped chippendale style, charged with two lions rampant, between which is a sword. Escutcheon is charged with a straight wreath and an eagle with wings elevated. Cherub also stands beside the escutcheon. 65. [Bookplate for Canadian School of Missions] Bookplate design consists of a bible beneath a map of the world shaped as a heart. Bookplate text is contained within scroll beneath bible. Grape leaves and grapes pictured in background. Entire bookplate design encased in a frame. 66. [Bookplate for Karen Caussen] Bookplate design consists of a heraldry-inspired design: an escutcheon, charged with a sheep passant and three bees at chief. Above the escutcheon is a straight wreath charged with a beehive. Below escutcheon is a banner containing Latin motto. 67. [Bookplate for Charles Collier] Bookplate design consists of an escutcheon azure (blue), with a fess argent (silver), charged with three heraldric roses, two over one. Above the escutcheon is an esquire helmet, along with mantling. Above the helmet is a straight wreath, charged with a human figure holding a heraldric flower. Below the shield is a banner containing Latin motto. 68. [Bookplate for David Cleghorn Thomson] Bookplate design features a running stag and hound. 69. [Bookplate for Edward Brown Lees and Dorothy Livesey Lees] Bookplate design is circular, with an escutcheon divided per pale. Primary charges are a lion rampant and falcons. Above the shield is an esquire helmet and a straight wreath charged with another falcon. Circular banner surrounding escutcheon contains bookplate owner's names. 70. [Bookplate for N. L. Campbell] Bookplate features a building and its entrance way. 71. [Bookplate for E. May Craig] Bookplate features a tall ship sailing on rough seas. Design contained within border, with bookplate owner name at base. 72. [Bookplate for Nanticoke Mechanics' Institute] Bookplate format is text within a solid border. 73. [Bookplate for Nanticoke Public Library] Bookplate format is text within a solid border. 74. [Bookplate for National Gallery of Canada Library by Alfred H. Howard] Burgundy ink on cream paper. Three young boys respectively engaged in painting, drawing and sculpting are enclosed by a large circle, at the center of which lies an open book. The entire bookplate is surrounded by a multi-layered border. The artist's remarque is in the lower right hand corner of the border. 75. [Bookplate for R. D. Stuart] Consisting of a decorative border with the text of Swallowfield Farm sitting on a spear that is horizontal across the middle of the bookplate. 76. [Bookplate for Park Lending Library] Created in black ink on white paper. A simple border with a braided pattern frames the text. 77. [Bookplate for Paramount Sweets and Tea Room by F. A. C.] Created in black ink on white paper. The text is surrounded by a border composed of a two lines, one of which is straight while the other has fluted decorations. Three lines composed of little squares separate the business's name and contact information from the list of library regulations. These regulations are followed by a final decorative line. 78. [Bookplate by G. P. V. Akrigg] Created using black ink on white paper (glue painted on back). The image is of a desk facing a window with two panes (each divided into eight sections) opening onto a view of an inlet and three mountains. A totem pole is behind the sinister pane. Drawn curtains are on both the sinister and dexter sides of the window. Above the window is a ribbon inscribed with "ALL LEARNING BUT AN ART TO LIVE WELL." On the desk, from left to right, is a painter's palette with two paint brushes, an open book, a ruler, ink well, fountain pen, pencils, card catalogue drawer, index card, small closed book, and a bust of Shakespeare. Below the bust are inscribed the initials "G.P.V.A." 79. [Bookplate for J. W. Dunbar Moodie] Escutcheon divided per quarterly. Dexter chief and sinister base display three ships in full sail on azure (blue), below a tower over background gules (red). Sinister chief and dexter base display three arrow heads, argent (silver) on an azure base, with a hunting horn above a chevron, ermine. Above the escutcheon is a vizored helm with a naval coronet ; above that is a lion, passant guardant, holding a flag. The motto is inscribed in a scroll above the lion. 80. [Bookplate for Aubrey F. Roberts by Bank B. Gordon] Executed in brown ink on white paper, this bookplate depicts a picture frame in which stand several books with their spines facing outwards. In front of these is an open book leaning against a globe of the world. In the background of the frame is a stairway ascending a steep hill upon which is a heavily turreted castle and trees.
