[Bookplate for Margarete Voigt and Michael B. Kunze] In black ink, an image of a young grecian woman wearing a flowing, pleated gown. In her arms, she holds a vase into which pours water from a hole in a wall. The wall is elaborately decorated, and contains what appears to be the image of an owl in the lower left corner. A heavy and elaborate frame borders the entire image. 62. [Bookplate for National Gallery of Canada Library by Alfred H. Howard] Burgundy ink on cream paper. Three young boys respectively engaged in painting, drawing and sculpting are enclosed by a large circle, at the center of which lies an open book. The entire bookplate is surrounded by a multi-layered border. The artist's remarque is in the lower right hand corner of the border. 63. [Bookplate for National Prison Reform Association] In black ink on white paper. Image includes a rectangular decorative border in a repetitive pattern. Within the border all of the text is in a capitalized sans serif font, except the owner's name, which consists of upper and lower case letters in a serif font. 64. [Bookplate for Norman M. Keith by W. W. A.] This bookplate's design features a lakeside camping scene with mountains visible in the distance. It is framed by Scottish thistles. Above the scene are three logos representing the Royal Army Medical Corps, the University of Toronto, and Johns Hopkins University. A globe and stack of books are featured in the lower left corner and a small escutcheon of the University of Toronto sits at the bottom centre of the design. 65. [Bookplate for P. Gagnon] Black ink on cream paper. Crest features a beaver lying on a crest-wreath. There are maple leaf branches extending from both sides of the beaver. The beaver is surrounded by a half-circle border with the motto in black, capitalized sans-serif font written across the arc. The shield is divided per fess, with the top half being further divided per pale and the upper left hand portion is divided into three horizontal sections. The topmost left hand section is argent with sable dots charged with two fleurs-de-lis. The middle left hand section is argent with sable stripes charged with a lion passant. The bottom left hand section is argent with sable dots charged with three maple leaves connected at the stem. The upper right hand side is argent charged with two pieces of equipment, one atop the other, and a pair of scissors below. The equipment has a small curved bottom with two long, curving handles on top with a spike pointing through the lower end of the handles. Below the top half is a thin black banner with white capitalized sans-serif text. Below the banner is an image of a natural forest and coastal landscape with a ship with two tall masts in the water. On the coast, there are people, possible colonizers, interacting. A large cross has been erected on the coast on the right hand side of the image. The dexter supporter and sinister supporter are moose standing a curling ribbon with text in capitalized black sans-serif font. 66. [Bookplate for Phyllis Pearce] Executed with black ink on white paper, this bookplate depicts a swan with wings spread, as well as two small cygnets in the lower left corner. 67. [Bookplate for Rev. Pierre Beaumont] The bookplate is printed in black ink on cream paper, now discolored. One penciled notation in the lower left. 68. [Bookplate for Robert A. Harrison] Black ink on cream paper. Crest features a demi-lion rampant on the top part of a castle tower. The lion is wearing a crown and holding a floral wreath in its paws. There is a gentlemen and esquire’s helm surrounded by elaborately curling sable and argent mantling that extends out to each side and tapers down to the base of the bookplate. Shield is sable and charged with three demi-lions rampant, two over one. The lions are wearing crowns. The motto is below the shield printed in capitalized block white letters on a banner with curling ends. The bookplate owner’s name is printed in black, gothic sentence-case font at the bottom of the bookplate. 69. [Bookplate for Stanley Harrod by T. Z.] Black ink on white paper. Image has overall appearance of watercolour. There is text printed in sans serif capitalized black font in the top left and top right corners. The bookplate background is a multihued pale gray. The image depicts a street in Bruges. A stone church is in the background, with a tall, pointed tower. A lower part of the church is visible, with upper level balconies visible. The windows are decorated at the top with crosses. To the right of that part of the building is the roof of another building, also decorated with crosses at the uppermost part of the roof. A couple other towers are visible in the distance behind these buildings. At the forefront of the image is a dark bridge/archway. Through the archway are several trees in the church yard. The arch itself has a round decorative feature in the center. The left hand side of the arch is lighter, with two round stone towers extending up. The central part of the bridge/arch and the buildings on the right hand side are in shadow. The building on the right hand side is shorter and squarer, with a window by the top of the arch and a rounded door on the ground. There is shading in front of the archway that then lightens. In the lightened portion is printed capitalized, black text in serif font. In the bottom right corner are overlapping letters, a Z and a T. 70. [Bookplate for Thomas Philip Earl de Gray] This heraldic bookplate is elaborately engraved in Chippendale style. The escutcheon is counterchanged per fess, its primary quarterings (at top left and bottom right) consisting of a barry of six, argent (silver) and azure (blue). The quarter at mid-top is vert (green), divided per chevron, or (gold). The quarter is also charged with three stags statant, two over one. The top left quarter is argent (silver), with a saltier, azure. The quarter is also charged with a roundlet, argent. The bottom left quarter is a gyrony of eight pieces, or and sable (gold). The quarter at mid-bottom is argent, divided per fess, gules (red) with a fillet in the lower part, azure. The quarter is also charged with three rings, gules on both the upper and lower parts. The Chippendale escutcheon is surrounded by two detailed dragons, the dexter supporter with its tailed nowed. Above the escutcheon is a coronet of earl status, and below the shield with Latin motto within. The owner's name is surrounded with elaborate borderwork, in the same style of wreath surrounding the shield. 71. [Bookplate for University of British Columbia by Ladislas Kardos] Bookplate has an imposed skyline drawn against a gray background. The background, skyline and the text following is printed on an argent background with the UBC crest located in the lower dexter chief position of the bookplate with "The Library" printed below it. 72. [Bookplate for University of Cambridge Christ's College] Black ink on cream paper. Coat of arms is surrounded by text in ribbons. Shield is quartered. Three fleur de lis in the upper left and lower right corners. Three lions passant, guardant in upper right and lower left corners. 73. [Bookplate for W. Gordon Mills] In black ink on cream paper. This image depicts a nighttime scene with a single star in the sky and two evergreen trees silhouetted in front of a lake and mountains. Superimposed upon this landscape, a lyre sits next to a scroll which reads "Sonata Apassionata" (sic) and has notes from the score. The initial "M" is in the lower right hand corner as a possible signature. 74. [Bookplate for W. MacDonald MacKay] A man in a powdered wig sit in a library, looking out the window, with a book laid out on a table before him. The window is open and flowers and vines grow around its frame. A book at the lower right corner of the plate lists the date and possible initials of the artist:"Sept 1896" and "RJ." 75. [Bookplate for Walter Stevens Herrington] This bookplate's design features a distinct rectangular frame, with flora, particularly pine needles, pine cones and maple leaves, in the upper portion, an hour glass and scales in the lower corners and a book shelf along the bottom border. Within this decorated frame, an open book displays the originator's name, and below, many literary characters appear, including a mother and child, a crowned princess or queen and a winged fairy. 76. [Bookplate for William Brophy] In black ink on white or cream paper, the bookplate consists of an architectural, Egyptian-themed border with lotus flowers all around, a Sphinx in the lower right, and Egyptian wall art in the lower left. Below the school name and above the location is a monogram made of the letters CSV. Five fonts used for the text, with spaces for hand-written annotations naming the prize recipient. 77. [Bookplate for William Griffin and Florence Griffin by Leslie Victor Smith] Brown ink on cream paper. The bookplate has a perforated border with rounded corners. At the top left and right corners are flowers with four square petals and five leaves extending below. The floral decorations are quite simple, featuring only small lines. Between the two flowers is curling text in sentence case followed by five leaves with stems curling to the left and the tip of the leaves curling to the right. In the centre of the bookplate an open book. The book has enforced corners and a clasp on the cover. On the open left page is a griffin rampant on a crest-wreath. On the open right page is a cat sitting on a crest wreath. A link from a chain extends from the base of the book’s spine to attach to a sign with a thick white border. Atop a speckled background is capitalized and lower case font with stylized serif accents. Two links of chain are attached to this sign from below in the left and right corners. Between the chains are stylized curling, accents meeting in a decorative feature in the centre with a leaf extending downwards. Text is printed on the left and right hand side of the leaf. There is a handwritten note in pencil in the bottom right hand corner. 78. [Bookplate for William Morgan by J. F. McCardell] Pictorial bookplate. Surrounding the text is an ornate border with ivy vines and a crest. An angel and shield are at the centre of the crest. The shield has a chevron adorned with three bees. The rest of the shield is decorated with ploughs and a cross. An inscription surrounds the crest and reads: "Cantuariensis 1853 Sigillum Provincia." At the bottom of the crest is a ribbon with "libr, prov, aour" written on it. At the bottom right is "J.F. McCardelt, Delt." and on the bottom left is "Lake and East lith. Ch. Ch." 79. [Bookplate for William R. Ridell] Shield, argent (silver), charged with a chevron, gules (red), and three garb, aulned. Above the crest is a greyhound, rampant ; only top half of dog is visible behind a wreath of vert (green) and a second colour, unclear. Beneath the shield is a banner which ends in two tassels on either side, reading 'I hope to Share.' Box on lower left side for entering book number, unused. Tear at bottom right. 80. [Bookplate] In black ink. Escutcheon parted per base. Lower field, vert [Green]. Upper, three pine trees, couped, on a field, argent [White or Silver]. Atop the escutcheon, a helmut of a knight or a baronet, on top of which is a straight wreath, on which stands a cock, close.
