[Bookbinder's Ticket for Hector Bossang and Denis-Benjamin Papineau] An ovular ticket, black ink on green paper within a border. 2. [Bookplate for Basil Thomas Woodd by Benjamin Warwick] In black ink. This bookplate consists of an escutcheon, parted per pale. The first pale is parted per quarter. Quarters one and four, gules (red), are charged with three demi-Hercules, two over one. Quarters two and three, sable (black), are charged with gryphons rampant, segreant. The second pale is parted per quarter. Quarters one and four, or (gold), charged with a lion rampant, sable, on a chief, gules, in the middle part a fillet, dovetailed, argent (silver). Quarters two and three, azure (blue), are charged with a fleur-de-lis. The escutcheon is set upon a backdrop of concentric circles. The inner circle is decorated with vine-like patterns. Within the outer circle, the originator's Latin motto "non nobis" appears. Below the concentric circles, the creator's signature and address, Benjn. Warwick 124 Regent Street appear. Above the circle is a peer helmet, surrounded by vegetative mantling, and atop the helmet is a straight wreath charged with a demi-figure of Hercules. (Bernard Burke considers the Hercules figures to be woodmen holding a club over their right shoulders or savages, depending upon the source consulted). 3. [Bookplate for Benjamin Gott] In black ink. Escutcheon inside a garter on which is the Latin motto. Inescutcheon parted per bend, argent [white], charged with two roses on either side of a lion, passant ; coticed, argent, and charged with three tufts of ermine each, sable [black].Two layer bordure, countercharged, argent and sable. Above the escutcheon is a curved crest wreath on which is a demi-gryphon, displayed. 4. [Bookplate for C. J. S. Bacon] In black ink on white or cream paper, the bookplate consists of a decorative border surrounding black text. 5. [Bookplate for Charles Felix Aylwin] In black ink. Escutcheon parted per fess, barry nebuly of three, argent [white] and gules [red]. Three lions, rampant, sable [black], two over one. Above the escutcheon is mantling, on which sits a curved crest wreath and a paw, erased, sable, within a Mural crown proper. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the French motto. 6. [Bookplate for Edward Loveden] This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon, gules (red), with a bend, cottised vert (green) and sable (black). The escutcheon is charged with four sinister hands, roughly at centre chief, sinister, dexter, and centre base. Above the escutcheon is a straight wreath charged with a heraldic tiger, sejant (sitting position). 7. [Bookplate for Edward Steane] This bookplate, in black ink, consists of a straight crest wreath, on top of which is a rock and eagle, wings addorsed and elevated. Below the crest is a banner containing the Latin motto. The image is bordered by a single line frame. 8. [Bookplate for Edward Steane] This simple textual bookplate contains the originator's name in black ink, and also includes the location. Slight discolouration of text on surname. 9. [Bookplate for George E. Longley by Francis Adams Sc.] Black ink on white paper with cropped corners. The crest features an arm grasping a dagger. The blade of the dagger has pierced the head of a bearded man that resembles a lion head. The arm is atop a crest-wreath. The wreath sits on a flower with a round center and 5 petals. To strips extend out of the flower across the front and back of a ribbon, connecting to the top of the shield. The ribbon extends straight out with curling ends. The motto is printed on the ribbon in black, capitalized, serif font. Shield is ermine with a black bend. Bend charged with three cheetah heads. Underneath the shield, the bookplate owner’s name is printed in elaborate gothic block font. The first letter of each part of the name is outlined with a black border, while the remaining letters are printed in black. Swirling lines and dots embellish the text. Below the name, a location is printed in smaller, sentence case, black serif font. Underneath this text is another swirling line with several dots, to the right of which text is printed in capitalized block serif letters with black outlines. In the bottom left of the bookplate, the creator’s name is printed in small, black, sentence case, serif font. 10. [Bookplate for George Roe Lockwood] Black ink on white paper. The image depicts two figures in a living room or study. The young woman wears an off-the-shoulder dress with a shawl and is leaning toward the older male with a fan in hand. The older male sits with his feet tucked up in the chair and an open book in his lap. 11. [Bookplate for Gerald E. Hart by Edwin Cox & Co.] Multicoloured ink on cream paper. Leaves with three pointed leaves adorn the corner of a brick pattern background. The leaves and brick are a pale green. There is an elaborate image printed on top of the pale green pattern. The bricks form an arch shape in the top centre to surround an elaborate multicoloured, painted arch. The arch is brown, gold, and black with ‘X’ decorations and borders. The arch surrounds a multicolour stained glass window, at the forefront of which sits a monk writing in a book. The stained glass window features a central circular decoration with three red circular borders surrounding three yellow circles, in the center of which are yellow flowers with three petals and green accents. In the outer spaces between the circles are rounded triangular lined insertions. At the very center of the three circles is a three ringed circle. To the bottom left and right of the circle decoration are more teardrop shaped sections with tapered bottoms. They each features yellow flowers with stems. Below the right floral decoration are two more similarly shaped sections with a swirling ribbon in each atop a blue crosshatch background. The arch connects to a Romanesque pillar on either side. The arch connects to an elaborately decorated bench, which has a golden floral motif. A bearded monk sits on the bench in floor-length yellow robes. The monk faces the right, where there is a desk. The desk is decorated on the side with ‘X’ decorations. Atop the desk is an open book that the monk is writing on. Below the desk is a decorative bird with a long, curved neck and floral elements extending from its back. The bird is accented with gold. To the right of the bird, partly reaching up to the top of the desk, are two rolled up pieces of paper. The floor consists of two thin platforms with green accents. A smaller rectangle is below with a gold crosshatch pattern. Text in the style of medieval manuscripts is printed atop. The first letter of each word is more stylized and in red font ; the rest of the text is blue. A thin ledge extends from the bottom of that rectangle. It tapers down to a more narrow line with two small pointed feet at the left and right sides. In that small section is a repeating geometric pattern in gold on a brown background. Below the entire image is small, red, capitalized, sans-serif font. 12. [Bookplate for J. B. R. Dufresne] Black ink on green paper. A curving, vine-like border surrounds the title of the legal practice. A blank number line is printed below. 13. [Bookplate for Marcus Brown Westhead] In black ink on white paper, this bookplate consists of a shield quartered. First and fourth quarter, argent, two barrulets dancette sable, between three Saracens' heads couped at the shoulders proper, wreathed round the temples, of the first and second. Second and third quarter, azure, on a fesse argent, between three martlets in chief, and the Roman fasces erect surmounting two swords in saltire, and encircled by a chaplet in base or, three chess-rooks sable. Center inescutcheon, party per chevron or and azure, in chief a mullet of six points lies between two crosses pattée of the last, and in base the front elevation of a chapel argent, the whole being charged with a crescent for difference. First crest, on a wreath of the colors, within a fetterlock or, a Saracen's head couped proper, wreathed round the temples argent and sable. Second crest, on a wreath of the colours, a demi-eagle displayed with two heads azure, charged on the breast with the fasces, swords, and chaplet, as in the arms. The escutcheon is surrounded by mantling and below a banner bears the motto 'ORA ET LABORA.'. 14. [Bookplate for Maria Anna Grimaldi] This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon, or (gold), charged with three esquire helmets, sable (black), en profile at fess, and a lion passant below. Above the escutcheon is an esquire helmet, above which is a crest of an armoured arm embowed clutching a curtana, or a pointless sword of mercy. The escutcheon is surrounded by elaborate mantling, and the entire crest by a stylized border. Below the heraldic image is the Latin text. 15. [Bookplate for Nicholas Garry] Printed in black ink on off-white paper. In the centre is a family shield, decorated with with a chevron pattern in solid black and white ground with a spotted pattern. A ‘V’ shape in the centre of the shield intercepts and counterchanges the chevron colours. Above this is an extended arm in armor holding a circular disc that repeats the pattern on the shield. 16. [Bookplate for Rob. S. Atcheson] In black ink, this bookplate contains a rooster atop a horn, which is itself atop a straight wreath. The rooster is a common heraldic symbol that stands for vigilence. Above the rooster is a banner containing the latin motto. 17. [Bookplate for Robert A. Harrison] Black ink on cream paper. Crest features a demi-lion rampant on the top part of a castle tower. The lion is wearing a crown and holding a floral wreath in its paws. There is a gentlemen and esquire’s helm surrounded by elaborately curling sable and argent mantling that extends out to each side and tapers down to the base of the bookplate. Shield is sable and charged with three demi-lions rampant, two over one. The lions are wearing crowns. The motto is below the shield printed in capitalized block white letters on a banner with curling ends. The bookplate owner’s name is printed in black, gothic sentence-case font at the bottom of the bookplate. 18. [Bookplate for Thomas Aylwin] In black ink. Escutcheon parted per fess, barry nebuly of three, argent [white] and gules [red]. Three lions, rampant, sable [black], two over one. Above the escutcheon is mantling, on which sits a curved crest wreath and a paw, erased, sable, within a Mural crown proper. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the French motto. 19. [Bookplate for Union des Commis-Marchands] Text is printed in a numbered list, surrounded by a line border resembling chain. 20. [Bookplate for Vincent Stuckey] In black in, this bookplate consists of and escutcheon divided per pale. The dexter half is divided per bend sinister, or (gold), azure (blue) and dove-tailed, and charged with a lion, rampant and ermine with a tail queue fourché. At the dexter chief of the half is an azure canton charged with a mascle, or. The sinister half of the escutcheon is identical to the dexter, except that at it also contains a crescent at middle chief. The escutcheon is crested by a straight crest wreath and a demi-lion with tail queue fourché, ermine and charged with a mascle, azure.
