[Bookplate] In black ink. The escutcheon, argent (silver), is charged with a mullet, pierced, azure (blue), at the fess point, surrounded by three cross crosslets, fitched, gules (red), two over one. The shield itself is constructed from rococo scrolls and is surrounded by elaborate vegetative mantling, finishing in a pair of tassels. Above the escutcheon is a peer helmet, charged with a straight wreath, and a cubit arm, clutching a cross crosslet fitchy. Below the escutcheon is a banner displaying the originators Latin motto. 22. [Bookplate for William Dadley] In black ink. This bookplate consists of an escutcheon, argent (silver), with a chevron, or (gold), and three antlers, two over one, sable (black). The crest is an arm vambraced, embowed, grasping two lilies, upon a straight wreath. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the Latin motto. 23. [Bookplate for P Kelly] In black ink. This bookplate consists of an escutcheon, azure (blue), a tower triple towered with three crosses couped, two over one on the tower, supporters, two lioncels combatant. Vizored helm of an esquire or gentleman above the escutcheon, with mantling. Above the helm is a curved crest wreath topped with an unidentifiable beast with the head of a bird, front feet cloven, and hindquarters of a dog, statant. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the Latin motto. 24. [Bookplate for Sir Lawrence Palk by Ezekiel Abraham Ezekiel] In black ink: Sable, an argent eagle displayed, an argent bordure engrailed ; at the precise middle chief, the inesceutcheon of a baronet (argent, a hand gules) ; surmounted by a wreath of argent and sable, the crest a demi-globe or hemisphere ['semi-terrestrial globe of the northern hemisphere'], an eagle rousant, wings displayed and elevated ; motto on a ribbon below the shield. The bottom right corner of the bookplate was torn away and has been replaced with a light paper. 25. [Bookplate for Otto Braun and Michael B. Kunze by F. Nickel] In brown in on tan paper. Shield in upper left hand corner above which is mantling and a closed helmet in profile, indicating equires and gentlement. Three fusils vert on centre of shield. Bottom and right hand side of plate decorated with scales, compass and triangle. Artist's mark outside bottom right hand corner.`. 26. [Bookplate for Heinrich Teuscher by K. Kleindienst] In brown ink on cream coloured paper with visible chain and laid lines, a plane is pictured above an image of a building, all of which is surrounded by a floral border, architectural features, and a gardener with a bag. 27. [Bookplate for Rufus Hawtin Hathaway by J. E. MacDonald] Printed in black ink on cream-coloured paper. An interior scene depicts a robed and tonsured monk sitting in a study room. The monk is seated with his head resting in his right hand on the far side of a lectern that holds three open, vellum-bound manuscripts. Behind the monk, an open wooden cupboard is topped by a niche shelf with many closed, bound vellum manuscripts and a human skull. To the far left, there is a recessed bench seat at a diamond paned window containing several objects, including a crucifix, an hour glass, and another manuscript. The entire scene is framed by a border that contains the owner’s name and motto, as well as decorative vine-leaf scrollwork. 28. [Bookplate for James Hazen Hyde] The bookplate central image is of several interwoven banners with flowers and leaves hanging from them in three cascades. The owner was an enormous Francophone who lived around the turn of the 20th century. 29. [Bookplate for Reginald Hibbert Tupper] The crest is a dog with a flower in its mouth. Below the crest is a banner with the motto. 30. [Bookplate for Les Religieuses de Sœurs des Saints Noms de Jésus et Marie] The pre-formatted plate for awards is printed in black ink and multiple fonts, and filled in with a single hand. Above the text sits a cross entwined in daffodils with the motto of the religious order on scrolls above and below the cross, all encircled with a border. The text and insignia are enclosed in a thick, detailed decorative border. 31. [Bookplate for Bateman by Orlando Jewitt] This bookplate consists of an or (gold) escutcheon, on which are three etoile topped crescents, two over one. There is also an additional smaller crescent located at the precise middle chief of the escutcheon. According to heraldic symbolism, the crescent represents the second son. On top of the shield is a helmet in profile, beaver open. Atop the helmet is a curved crest wreath and another etoile topped crescent. The crest also includes a vol (set of wings), erect, and mantling which pours down the sides of the shield. Below the shield is a banner containing the Latin motto. The image and text are framed by a thin single line border. 32. [Bookplate for Edmund Smith Hopkins by E. Soucher] This bookplate features a pictorial design with flowers, books, and other miscellaneous items along with a quote from John Wilson, a Scottish author. 33. [Bookplate for Lloyd E. Roscoe] This bookplate is executed in brown ink on cream paper. The image depicted in the center of the bookplate is of thirteen books above which is a shelf holding a vase with flowers and an open book. A large, open window is placed above the shelf which looks out into a peaceful garden that contains trees and a sundial. The heading on the window contains the words "Ex-Libris." Surrounding the image is a thick border in which a ribbon circles around a leafy vine. The ribbon is imprinted with the phrase "A book is like a good friend ; my friends I would forever keep." 34. [Bookplate for J. H. Ainsworth by T. E.] This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon divided per pale. The gules (red) dexter of the shield contains a small crescent at precise middle chief, and three battle axes argent (silver), two over one. The battle axe is an ancient military weapon, and placed on a shield represents a mark of prowess. The argent sinister of the shield contains a gules canton at dexter chief. The canton contains a talbot's head, erased. The sinister side of the shield also contains a chevron, ermines (a fur represented by white spots on a black field). Atop the escutcheon is the helm, grated and in profile. The helm is topped by a straight crest wreath and an armored figure holding a battle axe in his dexter hand. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the latin motto. 35. [Bookplate for Thomas H. Smallman by F. Durrant] This heraldric bookplate consists of an escutcheon, gules (red), with a chevron, or (gold), charge dwith three falcons, addorsed and inverted, two over one. Above the escutcheon is an esquire helmet, charged with a straight wreath and a heraldric antelope.
