[Bookplate for Catholic Commercial Academy of Montreal, Wm Price, and U. E. Archambault by Geo. E. Desbarats] Black ink on white paper. The border of the bookplate comprises three layers: the outermost is an abstract floral motif on the four corners ; secondly is a geometric pattern of triangles ; the innermost layer is a plain line. Curlicues surround the words “Catholic” and “of Montreal.” The bookplate is a pre-printed form with space for the prize name, winner, year and date to be filled out. 2. [Bookbinder's Tickets] 1) In black ink on cream paper, the ticket consists of an escutcheon with an elaborate base, bearing the name, services, and location of the company. A diadem bears the crest of a Gryphon salient armed, gules, holding an escutcheon Argent, a garter, gules. The escutcheon is surrounded by smoke-like dark shading and the whole is surrounded by a thin black border. 2) In black ink on light blue or gray paper, the ticket consists of an elaborate coin or medallion with trefoils in the four corners, bearing the name and services of the company. An escutcheon in the center of the medallion bears the address of the business. The blunted corners of the ticket result in an octagonal shape. 3. [Bookplate for James Stevenson by H. Wilson] A Latin phrase is written on a banner at the top of the plate. Beneath it is a hand ascending from a heraldic silk wreath, holding a crown of leaves. While illustrated in a pictorial style, the image is reminiscent of the heraldic image of a dexter hand couped at the wrist, holding a crown of laurel or bay leaves. 4. [Bookplate for C. A. Walkinshaw] In black ink, an architectural border surrounds an image of a stylized Greco-roman figure sitting on a seat, reading a book, with others at his feet. There is also a bird and scroll imposed on the white space within the side of the seat. 5. [Bookplate for Richmond Library by Crown Printing Office] Black ink on tan paper. Text surrounded by thin border. 6. [Bookseller's Ticket for W. C. Chewett and Company] In black ink on white or yellow paper, the bookseller's ticket consists of a double border surrounding black text. 7. At the top of the bookplate is the family crest depicting a crowned owl (a pun on the pronunciation of the family name) and the motto "Vita Est Vigila." [Bookplate for Francis Marion Smith by Warren Stannard] The "crest" is the profile of a blacksmith from the waist up holding with outstretched arms a hammer and tongs is before an anvil. Below the blacksmith is the text Ex Libris on a ribbon. A laurel wreath acts as supporters for the shield. On the shield, a printing press appears on the dexter side ; a cube with human faces and bold letters appears on the sinister chief ; and an anatomical human heart appears on the middle base. At the base of the shield, and behind it, a burst appears. 18. [Bookplate for Hart House Library by J. E. H. MacDonald] Brown ink on tan paper. Plate divided into three sections. At the top, the University of Toronto shield sits to the left of the text. In the middle is a picture of Hart House as seen from above. At the bottom is the name of the donor. 19. [Bookplate for Laszlo Zilahi and J. E. Horvath] Green ink on white paper. Man tightening a bookpress. 20. [Bookplate] This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon, divided per cross. Quarters one and four are sable (black), charged with a dove holding an olive branch upon a mountain. Quarters two and three are or (gold). Supporting the escutcheon are two lions, positioned rampant queue-fourche. Above the escutcheon is a helmet, dexter, with grate closed, indicating a peer status. Upon the helmet, is a crown with another dove holding an olive branch, along with mantling.
