[Bookplate for John Jenkins D.D.] Black ink on white paper. The crest features a white lion passant reguardant with black spots standing on the top portion of a stone castle tower. The tower sits on a crest-wreath. The shield is divided per cross. Around the shield is a curling border with leafy adornments and spirals on the sides. The border is thicker on the left, right, and bottom portion. The border does not cover the entire shield ; there are gaps at the top left and right corners and at the center of the base. The top left and bottom right sections of the shield are identical. They have a black and white striped background and are charged with a white chevron decorated with black dots. They are also charged with three white fleur-de-lis, two over one around the chevron. The top right and bottom left sections of the shield are also identical. They have a white background with black dots and are charged with a black lion rampant reguardant. Below the shield, the motto is printed on a ribbon with leafy ends that match the shield’s decorative border. The motto is printed in capitalized, black, serif font. The bookplate owner’s name is printed underneath the motto in thin, sentence-case, black, cursive font. 22. [Bookplate for Lord Francis Gray by Daniel Lizars and William Home] This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon, gules (red), charged with a lion rampant, with an engrailed bordure, argent (silver). The shield is supported by a lion rampant guardant on each site. Above the shield is a crown denoting baron status, and directly above the crown is a crest of an anchor upon a straight wreath. Immediately below the shield is another crest, a swan, also upon a straight wreath. Extending out from the bottom of the shield are two banners, with bookplate test within. The bookplate is bordered by an elaborate leaf design. 23. [Bookplate for Macdonald College] Bookplate printed in black ink on white paper. A small coat of arms for Macdonald College appears above, with pre-printed lines containing a hand-written call number and date listed below in black ink. The word 'discarded' is stamped across the middle in blue ink. 24. [Bookplate for Marjorie Vivien Smith] A winged horse in flight among stars at night framed by a border with stars and planets is depicted. Bookplate still affixed to a portion of the book cover that has been cut out ; book is "The Voluntary worker in the social services. Report of a committee jointly set up by the National Council of Social Service and the National Institute for Social Work Training under the chairmanship of Geraldine M. Aves" (Beverly Hills, Calif., Sage Publications: 1969). 25. [Bookplate for National Prison Reform Association] In black ink on white paper. Image includes a rectangular decorative border in a repetitive pattern. Within the border all of the text is in a capitalized sans serif font, except the owner's name, which consists of upper and lower case letters in a serif font. 26. [Bookplate for New Brunswick Legislative Library] A slim rectangular border surrounds floral mantling. The mantling surrounds a shield with a lymphad over water on a chief, with a lion passant guardant over a background gules (red). Above the shield is a crown. 27. [Bookplate for P. I. P. Sherburne by Elvey] This bookplate, in black ink, consists of an escutcheon divided quarterly. The first and fourth quadrants, vert (green), are charged with an eagle, displayed. The second and third quadrants, argent (silver), are charged with a lion, rampant. Above the escutcheon is a straight crest wreath, topped by a unicorn's head, horned and couped. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the French motto. 28. [Bookplate for Sir Robert Peel] In black ink. Armorial bookplate. Argent (silver) three sheaves of as many arrows proper, banded gules (red). On a chief azure (blue) a bee volant, or (gold). Crest of a demi-lion rampant argent, gorged with a collar azure, charged with three bezants, holding between the paw a shuttle, or. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the Latin motto. 29. [Bookplate for United Service Club] This bookplate's design features a royal crown above a thistle, clovers, a rose, and two surrounding branches. 30. [Bookplate for William Charles de Meuron Wentworth-FitzWilliam by John Vinycomb] This bookplate consists of an escutcheon framed by a solid bordure. The escutcheon is divided quarterly ; first and fourth quadrants are lozengy, argent (silver) and gules (red) ; second and third quadrants are sable (black) with an or (gold) chevron, and three lion heads, two over one. The escutcheon is crested by a large earl's coronet. Above the coronet are two additional crests ; the dexter consists of a helm, sinister and grated, crowned by what appears to be a duke's coronet, and elaborate mantling ; the sinsister consists of a helm, dexter and grated, topped by a curved wreath, a gryphon passant, and elaborate mantling. The escutcheon and bordure are supported by a male "savage" on either side. In heraldry, the "savage" is a symbol of wildness and purity. Both figures are bearded and nude, except for a wreath of leaves to cover their middle section. Both figures hold a tree trunk. The dexter figure, who appears younger, holds the trunk with his right arm and it descends behind him. The sinister figure, who appears older, holds the trunk with his left arm and it descends in front of him. The escutcheon and the figures rest on a mantel, which is draped with a banner containing the Latin motto. From the mantel hang three medals ; the medal on the left represents the Order of the British Empire, the medal in the centre represents the Royal Victorian Order, and the medal on the right represents the Distinguished Service Order. 31.
