[Bookplate for Stanley Harrod] Sepia ink on cream paper. A sketched front of a sailboat with three large sails is at the top of the image. Ribbons swirls around the ship’s sails as if in the wind. The sailboat is emerging from a cloud-like section that extends out into other images. A rounded horizontal oval shape with large, round extensions at the top left and top right corners surround the other image. There is a thick, round border surrounding the shape. On the left side, a naked woman is leaning backwards onto a mythical creature with a human-like fish head and a coiling snake body. The creature is lying on the border, with wide eyes looking at the back of the woman. The woman was long hair in a ponytail and is looking downwards. Her right arm extends backwards towards the creature and, similarly, her right knee is bent. Her left leg extends out to stand on part of the border. Behind her left foot, a piece of seaweed like foliage drapes off of the border. In the upper right hand corner are two naked women. One is holding onto the upper part of the border and looks down onto the other woman, who is reclining on the border. The woman on top appears to be a mythical creature with long, footless legs that twirl around the other woman and border. The woman has her hair in a ponytail. The woman on the bottom has darker hair and has her left knee bent, her right arm lying on the leg of the other woman, and her left arm raised in potential defense against the other woman. In the middle of the shape is a head portrait of Leonardo da Vinci as an old man. He is bald on top with long white hair and a long white beard. Underneath his beard, the name Leonardo is written in fine, sentence case cursive. Extending from behind Leonardo’s beard are paint brushes and other artist’s tools, crisscrossed. Below the image is a small circle, text written in larger, sentence case cursive, another small circle, and more text in the same font. 2. [Bookbinder's Tickets] 1) In black ink on cream paper, the ticket consists of an escutcheon with an elaborate base, bearing the name, services, and location of the company. A diadem bears the crest of a Gryphon salient armed, gules, holding an escutcheon Argent, a garter, gules. The escutcheon is surrounded by smoke-like dark shading and the whole is surrounded by a thin black border. 2) In black ink on light blue or gray paper, the ticket consists of an elaborate coin or medallion with trefoils in the four corners, bearing the name and services of the company. An escutcheon in the center of the medallion bears the address of the business. The blunted corners of the ticket result in an octagonal shape. 3. [Bookplate for Lilian Guest Cape] Black ink on cream paper. A crest features a lion passant with a sword in its right paw standing on a torse. A motto is printed on a small ribbon in capitalized, sans serif, black font. Bolder capitalized, sans serif, black font is below the motto. A larger ribbon with elaborated curled ends features capitalized, serif, black fond. Many lines of text follow below in a roughly diamond shape. The text is printed in capitalized, bold, serif, black font. There one final ribbon at the bottom of the bookplate featuring the owner’s name in thinner, sans serif, black font. 4. [Bookplate for C. L. Bigelow by Geo. Bishop & Co.] In black ink on peach colored paper the bookplate consists of an ornate four-level border surrounding black text. The corners of the bookplate have been blunted, resulting in an octagonal shape. 5. [Bookplate for Henry Calder] A simple bookplate, with the name typed in a gothic font. The four corners of the bookplate are cut out in a scalloped shape. 6. [Bookplate for William Henderson] Black ink on white paper. Crest features a right hand extending straight out of crest-wreath. The hand clutches a black star fish by one tentacle. The shield is divided per pale with a chief that is also divided in two sections. The top left section is argent and charged with two black elaborate ermine/fleur-de-lis shapes on either side of a black crescent that is almost a full circle. The black crescent has a line in the middle dividing it into two smaller half-moon crescent shapes. The bottom right section is argent and charged with a larger version of the crescent shape. The top right corner is sable and charged with three white five-point stars. The bottom left section has a strip along the left edge of the shield that is argent with sable dots. Next to that is a sable section upon which overlaps three white triangles that extend horizontally from the central dividing line on the shield. Below the shield, there is a curling ribbon with shading on the ends. The motto is printed on the ribbon in capitalized, black, serif font. Below the ribbon is the bookplate owner’s name printed in larger, capitalized, black, serif font. 7. [Bookplate for Thomas B. Greening] Printed in black ink on cream paper. In the centre of the image, a heraldic shield is depicted. The shield is decorated by two thick intersecting lines with reversed scalloped edges, forming a cross shape. The lines are incised with a pattern of thin, close-set vertical lines and contrast against a solid background. Below the shield, a banner with chevron-ed edges contains the phrase ‘A TOUTE FORCE.’ Above the shield, the head and neck of a horse is shown in profile, facing left, with its mouth open and mane flowing. 8. [Bookplate for R. A. A. Jones] Black ink on white paper. The crest features an armoured arm extending straight out of a crest-wreath. The hand is clutching a spear with points on either end. Droplets are falling from the right spear point. The shield is black with a white chevron. The chevron has a thin white border along its top and bottom edges. The shield is charged with three white double-ended spears, the same style as that in the crest, two over one. The spears have a more elaborate top tip with a line down the middle, with the bottom tip being a simple, undecorated triangle shape. Below the shield, the motto is printed in black, capitalized, serif font. The ribbon has curling ends that split into two with rounds on each end.
