[Bookplate for Stanley Harrod by S. Harrod] Black ink on white paper. The bookplate image is surrounded by a border consisting of wide ribbons at the top and bottom wrapped around twisted rope on the left and right sides. The rope ends are knotted with three beaded and then frayed ends extending on each end of the rope. The top ribbon has printed, black, stylized gothic font in sentence case. Some text is separated by clusters of four diamonds. Inside the border is an image depicting a frigate with two masts and large sails billowing in the wind. Ribbons extend form the top of the sails. A smaller sail on a smaller mast is at the front of the ship. The ship is in an ocean with several waves. The bottom ribbon is more elaborated curling than the top ribbon. It has printed, black, stylized font in sentence case, but is smaller in size. Below the ribbon to the left and right is thin, sans-serif, capitalized font. 2. [Bookplate for Mary Katharine Black and F. Black] This is a commercial, pictorial bookplate displaying, in vivid colours, an antiquated ship sailing over the horizon. The names of the originators have been hand written onto a banner above the ship. 3. [Bookplate for John Ker Davis] The main image is framed by a single black fillet and is bordered by two banners, one at the top and one at the bottom. The central image is of a two masted ship sailing towards the right of the picture. There are a number of clouds in the background and rolling waves below the ship. There are two people visible on board the ship, one is holding up a telescope also facing to the right. 4. [Bookplate for John Hamilton by Francis Adams Sc.] Black ink on cream paper. One motto is printed on a ribbon with ends that extend to two points at the top of the bookplate. Motto is printed in capitalized, serif block letters. Below that motto is a crest featuring a leafy tree growing out of a crown. The crown’s points are rounded and leafy. The base of the crown is decorated with horizontal diamonds. The tree trunk grows through a picture frame with a saw attached to the center. The free is growing through this frame/saw object and has extensive, dense foliage. The entire crest sits atop a twisted wreath. The shield has extended points to the top left and right and the bottom curls to a point. The shield is sable and argent, divided per quarterly. The top left and bottom right sections are sable and charged with three white flowers, two over one. The flowers have distinct round centers and five individual, separate petals. The top right and bottom left section are argent and charged with a Viking-style ship with three oars, a flag pointing to the left at the front and rear of the ship, and a tall mast. The sail is rolled up on the mast in a horizontal line. Four lines extend from the sail down to the ship. There is a flag at the top of the mast, with two lines extending down to the sail. Curlicue mantling decorates the shield from the base upwards. A second motto is printed on a ribbon with two pointed ends at the base of the shield. The text is printed in capitalized, serif, black font. The name of the bookplate owner is printed below this motto in thin, sentence case, cursive font. In the bottom right corner the name of the bookplate creator is printed in small, italicized, sentence case black font. 5. [Bookplate for M. J. Freie] Pictorial bookplate created with black ink on ivory paper. A clock tower is visible through a stone, oval, window. In the upper right and left corners are shields: On the left side is an or shield with a displayed double-headed bird ; on the chest of the bird is an argent shield with a vert fess. The shield on the right side is sable with a ship. In the bottom right corner is an owl perched atop books and in the left corner is a painter's pallet and brushes. 6. [Bookplate for Lyman Tower Sargent] This bookplate is executed in brown ink on white paper. In the background is a framed picture of a ship. There is also a globe and a range of books supported at each end by bookends of monks sitting and reading. In the foreground is an open book with a ink well and quill. 7. [Bookplate for W. E. Gale by George Kuthan] Printed in black and red ink on blue paper. The image includes a border in black ink surrounding the image of a ship in red ink and text in black ink. What appears to be a small letter 'K' in red ink is to the right of the ship. 8.
