[Bookplate for James Bruce MacKinnon] Black ink. A straight wreath is charged with a boar's head, erased, holding a deer's shank bone in its mouth. Below the boar's head waves a banner containing the MacKinnon family motto. 42. [Bookplate for John Somers by James Ross] This heraldric bookplate consists of an escutcheon, divided per quarter, with quarters one and four sable (black), with a chevron argent (silver), charged with three antlers, two over one. Quarters two and three are vert (green), with a dancette fess ermine. At the centre of the escutcheon is an inescutcheon, which is also divided quarterly and features charges of cross crosslet fitched and beasts. The escutcheon is supported by two lions rampant, each with a dancette collar. Above the escutcheon is a Baron coronet, and below the escutcheon is a banner with Latin motto within. This bookplate is similar to BP MUR ENG P S664a, which is presumably owned by the same individual after his rise to title. 43. [Bookplate for John Somers] This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon, divided per quarter, with quarters one and four sable (black), with a chevron argent (silver), charged with three antlers, two over one. [Bookplate for La Librairie Farley] Black ink on cream paper. A slim curving border houses the title, address, telephone number, and borrowing policy of the book store. 45. [Bookplate for Library of Diocesan Theological College] Black ink on cream paper. In the upper-portion rests the Library of Diocesan Theological College seal. Within the oval-shaped seal are two shields (one in front of the other) with an anchor on the front of the more forward shield. Above the shield is a Western-style mitre. On the perimeter of the seal is Latin phrasing. Directly under the seal is an information line, followed by the title of the library and location city in English text. At the very bottom are two additional unfilled information lines. 46. [Bookplate for Library of the Hamilton and Gore Mechanics’ Institute] Black ink on pale pinkish tan paper. Ornate curlicue border with circular corner designs. Multiple fonts are present. The library title is written in bold and non-bold capital letters, while the institute name is written in title case with gothic script. Separated by thin straight lines, the card number field is written in stylized bold font. The lending rules are written in serif font. 47. [Bookplate for Library of the Hamilton and Gore Mechanics’ Institute] Black ink on tan paper. Curlicue and straight-line border. Multiple fonts are present. The library title is written in bold and non-bold capital letters, with the institute name in sentence case gothic script. Separated by centered, thin straight lines, there is a left aligned field for class and a right aligned field for card number written in bold serif font. The lending rules are written in italicized serif font. 48. [Bookplate for Library of the Hamilton and Gore Mechanics’ Institute] Black ink on yellow paper. Ornate curlicue floral border. Multiple fonts are present. The library title is written in bold and non-bold capital letters. The name of the institute is written in title case with gothic script. Separated by thin straight lines, the card number field is written in bold, stylized font. The lending rules are written in italicized serif font. 49. [Bookplate for Lord Francis Gray by Daniel Lizars and William Home] This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon, gules (red), charged with a lion rampant, with an engrailed bordure, argent (silver). The shield is supported by a lion rampant guardant on each site. Above the shield is a crown denoting baron status, and directly above the crown is a crest of an anchor upon a straight wreath. Immediately below the shield is another crest, a swan, also upon a straight wreath. Extending out from the bottom of the shield are two banners, with bookplate test within. The bookplate is bordered by an elaborate leaf design. 50. [Bookplate for Macdonald College] Bookplate printed in black ink on white paper. A small coat of arms for Macdonald College appears above, with pre-printed lines containing a hand-written call number and date listed below in black ink. The word 'discarded' is stamped across the middle in blue ink. 51. [Bookplate for Marguerite H. Powter by Clare Victor Dwiggins] Black ink printed on yellow paper. A woman in fanciful dress leans over a cherubic figure who is holding an open book. Books are scattered on the floor, below which is the bookplate owner's name. The entire scene is framed by vines and flowers. 52. [Bookplate for Military Institute of Vancouver] Black ink on white paper. Thin border surrounds text. Arms and monogram of Military Institute at centre. Name of donor typed at bottom. Corrected typo in name. 53. [Bookplate for Phileas Vercheres de Boucherville] Black text on blue paper, with a brown discoloration on the left side. 54. [Bookplate for R. H. Nisbet] Black ink on cream paper. A boar passant on a straight wreath, beneath which flies a banner with the family motto and the individual's name. 55. [Bookplate for Richard Whitmore Norman] This simple heraldic bookplate consists of a straight wreath charged with a stag's head, erased. Above the charged wreath is a banner, with Latin motto within. 56. [Bookplate for Robert Edward Lord Petre] This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon, gules (red), with a simple bend, or (gold), charged with two escallop at dexter base and sinister chief. The escutcheon is charged with an inescutcheon at center, divided per cross. Quarter one is gules, with a simple bend, argent (silver), charged with six cross crosslet fitched. Quarter two is gules, charged with three lions. Quarter three is chequy, azure (blue) and argent. Quarter four is gules, charged with a lion rampant. Above the entire escutcheon is a coronet denoting the rank of baron, and supporting the escutcheon at dexter and sinister are two lions rampant reguardant. Beneath the escutcheon s a banner, with Latin motto within, and below motto the bookplate owner's name and title. Background of crest is azure. 57. [Bookplate for Sir George Frederick Samuel Robinson] This heraldic bookplate consists of a crest of a stag at gaze, which is upon a small version of a coronet of duke status. Surrounding the crest in a circular orientation is a garter of azure (blue), with French motto within. Surrounding the garter is a heraldic collar, with twelve roses (surrounded by circular garters with French motto within) at regular intervals. Upon the collar is a full version of a coronet of duke status, and immediately below the collar (as a pendant) is a rendering of the biblical event of St. George slaying the dragon. 58. [Bookplate for Stetson] In black ink, this bookplate contains an escutcheon, argent (silver), surrounded by a grape vine bordure. The escutcheon contains a scrape, azure (blue), and is charged with two gryphons, at dexter chief and sinister base. Above the escutcheon is a straight crest wreath and a demi-gryphon. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the Latin motto. 59. [Bookplate for Thomas Philip Earl de Gray] This heraldic bookplate is elaborately engraved in Chippendale style. The escutcheon is counterchanged per fess, its primary quarterings (at top left and bottom right) consisting of a barry of six, argent (silver) and azure (blue). The quarter at mid-top is vert (green), divided per chevron, or (gold). The quarter is also charged with three stags statant, two over one. The top left quarter is argent (silver), with a saltier, azure. The quarter is also charged with a roundlet, argent. The bottom left quarter is a gyrony of eight pieces, or and sable (gold). The quarter at mid-bottom is argent, divided per fess, gules (red) with a fillet in the lower part, azure. The quarter is also charged with three rings, gules on both the upper and lower parts. The Chippendale escutcheon is surrounded by two detailed dragons, the dexter supporter with its tailed nowed. Above the escutcheon is a coronet of earl status, and below the shield with Latin motto within. The owner's name is surrounded with elaborate borderwork, in the same style of wreath surrounding the shield. 60. [Bookplate for Vincent Massey and Alice Massey by Alexander Scott Carter] Black ink on white paper. This coat of arms is described in great detail by the Royal Heraldry Society of Canada (RHSC), in their 'Members' Roll of Arms,' under the entry for the Rt. Hon. Charles Vincent Massey. They write: 'The arms argent [silver], on a chevron sable [black] between three lozenges of the last, each charged with a fleur de lis of the first, three stags' heads erased or [gold] ; on a canton azure [blue], a representation of the crest of Canada as an honourable augmentation. The crest out of an antique crown or, a bull's head sable, armed gold, charged on the neck with a lozenge argent, thereon a fleur de lis also sable.'
