[Bookplate by Eiichi Hirose] A black outlined fan shaped segway, with the larger side facing upwards contains the central image of the bookplate. The central image is of a black tree sitting on the left with numerous green covered branches drooping downward. A blue Mt. Fuji sits in the background and numerous grey lines drawn amongst the two images suggest the presence of rain within the scene. 182. [Bookplate by Eiichi Hirose] A fan-shaped segway contains the central image of the bookplate with the larger side facing upwards. A black background with a yellow half-moon indicate that the image is set in the night. A blue image of Mt. Fuji is set to the right side of the image. A large cloud outlines Mt. Fuji. Two green tall trees with no obvious branches sit just to the left of the centre of the image and are outlined by the clouds. 183. [Bookplate for James R. Adams] A pictorial bookplate depicting two owls perched on a disordered pile of open and closed books in black ink on ivory paper (with glue on back). "EX-LIBRIS" is part of the image ; however, the name has been added using a commercial rubber stamp within a space deliberately left within a banner. 184. [Bookplate for Amelia Alexis Alvey by Eva Alvey Richards] This is a pictorial bookplate created using brown ink on thick ivory paper. A nude female, portrayed kneeling on a pedestal, gazing down at an open book. A lamp is in nude's right hand and a caduceus (symbolising medicine) is in her left hand. Hanging from the caduceus is a scroll of music with legible musical notation. Placed in front of the nude is a large open book with objects placed on the left page. These objects (from left to right) consist of: an empty retort (symbolising chemistry), a round beaker, a small closed book, a microscope (representing biology), a beaker, and a test tube. A ribbon is tucked in the right pages of the book and reads "Ex Libris." Another ribbon below the book reads "Amelia Alexis Alvey." At the front of the pedestal are four heraldic shields. From left to right are: An argent shield with a eagle displayed, tongue protruding. On the chest of the eagle is a quartered per cross shield with the first and the sinister base are argent and the sinister chief and dexter base are black. Behind the shield is a palm. The next shield is argent with a fleur-de-lis ; below this shield are two irises. The next shield is argent with a beaver on it, around the shield are maple leaves. The final shield is argent with an eagle displayed clutching in its dexter talon palm leaves and in its sinister talon three arrows. Below the shield is a single rose. 185. [Bookplate] Textual bookplate with black ink stamped on ivory paper. 186. [Bookplate for Archer Martin] Heraldic bookplate created with black ink on white paper. Within two circles is a Norman pointed azure shield with a white cross of Calvary rising from the precise middle base to the precise middle chief. A sun in its splendour is in the dexter chief and a decressant (half) moon is in the sinister chief. Below the shield is a banner reading "sic itur ad astra" [Thus going/departing to glory/immortality]. A closed helmet (usually indicative of an esquire or gentleman) facing sinister is crowned with a wreathe and leaves. At the top of the circles is a star with six points and at the bottom of the circles is a flower. 187. [Bookplate for Mary Katharine Black by Thoreau MacDonald] This pictorial engraving was created using black ink on white paper and portrays an island with two wind-swept trees with a rising/setting sun on the horizon. 188. [Bookplate for Joan Mary Bloxam] Pictorial bookplate created using black ink on thick, ivory paper. A single tree is portrayed within a thin border of two lines. 189. [Bookplate for Steve Borden by Larry Reynolds] This pictorial bookplate, created using black ink on white paper, portrays two thieves in front of a bookshelf. Above the bookshelf is a pendant reading "Kent" and in the right hand corner is the artist's signature. 190. [Bookplate for John Peter Braselmann] Pictorial bookplate created using black ink on white paper. The image portrays a scholar seated in front of a bookshelf, reading a large book. The border consists of open and closed books and two lit candles at the top right and left corners. 191. [Bookplate for John M. Cameron by Soderberg] Image is of a portrait shaped border composed of three black fillets surrounding alternating images, also flowing around the interior border, of thistles alternating between facing upwards and down. On the interior side of the frame of thistles are two more black fillets separating the frame of thistles from the central image of a large thistle and its leaves facing upwards. 192. [Bookplate for Charles Alan Crawley] The armorial begins with a bird (possibly a crane) facing dexter and armed with a small argent X. It stands on a small upraised mound separated from the top of a healm by a wreath. The helm is closed and also facing to the dexter. It stands above an ermine shield. The shield begins with an ermine chief with a bend across it holding three comets. The dexter chief and sinister chief positions are occupied by marlets. The honor point has two cranes, one at the dexter and one at the sinister points. The fess point is covered with an argent banner with a pair of crosses at the sinister and dexter point and an argent X at the center point. The base of the shield has a crane in the center point. Below the shield is a banner with the latin motto: "ESSE QUAM VIDERI". This translates to mean: "To be rather than to seem." 193. [Bookplate for Ivan Glen Campbell] The central image is a portrait shaped frame with banners along the top and bottom of the frame. Between the banners and contained by the frame is the central image of an open book behind a metal lamp with a black shade shedding light onto the book and everything else in the image. In front of the lamp on the left side is an ink jar and spare nibs and on the right is an ashtray and smouldering cigarette with the smoke drifting upwards and surrounding the lamp and book from above. While the two banners have statements within them the lower one also has four maple leaves, 2 on the right, and 2 on the left. 194. [Bookplate for Arthur Coburn by L. J. R.] The image is of a man standing between two deciduous trees. The man has black hair and is wearing antique garments from the Italian Renaissance and white tights. He is also reading a large black book and has a small black leather belt and pouch. The whole image is surrounded by a double filleted black border. 195. [Bookplate for David L. G. Dryden] A yellow frame surrounds the central image. The central image is of a young man in medieval armour leading a white horse to the left of the image. The image is in a forest setting with several trees observable. Two notable trees are standing, one on the left, and one on the right side of the man providing a frame for the image. The entire scene is evocative of a Pre-Raphaelite painting. 196. [Bookplate for Frederick Epplen by F.] This pictorial bookplate (created with black ink on white paper) portrays in the foreground Chiron (a centaur) and his pupil Asclepius (the Greek god of healing who is here portrayed holding a caduceus) ; these two figures overlook the ocean, a ship, and a temple. 197. [Bookplate for Blythe Eagles by A. W.] Armorial bookplate created with black ink on white paper. In the precise middle chief is an eagle (created in a First Nations' design) clutching a fish. A purpure chevron with three dogwood flowers is also portrayed. Three university shields are featured: University of Toronto (dexter chief), Yale University (sinister chief), University of British Columbia (nombril point). Below the University of British Columbia's crest are two aulns (single pieces of wheat). 198. [Bookplate for Linnu Eerme by A. Lee] In black and brown ink, an image of two birds, flowers, trees, and a bird feeder are portrayed on ivory paper. 199. [Bookplate for Hans Hjordis Hygen by E. B.] The bookplate's central image is done in relief of a house with a walkway and trees of to the sides of the house. The house appears to be a prosperous house with two chimneys and several floors. A mountain with whitcaps sits in the background and several stars are seen above them. 200. [Bookplate for Lewis Harcourt] There are several black fillets separating the top and bottom banners from the central and side images present on the bookplate. The sidebars of the bookplate have vines trailing down the die. The central image is an armorial. The image begins with a peacock symbolizing renewal or resurrection standing on top of a coronet on top of a closed helm facing dexter. The helm surmounts a shield leaning from the dexter chief to the sinister base. Both the helm and the shield are surrounded by mantling on either sides. The shield is a gules field with two bars of or.
