[Bookplate for Robert A. Harrison] Black ink on cream paper. Crest features a demi-lion rampant on the top part of a castle tower. The lion is wearing a crown and holding a floral wreath in its paws. There is a gentlemen and esquire’s helm surrounded by elaborately curling sable and argent mantling that extends out to each side and tapers down to the base of the bookplate. Shield is sable and charged with three demi-lions rampant, two over one. The lions are wearing crowns. The motto is below the shield printed in capitalized block white letters on a banner with curling ends. The bookplate owner’s name is printed in black, gothic sentence-case font at the bottom of the bookplate. 2. [Bookplate by Eiichi Hirose] A ragged edge of a central image is covered in a grey coloured wash. The central image is of a Japanese woman sitting and playing a traditional three stringed lute-type musical instrument. She is wearing a flowered Kimono and is facing to the right. 3. The woman is wearing a flowered kimono and is facing to the right. 4. [Bookplate for Edmond Bohy] This bookplate features brown ink on thick, coated paper. The image is of a man, mouth open, wearing a feathered fedora and a shirt with a broad collar [perhaps a jester collar] within a border consisting of dots and lines. 5. [Bookplate for Arthur Coburn by L. J. R.] The image is of a man standing between two deciduous trees. The man has black hair and is wearing antique garments from the Italian Renaissance and white tights. He is also reading a large black book and has a small black leather belt and pouch. The whole image is surrounded by a double filleted black border. 6. [Bookplate for John Hurley] The central image is of a man facing to the left wearing 16th century Tudor clothing, shoes and haircut. He is carrying a tray with an inkwell and a feather pen standing upright from it. 7. [Bookplate for University of British Columbia] Picture of letter A (perhaps taken from a children's alphabet book) with a boy behind the letter on the dexter side. The boy is wearing overalls and a hat and is standing on a patch of grass. 8. [Bookplate for Herbert Spencer Stvdy] Woman is Mnemosyne, personification of memory in Greek mythology, or Vigilanza / Vigilantia wearing a loose gown and with hair tresses. Holding oil-lamp in her left hand, and closed book in her right hand. Flanking the right side of Vigilantia is an olive tree. Behind the torso of Vigilantia is a shelf of books, and behind her head is a landscape with a castle overlooking a lake, surrounded by mountains, and a cloudy sky. Ex Libris part of image. 9. [Bookplate for Victor Werheimstein and J. E. Horvath] Black ink on tan paper. A female figure wearing long hooded robe reads a book on an ornate stand. The figure stands infront of a woven fence with vegetation. This image is surranded by a decorated frame with the text on a wide ribbon at the bottom. 10. [Bookplate for Dezsgyessy Bottlik, Margit Bottlik, and J. E. Horvath] Black ink on light grey inked background. A woman looks at rose that she holds on her right hand. She is wearing a long dress with a black bodice and bouffant white sleeves. The skirt has a flower pattern and the underskirt is white with a bottom ruffle. She sits on a sofa covered with big cushions with different patterns. One of the cushions comes out of the image frame. There is a window behind the figure with plant on the sill. The text boxes above and below the image are adorned with garlands. The artist seal with the initials RS is on the lower left corner. 11. [Bookplate for Margarete Voigt and Michael B. Kunze] In black ink, an image of a young grecian woman wearing a flowing, pleated gown. In her arms, she holds a vase into which pours water from a hole in a wall. The wall is elaborately decorated, and contains what appears to be the image of an owl in the lower left corner. A heavy and elaborate frame borders the entire image. 12. [Bookplate for Ferdinand I Czar of Bulgaria] In black ink, this complex bookplate contains an escutcheon divided quarterly ; the first and fourth quadrants contain a lion, salient and crowned (it is unclear what colour these quadrants would be due to the printing process) ; the second quadrant, argent (silver) contains two pallets, likely sable (black), and a sable chief charged with two crowns, argent, possibly signifying eastern or celestial crowns ; and the third quadrant, argent, contains two manche facing one another, with arms and hands emerging, together holding a crown. At the fess point is an inescutcheon, which bears the coat of arms of Saxony ; barry of ten pieces, or (gold) and sable, with a garter (vert), floral invection on sinister side. The escutcheon is crested by a royal crown framed by a circular halo. The escutcheon is supported by two lions, wearing royal crowns, each also framed by a circular halo. From around the waist of each lion descends a collar which meets at the nombril point below the escutcheon ; from this point hangs the Grand Cross Of The Order Of Saint Cyril and Saint Methodius. At either side of the order is a banner containing the originator's designation. Above the crest and supporters are two sets of fleur-de-lis, two over one, signifying the House of Bourbon ; and an additional banner. 13. [Bookplate for G Wirthrich] In black ink. Decorated escutcheon is parted per fess. Top, gules (red), a man cut off at the hips, bearded, with a downturned arrow in his right hand, a club in his left, a rapier in his mouth, and wearing a rounded hat. Bottom, azure (blue), a battle-axe and a club crossed. Supporters, two gryphons combatant with arrowed tongues standing on stairs. Above the escutcheon is a ducal coronet. 14. [Bookplate for Norman H. Friedman by A. G. Racey] Brown ink on cream paper. A man is seated in a wing chair by the fire, wearing slippers and reading a book ; his face is not visible but his pipe pokes out from behind the chair. A fire is roaring in a brick fireplace behind him, with a bust labeled 'Kipling' on the mantelpiece ; the mantel is inscribed with the words 'Be a reader but not a book keeper' with initials below the quote that appear to read A.G.A. In the foreground, there are piles of books and manuscripts and a small dog. 15. [Bookplate for Glazebrook] Black ink on cream paper. Design has some heraldic features. At the top of the bookplate is a banner featuring black, serif, capitalized font. The banner sits atop a stylized castle with multiple towers and a circular wall. Behind the castle to the left and right extend wing-like features. In front of the castle is a shield argent with sable dots charged with a sable lion passant. Shield has a sable chief charged with three argent fleurs-des-lis. Armorial helm with mantling is topped with a sable demi-lion rampant wearing a crown atop a crest-wreath. The bottom of the bookplate features a rectangle designed to look like stylized wooden panels. It features large, capitalized, bold black serif font. The words are separated with floral decorations, each of a varying design. The first flower is found with six more pointed petals, a black centre, and two leaves. The second flower is smaller and rounder, but of similar design to the previous one also with two leaves. The last floral decoration looks like a maple leaf with a simple stem. 16. [Bookplate for William Greening and Cornelia Greening by A. N. Macdonald] Black ink on cream paper. Elaborately decorated frame surrounds three round images, two small ones atop a larger, oval one. The border has a shelf-like appearance with the top featuring a series of curling, heart-shaped decorations with a large, spiraling curlicue extending to the left and right. The very centre of the top element features a leaf-like decoration pointing upwards. The top half of the sides of the border features symmetrical leafy curlicue decorations that extend downwards with a pseudo-fleurs-de-lis to a line of elaborate floral decorations. The large oval image extends to the sides of the borders and below the oval are decorations on both the left and right sides. The left side features a tennis racket entwined in leafy decoration. The right side contains golf clubs in the same leafy decoration. Leafy decoration also surround the two small images inside the border, which are connected by two wrapping ribbons in the centre. The image on the left features an explorer holding a walking stick and wearing a hat looking out onto a nature landscape. The landscape includes water and a mountain topped with clouds. The image on the right contains a road curving to the right. The right side of the road features foliage, including several palm trees. The large, central image shows a house with some of its garden in the foreground. The forefront of the image is a simple lawn, followed by several small trees on the left with plants in barrels, a table, and several chairs on the right. Between the trees and chairs is a path leading further into the garden and towards the house. The house is quite large and has at least two stories and a sheltered porch. Towards the other end of the house and garden are taller trees. Below the images is a rectangular box with a border. The border consists of two thin white lines with a darker centre between them. The centre of the rectangle contains text written in capitalized serif font in varying sizes. Below the rectangle, the artist’s name and date of creation is written in small, sentence-case serif font. Handwritten note in pencil on the back. 17. [Bookplate for Dorothy Maclaren Hepton by William Walker Alexander] Brown ink on cream paper. A plain border with a thin brown outline on the outside and thick brown outline on the inside. The image in the center of the bookplate is surrounded by a decorative background. The background has brown dots overlaid with thin white leaves on a stem. The stems curl around the left and right sides of the image. The image in the center is surrounded by a border comprised of three petaled leaves. At the top, bottom, left, and right of the border are two crossed strips covering the leaves. A dark inner border separates the decorative leaves from the center image. The image itself depicts two women sitting in an ancient Grecian scene. There is a building with arches in the left background. Next to the building, right behind the women is a large, shaded column. The foregrounded woman is sitting on a platform. Behind her is a small bowl of flowers. The same flowers decorate her dark hair in a floral crown. She is wearing a flowing white dress with a jewelry band around her right arm, which is holding onto her knees. At her feet is a lyre perched against another ledge. Behind the lyre is a dark, three-legged vessel with smoke pouring from it. There are some bushes behind the vessel and a plain horizon with a dark landscape and a pale sky. To the left of the vessel is a woman either standing or on her knees ; her legs are blocked from view by the sitting woman. The woman is playing a wind instrument, potentially an aulos. Her hair is in a half bun and half down. The ribbons in her hair are also flowing behind her head. Curling ribbons extend from below the image’s bottom border. A thicker ribbon rolls out below the ribbon. The bookplate owner’s name is printed in capitalized, serif font. Each word in the owner’s name is printed on its own line, with each line becoming increasingly indented. Two daisy flowers on stems are printed to the left of the last word in the owner’s name. 18. [Bookplate for A. C. Jones by Clare Victor Dwiggins] Black ink on cream paper. The border of the bookplate consists of intertwined thorny and leafy vines with thicker leaves in the corners. The top left and right corners also feature rose-like flowers. Near the top of the border, vines extend from the left and right sides towards the center of the bookplate design. Capitalized, black, whimsical font is at the top of the bookplate. Dots surround some of the words and some letters are looping or intertwined. In the center of the bookplate, a tall, thin, beautiful woman in a whimsical fluted dress stands atop a closed book. The woman’s hair is done up and decorated with flowers. Flowers also decorate the top of the dress, the bottom of which features a spiral pattern. The dress is cinched at the waist with a belt and similarly cinched around the thighs with a large ribbon tied in a bow. The bottom of the dress extends outwards and there is a lacey layer underneath. The woman is wearing slip-on high heels with bows on the front. Next to the large book the woman is standing on are two books, one small one in front of the book sitting on its side. The other book is standing upright and is behind the large book. The woman is bending towards a small, naked cherub with a single curl atop its head and feathery wings. The cherub is standing in front of a book open and standing on its pages with the spine up. The cherub is also holding an open book and looking smilingly up at the woman. Behind the woman, the bookplate creator’s name is printed in curling, capitalized, black font. At the bottom of the bookplate, the owner’s name is printed in black, gothic, sentence case font. 19. [Bookplate for W. Carleill-Hall] Black ink on cream paper. Crest features a person’s head in profile facing the left. The person is wearing chain mail, but no helmet and is atop a crest-wreath. Below the crest-wreath is another crest with a gentlemen and esquire helm and elaborate black and white curling mantling extending out horizontally, as well as down the sides of the shield. The shield is divided per pale. The dexter side is argent with a sable chevron. It is charged with three black birds trussed, two over one. The chevron is charged with three white flowers with six petals and line decorations in the middle. The sinister side is sable and charged with three white demi-lions. At the base of the shield is a ribbon with a flat central base and ends that extend up like a V to the left and right. On that central base is printed, black, capitalized, sans serif text. Below the ribbon, the bookplate owner’s name is printed in black, sentence case, cursive text. 20. [Bookplate for William Swift Keyser] Black ink on cream paper. The crest features an esquire helm with elaborate mantling extending out along both sides of the bookplate. Extended, feathery wings rise out of the top of the helm. The helm sites directly on the shield, which is divided per pale and per rounded chevron. The three parts of the shield are different colour. The upper left portion is argent, the upper right side portion has vertical sable lines, and the rounded bottom portion has horizontal sable lines. Sitting atop the rounded bottom portion is a king. The man is sitting cross-legged and holds a sword in his left hand and a rounded vessel with a cross on top in his right hand. The man is wearing a crown and a cape. He has long hair and a small beard. Below the shield, the bookplate owner’s name is printed on a curling ribbon in capitalized, bold, serif font. Underneath the ribbon, text is printed in sentence case, thin, cursive font followed by a line of small black dots.
