[Bookplate by Owen Staples] In black ink on white paper, a clock is pictured in the top right corner (possibly a grandfather clock), and a table stands in the foreground. On the table there are several items: a framed portrait of a man, a few books, a vase holding some flowers, and a paint palette and some brushes. There is a lyre on either side of the name at the bottom. 2. [Bookplate for Barbara J. Marston by Suzanne Dodson] The bookplate pictures a young female backpacker in mountainous surroundings. 3. [Bookplate for Barbara Joyce Chandler] In dark blue ink on light blue paper. Primary bookplate design consists of a ship crested upon waves, with three figures within. The figures are young girls, two reading books and the other holding a book. Beneath the waves is bookplate text, with small illustrations of a castle, knight and fish. 4. [Bookplate for Baron de Hirsch Institute and Hebrew Benevolent Society] All printed markings in blue ink, all manuscript notes in black ink. Thin lines form a vertical rectangle with three vertically-stacked cells. The top cell contains the name of the library. The middle cell contains the seal of the institute: two concentric rings with the name and dates of the institute surrounding the inner circle, which contains a Star of David surrounding some Hebrew text. The seal has been inverted, so that it appears as white markings in a blue square. The bottom cell contains a space for presentation notes. [Bookplate for Baron de Hirsch Institute and Hebrew Benevolent Society] This bookplate is in two parts: One to show ownership by the library, the other to show who made the presentation of the book to the library. 1) In black ink on white or cream paper. The bookplate consists of lines for recording location information, the seal of the institute [two concentric rings with the name and dates of the institute surrounding the inner circle, which contains a Star of David surrounding some Hebrew text], and other lines for noting the number and receipt date of the book surrounding the library name. 2) In black ink on white or cream paper, the bookplate consists of a thin border surrounding black text. 7. [Bookplate for Cedric Newell] In this pictorial bookplate the illustration is of a young child dressed in trousers and suspenders sitting on a stone fence and holding three books. In the foreground are fox gloves and in the background are a field and a cottage surrounded by trees. 8. [Bookplate for Charles Fyfe by R. P.] Bookplate printed in black ink, with a purple/blue ink, rubber-stamped annotation. This ex-libris depicts a woman reading to a young boy on a park or garden bench. The idyllic landscape behind them features a lake with two swans swimming in it. Further in the distance is a forest with the silhouettes of two figures standing among the trees and large dramatic clounds sweeping by in the background. 9. [Bookplate for City of Halifax and Citizens’ Free Library] Black ink on cream paper. A coat of arms for the city of Halifax is printed in the upper-portion of the plate. Within this coat of arms stands a sailor on the left, with his hand placed on the crest containing a Belted Kingfisher on a grassy mound. Directly above the crest is a masoned Sable containing a sprig of mayflower. To the right is a fisherman holding a codfish by its head. Both figures and the crest are standing upon heraldic ribbon containing Latin phrasing within it. This portion is followed by the title of the library and three sections with horizontal dotted entries lines for entering the class, book, and accession number. In the lower right corner is a handwritten note in pencil. 10. [Bookplate for City of Halifax and Citizens’ Free Library] Black and blue ink on cream paper. A coat of arms for the city of Halifax is printed in the upper-portion of the plate in blue ink. Within this coat of arms stands a sailor on the left, with his hand placed on the crest containing a Belted Kingfisher on a grassy mound. Directly above the crest is a masoned Sable containing a sprig of mayflower. To the right is a fisherman holding a codfish by its head. Both figures and the crest are standing upon heraldic ribbon containing Latin phrasing within it. This portion is followed by the title of the library in Germanic lettering and the name of the town in cursive. 11. [Bookplate for Cornelia de Rozsnyayn-Prielle and J. E. Horvath] In red ink on brown paper, this bookplate presents us with a garden scene showing a young amorous couple coming down a pathway. In the background, we see a garden retreat, a fence and gate, and a water fountain. In the foreground is a bench, on which lie a lyre, an open book, a stem and flowers, and what appears to be a floral wreath or possibly a scarf. On the right are steps leading off the page on which sit a stone sphinx. 12. [Bookplate for Crease Clinic of Psychological Medicine] Black ink on white paper. British Columbia coat of arms at top. Text below. Other text in blue rubber stamp ink. 13. [Bookplate for David L. G. Dryden] A yellow frame surrounds the central image. The central image is of a young man in medieval armour leading a white horse to the left of the image. The image is in a forest setting with several trees observable. Two notable trees are standing, one on the left, and one on the right side of the man providing a frame for the image. The entire scene is evocative of a Pre-Raphaelite painting. 14. [Bookplate for Dorothy C. Heney by Clifford H. Brown] Black ink on buff paper. The image depicts a young girl holding hands with a book, pushing open the gates of Fairy Land, toward a castle in the background. Plate lines are visible around the bookplate image. Audet] Black ink on white paper. The shield is black at the top with an open book in the center and a fleur-de-lis on either side. The main part of the shield is charged with a lion rampant. Below the lion is a branch with three give-pointed leaves. The motto is printed on a banner below the shield in capitalized, black font. Underneath the motto is cursive black font in various sizes. 17. [Bookplate for Fritz Rohde and Michael B. Kunze] Black ink on tan paper. Shows a young man in 18th century dress bending over an open book. There is a second book between his knees. He stands on the text. 18. [Bookplate for George Roe Lockwood] Black ink on white paper. The image depicts two figures in a living room or study. The young woman wears an off-the-shoulder dress with a shawl and is leaning toward the older male with a fan in hand. The older male sits with his feet tucked up in the chair and an open book in his lap. 19. [Bookplate for Georgian Club and Michael B. Kunze by Beatrice J. Ennie] This image portrays, in black ink, on white paper, a young woman, clothed in Victorian fashion including headpiece. She is reading a book which is resting on the back of a chair. Upon the seat of the chair are two closed books. To the woman's left is a grandfather clock, and on the floor, at the base of the clock are two more closed books. The entire image, including the text, is bordered by a picture frame. 20. [Bookplate for Henry Lloyd] This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon, gules (red), with a bordure bezant (or, gold) engrailed. The shield is charged with a lion rampant, or. Above the escutcheon is a straight wreath, charged with a 'pelican in her piety' (a pelican feeding her young). Below the straight wreath hangs a banded scarf, as well as a garland of leaves, which hang about the escutcheon.
