NotesThe Québec City Passenger List 1865-1900 from Library and Archives Canada documents that it is possible that the owner of the bookplate, Jas [James] Christison, arrived in Canada via Montreal, Québec, at the age of 21 in 1896. The 1901 census records a James Christison still living in Montreal at the age of 26, which was created five years after the possible arrival of Christison in Canada and could still mean the records are referring to the same person as Christison would have been 26 in the 1901 census record if he arrived in Canada in 1896. 'Jas' may be a short form of the name 'James, ' which is derived from the same Hebrew name as Jacob. The Calvary Church referred to on the bookplate may be the Calvary Congregational Church established in 1877 in Westmount, Québec (a small suburban community in Montreal) on the west side of Guy Street between St. Antoine and Dorchester. Between 1896 and 1925 the church merged with other congregations. In 1961 it merged with Westmount Park United Church, which is still around today.
